It seems I'm the odd fish out regarding this book. My experience with it has been well far away from 3, 4 or 5 stars.

My problems were:

--The writing. I read this book and it left an unpleasant taste in my mouth. It reminded my of a bottle of sparkling wine left open too long. It's utterly flat and has a weird taste, no matter how good the wine was. And, believe me, this wasn't a good bottle to begin with.
Flat and didascalic are the only characteristics I could find. Uninteresting might be an oth
Anwyn Rose is a witch, not a gifted witch as her previous ancestors but a witch that does have one use to see the last minutes of a victims life. This gift has her working as a detective for the Preternatural Investigation Team. Her newest assignment with Detective Mike Malone has the makings of a rogue vampire. Her crush is Galen, a vampire and all leads are pointing to him. Will the killer turn out the man she wants?

I found myself at odds on who I want Anwyn with, I really liked the cockiness

Mon avis en Français

My English review

I was very intrigued by this novel when I read the summary and I was therefore curious to discover this new book by Roxanne Rhoads. I must say that I was quite surprised by the story itself, I was expecting a fairly typical urban fantasy novel, but it is quite different from that. The romance side has an essential place in the story, it is indeed what leads the plot and the investigation of our heroine.

Anwyn is a witch, member of a police that deals with para

Hex and the Single Witch is a tale about a single witch that finds herself caught in the middle of some supernatural murders where one side of her love triangle could be the murderer.

First let’s start off with the love triangle part. Anwyn the young and lovely witch has not one but two guys wanting her. I’m normally a sucker (no pun intended) for vampires but in this love triangle I was rooting for the human all the way. Where Galen the vamp didn’t do anything for me; I was fanning myse

Anwyn Rose is the supernatural liaison of the P.I.T. (Preternatural Investigation Team) Crew in Flint, MI. She is a witch with the ability to "read" a person by touching them; whether they are alive or dead. Her talent is being put to good use in Vehicle City where a string of murders is plaguing this dying city. It seems that Flint has a new vampire in town that is killing off women left and right but able to block himself from Anwyn's sight as she reads the victims.

To be honest this series totally reminds me of a mixture of the Anita Blake Series (Laurell K. Hamilton), Stella Mayweather Series (Camilla Chafer) and the Graveyard Queen Series (Amanda Stevens). You've got your love triangle between a human, a witch and a vampire and all of the amazing preternatural things happening around them in Vehicle City. I'm seriously loving this combination and looking forward to the rest of this series.

It does contain quite the ADULT content, but it works so well in

What first drew me to this book was the cover, it's gorgeous and had me wanting to read it without even knowing what the book was about, but after reading the synopsis I was sold and definitely wanted to give this book a go.
And I absolutely loved it, and I'm excited that it's part of a series and that we get to read even more about Anwyn, Mike and Galen and their world.

Wow!! What a great start to what I am sure will be a long pined after series!! Roxanne does a great job of creating "real" characters that you can relate to and become invested in. All of the characters are well developed and create a unique storyline that is mysterious and encompasses you to the last word! I absolutely love Anwyn (which means beautiful pure and fair). She is a well rounded character that you definitely route for all through the book. There is some heat to this novel so be ready ...more
The last in a long line of very powerful witches, Anwyn, unbelievably, can barely cast spells. She does the best she can by serving as the resident Other Liaison in the Preternatural Investigation Team, or PIT, as it is known to the Flint Area Other community. Now, with her limited powers failing her, she must hunt down an Other killer before any more women die.

One look at the book cover and I fully expected this book to be hot. Starting with the very first line... "Vampires strutted their stuff

I am probably the odd one out in this BUT I was rooting for the human in the vampire/human/female witch love triangle. He had more oomph to him than the vampire. Galen was made out to be intense and broody, but he was down right annoying.

I enjoyed that Anwyn, the witch, remained an adult about her love life. Too many heroine’s tend to revert to that insecure state where they question whether their love interests like them, why they are feeling what they’re feeling and etc. I call that “stuck in

This book has it all vampires, witches and others mixed in. The plot is unique and the characters are very interesting. Steamy romance scenes makes this a great book to read. I highly recommend this book.

I really liked this story. An interesting concept, like-able characters and storyline. It's just missing a small little...something. And that would have taken this book from "alright" to "amazing".

Interesting plot with a lot of twist. The characters are deep with complicate feelings and intriguing past. Too bad the book badly needs more than a few editings. Too many sentences are messed up and confusing and some passages need to be cleaned to be clearer. To add to my deception, this is only the begining of the story but the sequel is still unpublished. Though I'm not sure I would read the next book if it lack work as much as this one.

Anwyn Rose is a witch and a member of the Preternatural Investigation Team of Flint, Michigan. She is partnered with a steamy hunk of a man whose smarmy harassment seems to hide a delicious, Carmel-soft core and is tentatively sticking her toes into the supernatural dating realm with an emotionally damaged, possible dangerous, sex-on-a-stick vampire. Things regularly heat up. This is PNR, bordering on erotica. Yum

What I like about Anwyn and her situation is that she is an adult. While

What a fantastic new book for a series!! It's a fantastic way to mix both the old and the new. New world that is ok with using supernatural abilities to solve crimes, while keeping some of the more intimate details of the supernatural still hidden. It's definitely intriguing and a great start to a new series.

Anwyn is a likable character because she is cool and yet she has normal flaws. She's a little bit self conscious about herself, in a few ways, but who isn't? Yet, she's always willing to go

Detective Anwyn Rose was liaison for the preternatural division of the Flint Michigan police department and a witch with wonky powers. She was called out to read visions of the recently departed at crimes scenes. Since her dad was killed fifteen years ago in the uprising where vampires devoured her father when he was shot doing his job protecting citizens her mom had snapped and she mentally withdrew leaving her gram to raise her. She came from a long line of powerful witches, yet she couldn't c ...more

I was so excited to pick up this book! I’ve been on the look out for a paranormal thriller and this hit me at just the right time! Technically, it’s a paranormal romance, and, boy! Let me just tell you, it’s that too! In SPADES!! But the plot was what I was searching for, and Ms. Rhoads didn’t disappoint me here. At all!

I love the fact that Ms. Rhoads chose to write a mc who wasn’t really awesome. She’s a witch who has no super extraordinary gift. She can basically feel when things are right or

This book has great characters and a compelling story line. I liked the heroine, a sexy young witch working as a consultant to a special unit on the Flint, MI police force. The supporting cast, including two hunky love interests, one a vampire suspected as a serial killer and the other her detective boss, are interesting. The sexual tension in the first part of the book is both alluring and comical, as both males contend for the heroine’s sexual favors. Both the main story line and the back stor ...more

First I have to say I absolutely love the cover art for this book. It caught my attention right away. Though I know I'm not supposed to
"judge a book by it's cover" I often find myself turning away from boring covers and going for those that capture my interest more often than I should.

Hex and the Single Witch is Book 1 of the Vehicle City Vampires Series by author Rhoxanne Rhoads. In this book I was introduced to Anwyn Rose - absolutely love the name - who is a young witch with little power. I d

There is a love triangle in this book but this time it's not with a werewolf! It's between a witch, a human and a vampire. Annwyn spends the book going from one to the other, sometimes literally the same evening, all the while saying that she's not that sort of girl. This got a bit monotonous to be honest! There are other characters in this that help the story along. Mel is an awesome best friend, who can build you up as well as take no s**t.

To be honest, I'm struggling a bit with what to say ab
In the beginning I thought the book would be as atmospherical as "Dead Witch Walking" from the Hollows Series, but I was mistaken. The heroine, Anwyn, was a slut, trying to persuade us she is not. I don't have a problem if she was really one, but messing with the hearts of 2 men considering them both as her boyfriends and feeling jealous of them watching the threesomes, well... I was not convinced. As for the witch part, well, you and I could be more witches than her. (Ah yes, she was hexed, I f ...more

Hex and the Single Witch (Vehicle City Vampires #1) (Roxanne Rhoads)

Anwyn Rose is a witch ,but not very good witch, she has not quite mastered her powers yet. She is also a Detective on Flint’s (Michigan) Preternatural Investigation Team(P.I.T). She helps the police with their investigations with supernaturals. Her partner is flirty Mike Malone and they are investigating a murder. One of the main suspects is the gorgeous vampire Galen.

I was all caught up in the witch/cop/vampire mix. I kept pulling for the cop. But then the vamp would entrance me & I was torn. I must have the next installment. So glad this was referred to me. I really love the paranormal theme. Especially when there are witches in the mix. Cant wait to find out how powerful she becomes. I really like Mel also. Great Friend & powerful witch. Hex and the Single Witch is a steamy, compelling paranormal / Urban fantasy. I enjoyed the setting, cast of interesting characters and, of course, the heat level. The "world" Ms. Rhoads has created is one full of magic and Otherworldly creatures, which live along side the normal humans-- so someone has to bridge the divide and try to keep the peace by being part of an elite police unit. And that someone is a witch with limited abilities (or so it may seem), a saucy best friend and Magic-Tech-ner ...more

This was a wonderful paranormal story!! What's a girl to do when you have two sexy men after you and the city is going crazy with paranormal crime? That's what is going on in Anwyn Rose ' s life. She is a witch from a long line of witches and a detective with the paranormal crime unit. She has one gorgeous vampire who wants to date her and maybe have her for lunch. The detective she works with has a crush on her to add more problems to her life. Can things get more complicated? Oh yes it can wen ...more

I wish there was a way for me to give this book 3.5 stars, as right now I am wavering between a 4 for story and 3 for writing. As much as I enjoyed the story - and it was a fun story with witches, vampires, fae, and the start of an interesting back story of a 'Others' war that happened when the heroine was a child - I had serious issues with grammatical errors and loose writing. After a few times of coming across such things as 'shear' for 'sheer', 'taught' for 'taut', 'full proof' for 'fool pro ...more

Vampires, Witches and hunky police officers...what is not to like?! The synopsis caught my attention and I figured lets give this one a try. I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed this story. I started the book in hopes of getting sleepy and I had to turn off my Kindle to go to bed, it was hard. 5 minutes later I grabbed my Kindle and had to know what happened!

There was quite a bit of suspense and the story line moved along smoothly. Definitely kept me wanting to know what happened next. I am looking
