Average book with a motley collection of contemporary journeys by indian & foreign author-travelers to different parts of India, spanning between 1950 to as recent as 2006.
As happens with such a collection- many of them are a small part of bigger stories written as novels, so one might be left feeling unsatiated.
But it covers quite many places- Kashmir, Chattisgarh, Telangana & many more remote Indian places has been included, but many of these stories pertains to 1980's, so may feel a t

Wonderfully curated book of short stories from travellers across India.

If you were in search of a book that would give you an insiders sense of India, with its multi colored hues and contradictions, this is one. The mix of writers ensures it never gets monotonous and Dom Moraes has his cocktail mixing skills in place :-)

The Penguin book of Indian journeys, edited by Dom Moraes is a collection of travel essays. It includes essays by some of the best known travelers, writers and journalists like Paul Theroux, Ruskin Bond, Mark Tully, Anita Nair and Bruce Chatwin.
As the name suggests, it is a book of journeys and not just travel. Every story is a unique experience that deals with a different emotion. It is only once you start reading that you realize it is a kaleidoscope, of the colors and contradictions that mak

This book compiles those experiences from different works to make a nostalgic dive into Indian territory. Eminent and expressive writers recount Himachal and Ladhakh, and go through the mazes of Delhi. They take the Indian trains, and live in Darj ...more

An enthralling collection of journeys around India - the magical India, the enchanting India, the dying India, the luxurious India, the despairing India- to say the least, a verdant feast for your imagination. An ideal place for an armchair traveller.
Few chapters are from books I have previously read, other than that, a thoroughly varied spread.

An old favourite of mine. Short stories written by various authors, capturing the myriad places in India, right from Varanasi and the Ganges - which always has to be written about to others. A nice read.
