Rating 3/5*. Perfectly readable thriller of sorts. Two women have been married to the same man, Titus. He is now dying in a hosptial and wants to make amends to his first wife, Rose. When Ingrid, his wife, can't get a hold of her on the phone, she travels out to her. Rose lives in an isolated cottage with no other company than a few rats she's trying to tame. When Ingrid accidentally kills one of Rose's "pets", events take an ugly turn. Ingrid ends up in a sound-isolated basement, entirely left ...more

Mitä tapahtuu, kun ihminen ahdistetaan äärimmilleen?

Titus Bruhn makaa kuolinvuoteellaan ja pyytää palvelusta. Hän haluaa ennen kuolemaansa tavata entisen vaimonsa, Rosen, ja nykyinen vaimo Ingrid lähtee viemään viestiä vastentahtoisesti. Rose elää lähes erakoituneena maalaismökissään, jossa hänen seuralaisinaan vilistävät puolikesyt rotat. Kun suuren rakkauden Roselta anastanut nainen yllättäen ilmestyy oven taa, suistuu Rose pahasti raiteiltaan.

My first thought when reading this book was that it reminded me a lot about the Norwegian author Karin Fossums book When the Devil Holds the Candle, which is in fact one of my all-time favorite books. That kind of ruined the experience for me at first, but the story turned out to be quite different than that of Karin Fossums. Although the story is a bit slow in the beginning, it ends up being quite capturing and I would say that it is a good read.
