H/h work together and have had the hots for each other for years, they finally give in. Both love their rescue work and have difficult families. The book had plenty of sex but plot-wise was filled with holes, the villain was so over the top that it was creepy and hilarious at the same time. What I did like was the rescue missions and how these two didn't fight their feelings when it started getting all serious between them.

First Reads Review - High Passion by Vivian Arend

I'm slowly working my way through the various romance genres. So far I've done contemporary romance, paranormal romance (vampires, wizards, steampunk, angels, though not werewolves yet), romantic suspense, inspirational romance (blech), and now, thanks to this book, erotic romance. Because, while this leans much more contemporary romance, this book is all about the sex. Which is completely fine by me. It means that I was entertained throughout and was always eager to keep turning the pages. And probably because of that I was willing to forgive a plot that wasn't quite the all that it could have been.

The team that the two main characters, Devon and Alisha, are on is very solid, with fun characters (I really want a book starring Tripp but I doubt I'm going to be obliged with that...sigh) and they all work very well. The relationships that the characters have seems earned and organic, something that I had no problem believing completely. And the chemistry between Devon and Alisha is equally undeniable, and it was very fun to watch them give in and fall for each other through round after round of amazing sex.

Which was carefully rendered. Having read a few romance books now, I can say this one was definitely the most erotic, the most detailed, with scenes going on for pages and varying things up enough with location and practice. Things were fun and hot and the author actually lingered where I hoped she would. So hurrah for that, because that made this book something I would recommend and the reason I'll probably get the next book in the series, because wow, yes, I do want to see what Erin's kinks are.

The weak point of the book, however, was the plot. Not that the details of the rescues weren't well done, or that the relationship didn't evolve as it should have, but really the "bad guy" characters were a little too much obviously bad guys. There was no real question. Vincent comes off as a psychopath, as genuinely evil, and Alisha as rather naive for not kicking his ass herself on the numerous occasions when she has every reason to. I could understand her reluctance, but at the same time I wanted her to be doing something more than ignoring the situation. That she couldn't see he was very dangerous made her seem a little weaker than she otherwise came off as. I also didn't like Lana's character, who seemed to be a little too desperate right from the start.

But the plot was something I forgave because of the fun of the book, and while I might have preferred for things to be perhaps a little less melodramatic, it was engaging enough and got the characters to where they needed to be. And in the end it was a great book, something that I had a lot of fun with and that I would recommend. I'm quite glad that I won this one and hope to get more like it. Four out of five stars.

Oh my goodness! Vivian totally blew me away with this book! I was completely glued to the story. The book was very well-written, fast-paced, and action-packed and a whole bunch of other hyphenated words! I can’t tell you how many times I was on the edge of my seat just dying to know what happens next!

I love how Alisha and Devon are kindred spirits and the chemistry between them is off the charts. I love that Vivian creates strong female characters with courage and a no-nonsense attitude that I admire. There was so much going on in this book; corruption, sabotage, exciting rescues, sexy search and rescue workers and so, so much more! Even though I didn’t read the first book in the series, I wasn’t lost at all so this can easily be read as a standalone.

I’ve been a Vivian Arend fan for a while now and as I read this book, it amazed me to see how her writing style has developed over the years. She is a very talented writer and if you haven’t checked her out, you should!

I like the world that this series is set in, love the SAR and the rescues that they go on, it leads to some great drama.

I was actually glad that Alisha and Devon finally hooked up in this book, as I was getting tired of all the sniping they were doing. Once they just let themselves be these two were great together. I found it interesting that both of them had issues with their families and were hiding them. Alisha's was just plain crazy, I couldn't believe how things proceeded there and why her dad wouldn't listen to her. I knew things were going to be bad and that Devon would end up in the middle.

I was glad to see how things ended up, but worry that the events in this book will have longer reaching repercussions for the team.

Combining steamy heat and pulse pounding action, this second book in the Adrenaline Search and Rescue series treats us to the story of Devon and Alisha. Teammates with the Lifeline squad, they have long been at odds with each other, when in fact what they really feel has been waiting under the surface. Suddenly their feelings for each other explode and the passion between them is undeniable. The question is can they handle these intense feelings and still work together as a team?

This series by Vivian Arend is one of my favorites and this book was fabulous! I am so impressed with the research that Vivian does, taking one into the heart of what it is like to work for a search and rescue team - the emotions, the danger, the intensity of the whole rescue experience. The hero and heroine are attractive in descriptive appearance (naturally!) but also in character - both committed, caring individuals who excel at their careers and are willing to lay their lives on the line time and time again for strangers and for each other. It's no surprise that in this kind of intense environment a sexual attraction might flourish. The evolution of their relationship from combativeness to friendship to lovers is told in an engaging manner, keeping the reader hooked from the very first page. A suspenseful subplot with a former suitor of Alisha's adds tension and intensity to the story. Secondary characters are equally interesting and the dynamics of the team environment are well handled .

The love scenes between Devon and Alisha are steamy and well written. The dialogue between them shows their humor and their caring for each other once they realize that the animosity between them is really hiding their deeper feelings. The overall story is fun, intense and interesting to read. I sincerely hope that there will be more of these books planned as every one of the search and rescue series to date has been delightful to read. 5 fabulous stars!

I received a free copy of High Passion by Vivian Arend as a Goodreads first reader. I had never read any of her books and enjoyed her style. The sex scenes were sizzling, just weren't enough of them. The story was okay, I have no real issues or complaints, just kinda dull when the two main characters weren't together.

Love. I absolutely loved this book, page 1 through every page until I ended page 315. I thought I'd discovered a new top 20 favorite author, in Vivian Arend, while reading the Rocky Mountain House series's; but two thirds through Adrenaline Search & Resue series, I can easily say Vivian Arend is competing in my top 10 favorite authors of all times. After finishing High Passion, I will read anything (maybe even sci-fy😳) that this author writes;)
Alisha, just simply awesome. Devon, the way he was discripted and portrayed was incredible (in that too good to be true....but dear God please be true kinda way). Their story of coming together and falling in love was spectacular. The catalyst toward the story's adventure was shockingly unexpected. I was saddened for obvious reasons during the arch of the adventure. The conclusion, almost, made it all worth it (although I get the feeling book 3 High Seduction will help us understand why we had to be saddened to begin with).
The intro high adrenaline scene in this story was beyond anything that I've ever imagined. I was so impressed by that scene, the research/experiences/naturalness and writing of that rescue. I am one of the many who doesn't think about SAR people in my daily life, the first rescue in High Passion was INCREDIBLE. WOW.

This blurb came from the author’s website.

Put Vivian Arend’s name on something and watch me scramble to get my hands on it. I have been a fan of hers for years through several different series and settings. My only complaint is that I reach the end. I thoroughly enjoyed the first installment of her Adrenaline Search and Rescue series, High Risk. One of the things I enjoyed in High Risk was the interaction and tension between the Lifeline members so when I found out that book two, High Passion, was an inner team romance I was super excited. I am equally as happy to say that High Passion lived up to my excitement.

On the surface, Alisha and Devon seemed to be total opposites. One managed to charm everyone, joke about everything, and somehow juggle various short-term entertainments without leaving anyone upset. The other seemed to take everything seriously and outside of working led a solo lifestyle. Put them in the same room without a specific rescue and they rubbed each other the wrong way but on a mission or dealing with outsiders, they were an unstoppable team. Yet, as Arend let me see behind the outer layers, they ended up having more in common then their skill at climbing.

Alisha prided herself on her control and living life on her own terms. She left the rarified atmosphere of her family business and lifestyle because she wanted to be more than decoration. She was proud of her position as a member of Lifeline, an elite search and rescue team, because she earned that on her own without the influence of her father. Therefore, when her past showed up she tried to keep it as separate as possible from her present, even when things became more difficult. I liked that Arend included some flaws in Alisha’s otherwise strong exterior because they made her seem more human and approachable. Given her family I could see why she tended to remain private and put up walls. I do wonder what triggered her panic attack, unless it was the completely unexpected situation combined with her stress over her family. Regardless, it set the stage for so many other things to happen.

Devon also had some unexpected depths buried beneath his life-of-the-party façade. He was fiercely devoted to his job and teammates while harboring what seemed to be a one-sided attraction to Alisha. That attraction caused him to give her a little leeway, which provided the opportunity for them to actually get to know each other. Like Alisha, Devon dealt with a lack of familial understanding regarding his choice of profession, but unlike Alisha’s family they obviously loved and cared about him. His stubborn determination to make his own path certainly helped during his courtship of Alisha. I loved how he had so many different aspects to his personality.

While this story focuses on Devon and Alisha, Arend’s trademark ability to keep both the supporting cast and the overall world moving was evident. The competitive spirit seen in High Risk manifested between Devon and Alisha not to mention some other friendly rivalries. The same care and trust showed throughout the entire team was seen again in micro-detail between Devon and Alisha. With that as a backdrop, watching the extra intensity through smokin’ hot sexy times, tender moments, and times when both applied some tough love made their growing relationship standout.

I will admit that while I was reading High Passion, I thought that the external conflict was completely obvious and I was a little disappointed because I have come to expect more until I discovered that things were more complicated then they seemed. I have to admire Arend’s ability at misdirection because I was so fixated on two things that I think I missed some clues about the real reason. This does mean that I will have to go back and re-read to try to spot them which doesn’t bother me at all. I really should know better by now, tricksy authors.

Reading High Passion provided adventure, family drama, true friendships, and a very exciting and entertaining relationship between Devon, Alisha and their team. I loved visiting the Lifeline members again along with seeing accounts of their environment. I do not have any interest in climbing, but the area around Banff sounds like it is breathtakingly beautiful. Devon and Alisha were glorious to watch as they learned to trust and enjoy each other outside of their profession. Alisha also learned that the team had her back in many ways so she gained a much better family than the one that she left. I also liked how the entire team shared some solidarity at the end and grew closer because of the events of this story. With High Passion, Arend proved yet again why she is on my auto-buy and re-read list. In addition, after reading the excerpt from High Seduction I think Arend is raising the bar once again.

I give High Passion an A.

Alisha has worked hard to become an elite member of the Lifeline rescue team. She was raised in high society so becoming a climber, a member of the team, was hard work but she's found her passion. When family begins to pressure her to leave the team to come back to "real work" she realizes that she is where she needs to be. Devon has always enjoyed working with Alisha, especially since she drives him to be better. He can't deny his attraction and after a particularly hairy rescue, spending more time together means that he has a harder time hiding that attraction. Alisha doesn't mind having a little fun as long as it doesn't affect their working relationship. When accidents and close calls mean they are spending more time together their attraction turns in to something more. But with someone from Alisha's past causing problems can they find a balance between their feelings and protecting the team? Fun, sexy, read!

High Passion

WOW! This story has high adrenaline going on from the start of the book. This story is about Devon and Alisha. Alisha always thought Devon was annoying but didn't realize it was her attraction to him but wanting to keep things professional. Once these two finally gave in to their passion for each other, their relationship pretty much exploded. Then Alisha's past comes to taunt her as well as threatened her. When he doesn't get his way with Alisha, he escalates to more dangerous activities. The last straw was his kidnapping Devon. Alisha finally tells Devon she loves him after she almost loses him. Once her past is taken care of, they find their happily ever after. FANTASTIC job Vivian! I would recommend this book.

Devon and Alisha have good sexual chemistry but the plot was disappointing. The villain was ridiculous and the story became silly and tedious. It's a shame because Alisha was meant to be a total badass and yet I felt the story let her character down.

Quick & Dirty: Romance with a fair shake of intrigue and rescues.

Opening Sentence: Sweat slicked the curve of his biceps as his arms flexed above her.

The Review:

Contemporary romance books have to be in my top 2 styles of all romance. In part because I know the world immediately, there is no need for the author to spend pages describing a world full of smartphones, cars, planes or the value of technology. In fact, it is like coming home from a long day at the office, grabbing a hot chocolate, slipping on your favorite sweats and grabbing your nearest blanket for a relaxing afternoon. This book encapsulates all of the above.

I adored that on the surface we had two main characters that had obviously been sensing and struggling with their attraction to each other, and yet for their own reasons held off making a move to turn the friendship into more. For Alisha’s part she doesn’t want to be a number on Devon’s bedpost. While Devon was shot down early on by Alisha and is waiting for the right time. Thankfully, for all of us readers that time was High Passion.

And if you need a larger story to keep you involved and coming back, there are two other threads that are pulled together. One of the threads is both of the families of Alisha and Devon. Both in their own way are obstacles that are needed to be diverted, overpowered and in some cases just yelled at. And we get all of that in spades.

The other thread that is woven masterfully through this story is the intrigue of where donation money came from and who is the “secret” donor. This secret doesn’t last long but there are other “mysterious” occurrences happening around the search and rescue team. Admittedly, one of them was quite easy to spot, and no, I’m not going to spoil it here, but the how it was managed was something I didn’t see coming.

I’m sure you are all wondering about the romance portion of this book. I have one word for you, “Steamy.” Once Alisha and Devon decide to take their relationship to the next level, hold on to your seat because it is going to be a long and bumpy ride, but worth it in the end.

Some of you also might be wondering, can I jump into this book because it sounds amazing, even if I haven’t read High Risk? I’m here to tell you that I did and this could easily be a stand alone book. There is enough to get you invested, and nothing to prevent you from falling in love with Alisha and Devon or any of the other team members of Lifeline. I’m looking forward to reading Erin’s story in High Seduction in the near future.

Final thoughts, this book is wonderful and if you are looking for a contemporary romance with a splash of intrigue and great sex, then this is your book.

Notable Scene:

It might be evil, but it was a challenge. He sprang forward and stepped on the surface, shoving the roller to the right and spinning it. Alisha struggled to keep her balance, then lost the fight, toppling to the side with a wicked splash.

Becki turned from the other side, where she’d stepped on the platform. “Dirty pool, Devon, dirty pool.”

“Teamworks comes in all sorts of styles,” he taunted as Alisha swam back to the starting platform to try again.

The rest of the challenges passed with a great deal of splashing and shouting, and by the time they dragged themselves up on the deck at the far side, Devon hit the bell a half second behind Alisha.

Her brilliant smile was worth losing to see.

FTC Advisory: Berkley/Penguin provided me with a copy of High Passion. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

High Passion, Adrenaline Search & Rescue #2, by Vivian Arend
Grade: C +

“Well, in light of the fucking and what all that’s going on, I suppose we can use the dirty, dirty titles of boyfriend and girlfriend.”

“We need to confirm you’re not afraid of showers when they contain sexually excited me with men with an urgent need to ravish you.”

Alisha Bailey loves her job as a member of Lifeline, an elite search and rescue team and wants nothing more than to live her life her tiny Canadian town and help people and not deal with her wealthy family and their expectations. Because of her background Alisha has always kept her team members at arms length especially Devon Leblanc. After an unexpected event out on a rescue Devon finally starts to chip away at some of Alisha’s walls and soon they are finally giving in to their sexual attraction. Not everyone is happy these two finally got together and when accidents start happening no one is safe.

Devon Leblanc has fought his sexual attraction to Alisha Bailey for years and years so when she finally gives a little he takes his chance. Devon is shocked at not only the chemistry they have but how much he likes her and wants her around all the time. When a person from Alisha’s past comes back into her life, Devon is determined to fight for her and will do everything in his power to keep her safe and in his arms forever.

I loved the first half of this book and I actually couldn’t put it down but the second half of the book was a different story. I found myself bored and eagerly anticipating for the book to end. Where I loved Devon and Alisha at first they started to get on my nerves and things got dragged out for way too long. I found myself very disappointed since the book started off so wonderfully. The first half is very funny (I found myself laughing out loud) where the ending is much more serious and dark (with a little predictability thrown in).

This book is the second in a series but I had no problem jumping right in and getting a good feel for Devon, Alisha and the rest of the Lifeline team. Devon and Alisha have some smoking hot chemistry but their banter made the book for me along with some very steamy sex scenes. Like I mentioned before I liked these two but I found the book to be a little predictable and too dark. I felt that some of it could have been shorter just to speed things along and maybe my mind wouldn’t have wandered so much. I’m not sure if I’m going to continue with this series and mostly likely it will depend on whose book is up next and what the premise is.

Title: High Passion

Series: Adrenaline Search and Rescue bk 2

Author: Vivian Arend

Genre: Contemporary, Romantic Suspense

LIFELINE: an elite search-and-rescue squad based out of Banff, Alberta. Specializing in high-risk rescue missions, this team goes wherever the job takes them…

Alisha Bailey left a life of privilege for the dangerous but thrilling world of search and rescue. Denying the lure of attraction to her teammate is another sacrifice she’s made to prove to everyone—including her family— that she’s more than a pretty face or a business commodity. Since their training days, Devon Leblanc has used the competitive fire between them to hide his fascination with the petite beauty. When a natural disaster forces their rivalry aside, heated passion finally flares between them. Sexual pleasure slowly gives way to a new appreciation for each other’s skills—on the field and in the bedroom. But when unexplained accidents begin happening to the Lifeline team, their new found unity may be their only hope for survival…

Thoughts: Vivian Arend is one of the best authors writing today who with the press of few letters can take the most mundane words and turn them into something extraordinary.

In High Passion we get the story of teammates Alisha and Devon. Their love affair is off the charts HOT. There places where I had to fan myself it was so hot. When they make that transition from teammates and friends to lovers we get to see there is more to devil may care Devon than we thought. I do have to admit his back story is probably one of my favorites that I've read in recent books. The more I got to know him, the more I loved him.

We also get more of the SAR team and I have to admit this group is one of my favorites to read about. Not only is the relationship between Alisha and Devon off the charts, but what is happening in the team is great as well, and sets up so well for the next book. There was one small thing that bugged me but it wasn't enough to detract from the story. I can't wait to see what happens next with this team.

I loved the concept of this series when I read the first book, HIGH RISK, and of course it was hot as hell.  But I was anxiously awaiting to read about this couple.  Alisha and Devon were always bickering and you could just tell once they gave in to their desires they would sizzle.

And sizzle they did!  HIGH PASSION is full of adrenaline and chemistry.  Alisha and Devon were melting the pages (and me!) but also melting my heart.  This book was truly perfect!  Everything I wanted for them and from them.  The story kept me on my toes and turning the pages.

Alisha has a secret.  Who she is and where she comes from.  And that all catches up with her in HIGH PASSION.  She has to deal with her sense of inadequacy that her father always leaves her with because she's not living up to the society standards he wants for her.  Instead she's risking her life climbing and rescuing people, living in a small apartment in a small town.

Devon has decided it's time that he confronts the passion they've had between them.  It was long overdue.  Little did he know it's always been more than that.  Alisha challenges him to be better, and he's been rising to that challenge for years.  They both admire each other and drive each other forward.

I enjoyed the suspense element in this book.  It wasn't over the top but kept things interesting with just the right amount of romance and suspense.

HIGH PASSION was one of my recommended reads from what I read last month and I highly encourage you to take a look.  One of my favorite Vivian Arend books!

Favorite Quote:

"I'm seeing stars." Devon chuckled. "I left the stars a few hundred miles back.  I'm into the outer reaches of the galaxy already."

This review first appeared at Dear Author.

Dear Ms. Arend,

I meant to read the first book in this series, High Risk, but unfortunately, Mt. TBR defeated me. When I was offered High Passion to review, I checked with you to make sure it could be read as a stand-alone and once the answer was yes, I was happy to accept. I like the concept of a romantic suspense set in a Search and Rescue (SAR) team in Canada and friends to lovers is a favourite trope of mine.

high passion e1360121498455The romance in this book worked really well for me and the sex was inventive and hot. As I read mainly for the romance, this was a good thing. Because the suspense wasn’t as strong. Toward the end, I was rolling my eyes a little because the villain seemed so over the top and his reasoning seemed thin.

Alisha Bailey and Devon LeBlanc went to the same SAR school and were chosen to join Lifeline after graduation. They have had a strong rivalry and are deeply competitive. Alisha has always thought Devon was hot but he has a manwhore reputation (mostly a myth) and that was enough for her to be able to keep her distance. Devon, for his part, has been biding his time, waiting for the opportunity to test the chemistry between them. In fact, their connection is so obvious to the other members of the SAR team that there is a betting pool going on just how long it will take for them to finally give in.

Alisha comes from a wealthy family who believe that what she is currently doing (and has been doing for 4 years) is frivolous and useless and expect her to return to Toronto to take up a position in the family business and stop wasting time. Despite Alisha repeatedly stating that she has no intention of ever doing so, her father continues to ignore her wishes. Because the family is so wealthy and prominent, Alisha has kept details about them close to her chest – she doesn’t want anyone thinking she’s in the position she’s in for any reason other than her competence.

4.25 Stars!

This book is so good, it is the second in this series about a search and rescue team and it just gets better with each story. I love the characters here and this book has much more suspense then the first one, which makes the pace faster and more intense.

Alisha Bailey has been a member of Lifeline for over two years, she feels so close to the team and loves her job. She hates when her father belittles her career path as he expects her to come home after her experiment, to work for the family business. She comes from wealth, but does not have much to do with her family anymore.

Devon and Alisha have been teammates from the beginning and have danced around their attraction the whole time. On a rescue mission, she panics and Devon is worried, she talks him into keeping her secret if she can prove it was a fluke and nothing to worry about. As they spend more time together, they finally act on their attraction.

Vincent Monreal is a family friend of Alisha's who shows up in Banff, he claims he is worried about her father and the business. He wants her to marry him, sign over her shares so he can take over the business. She says no in many different ways, however he seems a bit crazy, stalkerish and threatens her several times.

Devon, Alisha and the team deal with several rescues and an ongoing threat, as two members are poisoned and another has a life threatening fall that is caused by faulty equipment, they must find out who is causing havoc as the danger gets more intense.

What a great addition to this series, I enjoyed this one!

I was hesitant of reading this book, since the first in the series for me was not an "I love" this book, I should know by now not to judge a series by its first book.
This books had everything: romance, sexiness, action, long lasting friendships, family drama, and even a stalker.
I'm not big on suspense, and even less when I can figure out what how things are going to pan out. But I have to say there were a few times in this book I was pleasantly surprised by the turn of events or the actions taken specially by Alisha.

This story is about two people that have been dancing around each other for years now, finally acting on that attraction.
Two people that for years with their competitiveness have been pushing each other to be the best at their jobs, and how that shaped their relationship up to this point, and how it affected their relationship moving forward.

So I love how Vivian writes, she takes the characters in a journey, a journey of discovery and love. I like how she writes intelligent characters that are not afraid to speak up and fight for what they want. Alisha and Devon each are at the top of their game, both bring out the best of the other, be it at work or in private.
And in this case the bad guys well they are obnoxious and not too intelligent. And is good to show that at least Alisha didn't fall for the machinations even though Devon did let him get the best of him. (shakes head really he should have known better.)

Now the reason I didn't give this story 5 stars is because there are a few subplots that feel like they were left unresolved or just stringed along into nothingness.

Great coworkers falling in love story. Loved it

Alisha and Devon both have family that think they should quit playing in the mountains and go back home to take there place in society. They are the best at what they do and have no intention of quitting. Suddenly, Alisha has a family friend stalking her and demanding she marry him so he can have control of her stock in the family business and then he could take over from her father. What will happen when he starts really messing with her life and threatening her and the team and one of the team is hurt? How many others get hurt before he can be stopped? Will the team be behind her or will they leave her to deal with it on her own?

I was kindly given this book. Original review for old version from years ago missing.
Fun to see Alisha and Devon finally get it together.
Alisha seems to have it all together, except she ends up coming across as weak in her thinking. She’s unable to see what is right in front of her face and doesn’t even make enquiries as to what is the truth in regards to her family situation.
Yes, I understand she has distanced herself, or so she believes, but her constant contact makes this an untruth.
But I’m not sure why this strong and capable SAR Leader was so weak with Vincent. She should have told him to get lost, family deal or not.
The way she left Devon as she did, to have dinner with Vincent because he commanded it, annoyed me strongly. Especially as one strongly suspects Vincent of being a manipulator from what he says.
Devon was truly likeable and I loved him from start to finish.
So ridiculous that his family didn’t appreciate the amazing speciality of his job and the risks he took to save lives.
I just felt the sex scenes were too prolific at times and overpowered the story, taking away from the characters, the settings and the rescue scenes.
I really cannot stand the way Alisha caves to Vincent's demands.
She goes from someone to admire to a weak woman in 5 seconds flat.
I understand she is emotionally stressed due to Xavier but to meet Vincent on her own. Stupid. Where are her brains at?
Pity she didn’t record the threatening conversation.
I found the ending strangely unsatisfying due to the many ridiculous actions that take place.

I was given High Passion for and honest review by Manic Readers

Devon Leblanc has lusted after his team mate Alisha since search and rescue school. But now he is tired of hiding his lust and is ready to go for it. But now a man from her past is hanging around and team mates are being hospitalized.

Alisha Bailey was a poor little rich girl her wanted to make a life for herself on her own and she is happy with the life she has created for herself. She just wishes she could get past lusting after her team mate Devon, last thing she wants is to be another notch in his bedpost. Then her past shows up at her door and her team mates are ending up in the hospital.

What else can go wrong before Alisha and Devon find their happy ending?

High Passion is ok, I am kind of bummed because I expected better from this author. The characters are great and I can really connect with them but the story itself just isn’t doing it for me, I find myself looking for something else to read. I have never had this problem with Vivian Arend’s work before so writing this review is difficult for me.

I received this book as a First-Reads winner. I loved this book! The characters are great. Alisha is a strong, driven, independent woman who has made a life for herself away from her family and the family business. She loves her job as part of a very tight knit Lifeline search & rescue team. Her team partner, that she also went to SAR school with, is Devon. For years they have been fighting an attraction toward each other. The interaction between the two is steamy, funny, tender, sarcastic, and light-hearted. As they spend more time together through work & training they are having a harder time trying to ignore the attraction. Just as their relationship begins to heat up, someone from Alisha's past shows up to cause trouble. There have also been some things happening with the Lifeline team which only complicate matters. I enjoyed the relationship that developed between the main characters & how they stuck together even through the difficult times. As I expected, this book has SUPER HOT love scenes, tender & a bit naughty! I LOVE Vivian Arend's novels!!! This is certainly a must read!

WOW!! Vivian hit it big!!!! Alisha loved Lifeline and also Devon. He didn't know this because they fought and were alway challenging each other to see who could do it better or faster. Alisha has a pass life that she didn't want people to know and that was her father rich and owned his own company. Her and her family didn't get along.
Then there was Vincent who was wanting to take over Alisha fathers company and the only way to do that was to marry her. Which by the way she didn't want anything to do with him. He kept pushing and trying to control her into marrying him.
Devon was in love with Alisha but she didn't know it. During one rescue he protects her from drowning. And they get together. They fine out they have a lot in common and start spending time together. Which Vincent could not stand for. Things start happening to the staff of Lifeline and no one knows why.
Can Alisha and Devon make it or will Vincent win and tear them apart?
This book is excellent and the characters are strong and work well together.

4.5 stars.

I liked this one much better than High Risk. Risk had the burden of establishing the Lifeline world and now we can just enjoy seeing Alisha's and Devon's relationship develop. There is a mystery/stalker subplot, but

This type of book is as close to nature as I like to get and Arend does a good job of balancing the S&R missions with the romance. Arend also writes amazingly hot sex scenes. For this reason especially, I'm really looking forward to book three, High Seduction, because Arend starts laying a little bit of background for Erin that has me very curious.

If you liked High Risk, you'll like this one. If you're looking for something more suspenseful and with less sex, try Nora Roberts's Chasing Fire instead.

Some of the first paranormal romances I ever read were written by this author and her writing style and her insight into relationships hooked me for good. Now she has published a new series about Search and Rescue personnel who live and breathe training and working in high tensions situations. It makes all their relationships just that much more intense, to be sure. These main characters showed up in Book One, "High Risk" and now readers are treated to the development of their personal relationship, one that is certainly not a smooth "ride" in any way. Not only that, Alisha has hidden her high society roots, a life she has willingly left behind, but one that catches up to her in an effort to suck her back into the politics of corporate America and the greed that so often fuels the obsession for financial success. Great story from an author who has proven that she can tell a story that will keep us riveted from start to finish.

The book isn't bad, it is sexy, suspenseful, action packed and has a some-what decent plot.

However I skip and jump through out this book. It's like swimming with a beach ball in the pool, it bobbed around a bit, gotten close and touch me lightly here and there occasionally, but it wasn't like swimming with my dog, who would grabbed me and not let go. Who will also dribble and drool all over me in the process, but it's what made the experience memorable.

I think the unexplained holes in the plot is what had gotten to me, the over-the-top, irrational behaviour from Alisha is annoying, the unexplained over-the-top behaviour from the villain, Alisha's father and Lara had gotten to me too.

I like books with suspenseful elements had tightly woven plots that eventually tie into a neat bow at the end, this book did not achieve that, and therefore 3 stars.

Another fabulous installment in Vivian Arend's Adrenaline Search & Rescue series--exciting and engrossing. This one focuses on two other members of the elite Lifeline team based in Banff, Alberta, in the Canadian Rockies.

Alisha Bailey and Devon Leblanc have been doing the slow tease by competition ever since they started search-and-rescue school. Neither's stepped over the line to act on that long simmering attraction, but of course, nature steps in to nudge them together and that smolder ignites into something greater than the two of them.

Fascinating plot involving them personally and professionally, and made for a bit of a suspenseful and page-turning read.

Can't wait to pick up High Seduction!
