Note: Alternate/new cover edition for ASIN# B008WEQ9VA

Megan has been offered the opportunity to prove she’s more than a pretty face. Drew Mackenzie is hell bent on ruining that opportunity, making him her number one enemy. He couldn’t be any further from her type, but something about him gets under her skin and stay's there. Is it the annoying way he looks at her as if he might kiss her at any moment, or is it that arrogant chuckle that irritates her? One thing’s for certain…he’s the last guy she ever expected to fall in love with.

Drew has spent a lifetime avoiding being anything like his womanizing father. Hell, that's why he moved away, to get out from under the man's control. But Megan stirs an all-consuming desire within him that’s difficult to ignore: the alpha male inside him wants to claim her, take her to his bed and unleash years of pent up sexual desire, but if he does… his father wins, in more ways than one.

This is my review also posted on Amazon.com

I am so happy I came across this new author! Law has done it with spitfire heroine Megan, who believes honesty is ALWAYS the best policy (Especially when it's not PC). She is brash, candid and at times snobby. But her façade becomes apparent. Megan's stepfather decides it is time for her to do her part in an ill-fated bet and he "gives" her the family ranch to renovate and sell. Little does Megan know this "ranch" is not rightfully hers and she is a drawn into a game of "texas hold em".

Drew is an emotionally battered hero, not one for relationships he keeps women at arm's length. Leaving his verbally and mentally abusive father behind, Drew takes refuge at the "ranch" and builds a family with the farm hands and housekeeper who live there, kind of the new normal, these people love and protect one another on the ranch. He not only creates a new family but he also has a "talented touch" for animals; the touch of a blessed handler who is able to sooth and work with wild horses. Still reeling from his rocky past with his father Drew is not surprised when his father entangles him in this disastrous bet. Pushing him to work his "poker face".

These two don't meet by chance but by a devilish scheme concocted by Drew's father and Megan's dad. Both men have been long time business partners who have a long history of relentless competitiveness....

In and out of the boardroom.

Let Law take you on romantic jaunt filled with laugh out loud romantic comedy and tearful heart wrenching loss. The loveable banter of distaste only adds to an emotional climax of more than just a love making romp. Watch how these players are emotionally "stripped", falling hard and deep, these two will be tested in the hardest way.
Can Drew let go of his bitter past and step out the shadow of his father? Will Megan find her confidence and realize her dream?

I really wish I could give this book 4 stars and I would if it didn't have so many errors so 3 stars it is.

An old rivalry between old friends/old business partners has the potential to ruin lives when the son and stepdaughter of the two men are pawns in a bet that will end in disaster no matter who wins.

I'll make this quick. All the things I loved about this book and hated.

Loved:
- I"m a sucker for a dare or bet or competition of any form.
- I enjoyed the steady progression of the story with few flashbacks.
- I liked some of the characters and their personalities. A nice balance of feisty/bitchy, arrogant and just straight up assholes (they played their roles well)
- descriptive intimate scenes that weren't cheesy or too raunchy
- Major cliff hanger

Dislikes:
- Grammar
- Grammar
- Grammar
- From the beginning the bet had potential to really beef up the story line but it just fizzled. Maybe I'll have to wait until book 2.

I wish I could write more, but right now I've been reading and writing for the past 14 hours and I just can't put anymore letters together to form a coherent thought. I still can't wait for book two since this one left me in the middle of a VERY REAL cliff hanger.

Poker Face
Poker Face Book One
By Adriana Law
★★★★

It all begins with a bet. Paul Stratford makes a bet with his business partner, Jonathon Mackenzie, that his step daughter will not be seduced by Jonathon’s son. So the two of the devise a scheme to have Megan and Drew in each other’s way to see who will win.

Drew and Megan seem to be a match made in Hades but the further book goes along the more the two seem to become something so much more. This was a fun book with quite a few unexpected twists. Though some editting is still needed for this novella Adriana Law has come up with a brilliant story with plenty of potential as the series continues. I did have one big problem with this book and of course it is towards the end so I cannot say what it is without a spoiler alert but I will say it is just my personal opinion and not everyone will see it the same way I do.

**Spoiler Alert**
Safe sex c’mon they even talk about how Megan doesn’t want to have sex without a condom because of her fear of Contracting HIV. Good job there, but when she finds out Drew is a virgin it seems it’s ok to have unprotected sex. But wait! How do we know that Megan doesn’t already have a nasty STD she is about to pass on to poor unsuspecting Drew?
** End Spoiler Alert**

Other than that the story is great the romance is beautiful the plot twists are truly surprising and may make you want to resort to physical violence towards one or more of the characters, and at 112 pages it is definitely worth the quick read.

I really do like a good cliche "rich-girl-gets-to-live-the-rough-life-and-finds-herself" kind of story. Along with the bad boy with the good heart, it makes for a lovely little romance to watch unfold. I bought this book based on the cover, I thought it was going to be a risque, 50 Shades, dominant male, etc., type of book, so the first 3/4 of the book with the heroine finding herself, and not much lovin' going on but lots of flirting and fighting, was not what I expected. However, even though it was still overall not what I thought it would be, oh it had some good parts - just not to the extent that I was associating it with - the last quarter of the book fell more in line with what I had been waiting for: sex, dominance, a man that can't get enough (a male virgin for once was interesting to see), and the cliffhanger ending was really good. I was heartbroken for the heroine, (and she took it like a real champ, strong, unwavering, and completely honest with him and herself - love it!), and I cannot, cannot wait to see what happens in the next book, Dead Man's Bluff.

This book was good. For me it was a bit difficult to follow and a bit slow at first, but the story was interesting as it developed and enjoyable. The sex scenes weren't the hottest out there but they were nice, and the characters were wonderfully complex and loveable. The grammatical mistakes drove me absolutely crazy. They were very distracting, especially considering that the characters are supposed to be well-to-do and educated. While I thought the cliff hanger was an interesting twist and I desperately want to know what happens, I was disappointed. I like cliffhangers, but I also feel like the story in each book should complete itself somewhat and only after that leave you hanging, this just felt incomplete. It might have made more sense at the end of a series, but as a beginning of a story, it just felt unfinished. I am likely in the minority on this point, though.

STORY With A TWIST

No playful bartending in this story because they straight hate each other, or do they? This story starts out funny with all the antics of a city girl going to live on a cattle ranch. It turns into a sweet story of love. Love of family- whether blood or not, love of the land and being able to do what you love. It also has some sneakiness and deceit. When a young man meets the girl he's been in love with since he was ten... You can see where a few problems may arise. This is one of those books where you yell, "No! Don't do it!" but of course, they do it anyway. You're left with a cliffhanger that you can wait to start book two.

DEAD MAN'S BLUFF: POKER FACE BOOK 2. It's on!

I really liked this book but between the bad grammar and the poor sentence structure, I had a hard time giving this book anything higher than 3 stars. If the book was edited a little more I would have definitely given it an extra star. What a great story line!

Would have given it five stars if it wasn't for typos (not many...it happens) and the ending made me cry. I really need the second book but I have no idea when it'll be released.

I loved this book! The plot was fast, the characters developed in a very realistic manner and the hot scenes were exactly the right dose to make it a pageturner.

I found it very difficult to like any of the characters in this story. Meg was the only one I could slightly like but she was so pathetic. I can't believe she supposedly forgave her parents for the horrible trick they played on her, especially her mother. I'm guessing the next story will be Emma and Christopher's but I won't be wasting my time with it. Emma is just a tramp who would have done her "brother" in the bathroom if Drew hadn't stopped it. Ugh, no thanks. I also hated how the book bounced around. Sometimes it's in the present, then the past and then, whammo, we're in the future! The best part of this book was that it was free!

I got this book free on Amazon, and I wanted to like it, but I just couldn't get into it. No rating for this one as I did not finish it. The grammar issues and lack of depth made me put it down.

Would have been a full five stars if not for so many typos.
But still, loved the love/hate relationship between Drew and Megan.
