My favorite part of this book is that they had a map with the location marked for each photo. That’s so helpful. I took off a star for all the millions of years stuff that I don’t necessarily agree with. Also, I’d love an update of this book with current photos and updates of their predictions from the first version of the book.
This is a book that you can pick up and get lost in, repeatedly. The photography is breathtaking and I never grow tired of looking at it. I have had my copy for some time. Brilliant work.
OK I will admit it when it comes to books I am easily - far too easily I guess - distracted in my reading. This is one I found on my travels second hand - and since it was missing its dust jacket, it was considerably reduced in price - it was a give away practically. As for the book - well any book published by the National Geographic Society is a thing of beauty and this is no exception. The book is filled with high quality ultra clear images taken by astronauts through the years - and the most amazing thing is that all of them have been taken in their spare time on equipment they took with them and they cared for. It sort of puts my holiday snaps to shame thats for sure. I think of the most amazing things about this images is that it illustrates clearly and concisely why so many astronauts have a deep understanding of our world and its environment - from on high you see beyond the political and economic boundaries and see the world for what it is - a beautiful and dynamic thing fill with intricacies far too subtle and shifting for us to truly comprehend - shame we cannot send a few politicians up there as well. Anyway if you get a chance to read this book I highly recommend it
A photo album taken from space of places around the world. Beautiful shots. I especially liked the pictures of the Auroras. Descriptive comments followed the pictures but at times I could not make out the specific scenes the author was trying to illustrate not being a geographer myself. Still all in all a nice coffee table book.
Absolutely stunning photographs. A must read for any outer space enthusiast or anybody who wishes to know how beautiful the Earth looks from outer space.
