The Duke = a FUN READ! I love a good character based historical. This one brings me into the middle of their lives with a fun romantic short. I fell in love in 15 pages! Loved it, and I love reading these short romances on my Droid. I'll be looking for more shorts by Ms. Conner to read.

As far as historical romances go, I have one preference; Lords, Dukes, Kings. Ladies, Countesses, Princesses. I am a sucker for anything Victorian and slightly earlier, and I love either bad boys reforming or girls gone awry. So this short story caught my eye fairly easily with the title alone.
The premise of the story is simple enough; a Duke and a young lady reclaiming a night they should have had many years before. However, despite it being a reasonably enjoyable read, I felt there was something missing that would have made it a great read. The first of these issues was that the overall feel of the story was a bit boring. With everything that happens in the book and the potential that it possessed, I felt it could have been so much better than it was. I also thought the dialogue was stinted in places and could have flowed much better than it did.
Overall, as a free short story, it might be worth a read if you’re into Dukes and Victorian times, but I feel it could have been much better than it was.

Amelia, although a strong woman, is faced with a desperate and heartbreaking situation. She turns to the one person whom she trusts implicitly for help and hopes that he will listen to her appeal and free her from her plight before she is trapped in a loveless and possibly abusive marriage forever.
This story is set in a time when women had little say about whom they married. They were seen more as bargaining tools and artifacts to insure ones rise insure ones rise in society and wealth. A time when merging families was seen as a wise move, never caring whether the men and women loved one another.
My heart soared when I learned of Spencer's true feelings, as will yours. If asked what one thing stuck with me after reading this story, it would be never underestimate the friendship which has developed slowly over the years when one's heart is concerned.
I look forward to reading more of Ms. Conner's work.

Quick, free read. Really it's a sex scene since they know/knew each other before he went off to war. She approaches him to take her virginity. The man who is desiring to marry her wants the dowry and property accompanying her plus a legitimate heir but is in actuality in love with someone else who doesn't come with much of a dowry. Apparently the hero has been in love with her for ages but hadn't the balls to act on his feelings. Neither character has much character, especially considering he's a duke, but at least they love each other.

A micro-novella (approx 35 pages)
Book one of The Regimental Heroes Historical Romance boxed series.
Amelia has a shocking proposition to put to the Duke, a man she's known since they were children.
Eh, um. Tame is what comes to mind. Even though the author threw in the 'known each other for years' scenario I still found the speed of the 'romance' way too fast, even for me but 30+ pages doesn't leave even the most accomplished writers much room to weave their magic.

A short story that started off really good. The problem I had was the dialog when they started to realize they were ; then it became a bit sappy. But it was a HEA and ended well.
