A friend lent me this book and I immediately fell in love at the first browse. I admit I love this book more for its recipes than its coffee content. There are various recipes for coffee accompaniments: from a simple chocolate- filled sandwiches (yes, the pretentious Valrhona variety) to cakes to liquor-filled chocolate truffles; for breakfast to dinner. Each recipe comes with a suggested coffee to drink.

It is not very easy to find coffee mates here and I can't resist some of the recipes. I bought the book and was tempted to invest in simple baking equipments despite my swearing off baking. The items featured are my favourites: brownies, cookies, corn bread, muffins, mocha streaked muffin (which resembles Starbuck's mocha pound cake), savoury breakfast sandwiches, savoury pastries, etc. Provoked by images of me sipping coffee with freshly baked goodies on lazy Sundays, I promise to try them out one by one.

The recipes are very easy to follow even for novice like me. I tried the brownies which turned out to be slightly dry due to my own fault. I left it too long in the oven. However, the taste was exactly as promised. It wasn't sweet at all but intense and dark and really really good to be had with coffee.

This book is not for learning about sophisticated coffees. It's about the basic: the different methods of coffee making, the coffee-making equipments, the major types of coffee, and the coffee jargon. The photographs are bonus: they are simply beautiful pictures of beautiful things.

A good buy for novice baker and cafe-owner wannabe.

I really enjoyed this one! Beautiful photography, and I love the way they divided up the recipes by time of day. Everything seems like something I could make if I made sure to get the right tools and ingredients (being a college student, I don't have much culinary fanciness around). I have yet to actually try any of the recipes, but I'm looking forward to it!
