The Dawn of Qumran: The Sectarian Torah and the Teacher of Righteousness

Rate this book
This challenging work analyses the recently discovered Qumran text which Yigael Yadin named The Temple Scroll. In this book, the author Ben Zion Wacholder names the text the Qumranic Torah, i.e. the constitution of the sect. A study of the content, form and purpose of the surviving text shows its similarity to the legal sections of the Torah, the Five Books of Moses. On the basis of a comparison of this scroll with related writings from Qumran, such as the Book of Jubilees and the Damascus document, the author concludes that this work was the ideological foundation of the sect and its literature.
