Bog Tender is a study of the act of writing and of nature and where the two intersect. George Szanto, an accomplished fiction writer, lives and writes on a bog, and for him this natural phenomenon has become a metaphor for life and the creative process. Rather than filling in the wetland that cuts his island property in two, Szanto has embraced it as a site of inspiration. ...more

George Szantos and his wife Kit bought land on an island off the west coast called Gabriola Island. This writing is a rambling between memory and month to month life in the bog that bisects their property.I liked it!

George is my cousin, so I should recuse myself from reviewing this memoir, but I am too impressed with it to abstain . It's fascinating and exceptionally well written.
