Cree and Dawn’s story continues in Forbidden Highlander.
Dawn struggles to accept her future as Cree’s mistress while his future bride Lucerne Gerwan arrives in the village. But there is more for her to worry over. The attempts on her life continue and she fears Cree’s reaction when he learns that she carries his child.
The situation grows worse when warriors from the McClusky clan arrive in the village and the laird, Kirk McClusky, claims that Dawn is his daughter. Dawn wonders if it can be true and though her father insists she return home with him, she knows her love for Cree will never allow her to leave him. She cannot envision life without him.
Cree faces many obstacles in ensuring Dawn will be his, the hardest being his own failure to tell Dawn how he truly feels about her. But when she is taken from him, his temper rages and nothing stops him from bringing her home. He cannot think of life without her.
Cree and Dawn battle old secrets that finally surface and threaten to tear them apart. And it is with strength and courage that they fight for their love and a future together.
I skimmed all those tedious sexual encounters, they were really exhausting! Moreover, the heroine was either attacked or injured so often that it became tiring.
While the remaining pages had a suspenseful plot, which was the reason I kept reading them, I will not continue this series.
Being able to re-read this four times in slightly over a year entitles this to a 5 star rating, I should think. There's just something about Cree and Dawn's relationship that I can't help but love, and that I can't help but find appealing to read over and over again. It think this has become my comfort book, to be honest--and now I'm wondering if I should read further into the other books of the series, past the third one that focuses in on Thor and Wintra's romance?
Are Cree and Dawn worth pursuing further and further into their everlasting love--they just may be, hmm.....
Rating:4.5 / 5
Call me crazy, but for some reason I really did like this one--both the book and the series (so far). Sure, it's improbable to the point of ridiculousness and does drag on quite a bit, but for some reason I just like it. Maybe it I'm just reading it at the right time to have a good reaction to it, and therefore that's the cause of my high rating more than the merit of the book itself?
Well, maybe...
Anyway, the story picks up from where it left off, with Dawn and Cree together but also on tumultuous ground as Cree's official "fiancee" is due to arrive in the small village of Dowell soon. Cree makes it clear that nothing changes about their relationship though, and Dawn, having succumbed to her feelings for Cree, decides to go along with this.
Now, usually I would hate hate hate this forced love triangle plot where the hero is juggling two heroines, one who he wants to be with and one who is seemingly more suited to him and whatnot, but the author puts illusions of that bullshit away quite easily by making Cree's intended, Lucerne, well...a bitch. (We find out stuff later on about her that changes her character 180, but by that point she's no longer a threat and so, yeah, we can sympathize with her.) But anyway, Cree absolutely hates her and doesn't even give an impression of being nice to her, so on the Dawn-Cree front there are no misunderstands or jealousies.
There's tons of other revelations that the plot hurls at you though, one after the other, and while they do pile on and drag the plot by a lot between the repetitive and plentiful scenes of Dawn and Cree's lovemaking, I found that I was never at any point tempted to skim over them or DNF the book. I guess that by this point I was just too caught up in the characters and wanting to know what happened to them in order to be discouraged by the things that I usually would be discouraged by.
Call it what you will, but this book just happened to be my cup of tea at the right time, and so I'm receiving it well even while acknowledging its faults. What other, lower-star reviews are saying about this book is true, but for some reason it just doesn't bother me. I don't know why, trust me, but it is what it is, and I like this book and am keeping it as a kindle purchase. Will I be re-reading it against someday?
Um...that would be a yes.
Anyway, curious as I am to find out what happens next in the story, I will actually be taking a short break from this series, as I need to read something different before I'm quite ready to continue on with this story, the plot, characters, and writing style of this author.
A short break, but then I'll continue with Highlander's Captive. Stay tuned, stay tuned.
I just don't know why i am putting my self through this series , but i am. I just want to find out what happens to dawn and cree.
*** dawn is pregnant and doesn't let cree know about that. *Someone wants to kill dawn Like there are tooo damnn fucking many attempts to kill her , that i wanted to kill her myself 😅😅. *dawn just doesn't know when to just stay at the cottage and not get herself killed. * old mary and her weird riddles keep you up. *more attempts to kill dawn , but the reasons are yet to be known ( I'm frustrated at this point ) * dawn's real father and brother discover her. * dawn's father and brother kidnap her 😑huhh *someone stabs dawn. Cree knows about the baby. * cree's destined wife comes to dowell. She is a bitch with a capital w. * more killing attempts. * dawn's real mother is here. * cree's destined wife isn't a bitch , but is made crazy because of "potions". * more killing attempts. * dawn's father is almost killed. ***** ****** Dawn's own mother tries to kill her .and she is behind all of this.and now i have a major headache.
******** I just skipped past all the sex . Coz it was repetitive and annoying. And i didn't know that people said " sexy, damn, other urban dictionary words"in 1200bc 😂.
There is no hea yet. Cozz i have to endure another book coz cree's sister is abducted. Kill me nowww!!!!!
not so good this time, Ok, I like the story between Dawn and Cree but I think that the author spent a lot of time in the sex scenes and not so much in the character's or the story development and I would like a little bit of depth in the characters, not only Dawn
endearing, but so tedious …….. 80% of this novel is the same events repeated over and over and over again and i didn’t love how the mystery wrapped up ….. but i did like the characters and of course, the romance between our main couple.
Loved reading about this couple. Probably the best couple I've read in a long time. This H was SUPER obsessed with the h. He was insanely protective and all about her. I can't count how many times he declared that she was his. The story however was too convoluted and it didn't make sense. It was a little too convenient that the h's heritage was so special. Plus, why the HELL doesn't she ever listen? Every time the H told her to stay put she would leave and get into trouble. This happened WAY too many times. Also, h was adored by everyone and would even win over people who didn't like her (insert eyeball). Anyway, H was pretty desperate to be with the h all the time and adored her. This was a fantastic couple and I loved them. FYI, there is a lot of sex in this book. The H and h go at it like rabbits.
I rarely got bored with Dawn and Cree interaction. Although Dawn was mute, the story is so enjoyable, sweet, enchanting nonetheless. Cree was such a passionate and almighty warrior <33
This was such a great read. I love this author and how her characters seem so realistic. I love Cree and Dawn's continued story, I love it so much I've read it too many times to count. I appreciate that the plot is not filled with tons fluff and there are no loose ends to this story. I love that Dawn's unknown history comes into play in this book and could possibly separate her and Cree, but of course Cree would never allow that. He would defy the king himself for his love, just don't expect him to be a cuddle bear. It's rare to find a book you can read every few weeks, again, and not be tired of it or its characters.
Dawn: *Gestures* I'm independent and capable of surviving. *Ignores safety warnings*
Villan : Kidnap Dawn x2, Injure Dawn x5, attempt to kill Dawn x3
Dawn: * repeats the process all over again*
The thing I don't like about this book is that it's repetitive when it comes to certain actions. There is so much action but there is no consequence or effect after something bad happens. There is no development. It's like the character did not learn from their previous mistake. Also as a Scary devil warrior CREE needs to start ... idk.... chopping heads. He never follows through. For the amount of stuff that happens to Dawn, I would expect limbs to be flying Everywhere. There is no character development whatsoever. The story is one note too many times.
Forbidden and Unchained Highlander is my second favorite book in the Highlander romance genre, and it’s easy to see why!!
The story follows the fierce heroine, who is mute, yet her strength and determination shine through as she navigates a world that often underestimates her and Dawn finds herself drawn to the mysterious and captivating Highland warrior, Cree.
What truly sets this romance apart is how Cree treats Dawn with respect and understanding, communicating with her through gestures and expressions while occasionally teasing her to be quiet. This was my Favourite Part from the Book !!
Better than the first book because I finally get my answers about Dawn and the puzzles surrounding her. The element of mystery was an intriguing touch and I enjoyed reading it. Her scenes with Cree? Not so much. I felt that Cree's character could've been so much more better and there could've been major developments in their relationship but almost all their scenes together were sex scenes, which I didn't mind at first but it got quite repetitive.
2nd time reading this story in this trilogy. Dawn and Cree are amazingly strong characters. Donna Fletcher does not disappoint. Cree is strong and mighty but Dawn is just as courageous and brave silently. Passion is in abundance in this tale while danger lurks for all!
Full of sizzling passion,, an awesome strong hero in Cree. You can't help but love Dawn. Her strength and her living heart. What an amazing couple they make. A true love story!
I love all your books. You pull us into your stories until we feel we actually know each the characters. Love always playing a part, but also mystery & mahem! If I had any complaints it’s we need MORE books. Thank you
Hermosa historia de amor y superación. Solo no le doy las 5 estrellas porque para mi gusto abusaron de escenas de sexo. Aunque es comprensible el apetito de una mujer embarazada pero no se vale abusar.
