Read as part of the Red Hot Holiday anthology.

This is a sweet story of a couple who indulge in a bit of D/s lite in their own home. Family and career circumstances have led them both to live a long distance from one another, only seeing each other a few times a year. They're very much in love and both decide to surprise the other with for Christmas by resigning and planning to relocate to be with the other one.

It's quite a sweet romance, very lovey dovey with some great sex scenes including my absolute favourite, the sex swing and Ryan has immortalised his most vital organ in marble all ready to use on Meg.

Leah Braemel gives a delicious Holiday romance in this novella. It's one of three shorts included in the Anthology, One Hot Holiday. Megan Sullivan may be a strong-willed Mountie but she completely succumbs to the will of her artist lover, Ryan Porter, in the bedroom. The mild D/s given is just enough to heat the pages and have you fanning away in these cold winter months.

Ryan and Meg are very much in love and frustrated with their long distance relationship. Seeing each other only two or three times a year is just not enough. Unknown to the other, they each have taken steps to relocate and plan on revealing their little secret at Christmas.

I Need You for Christmas takes place in Ryan’s hometown. The week leading up to Christmas is filled with these two catching up on all they’ve missed while being apart. Needless to say, there’s lots of erotic, hot love scenes and one in particular involving a swing that you won’t easily forget.

-This was part of the Red Hot Holiday anthology-

A nice story but for some reason I didn't warm up to it :(

There was a hot scene with a swing and a marble c*ck (the hero is a sculptor), but the characters weren't that interesting to me, I just read it to get it over with Photobucket

*update* Did a re-read of this one, because I just love it! (Dec 2, 2013)

Just as I've come to always expect with Leah's writing, she has written a great emotional, sexy, and heartwarming story. Megan and Ryan have been together since college, but as she followed her dreams to become a Mountie, he had to stay and take care of his siblings after his parents died. This Christmas they are both determined to get what they want and they are willing to make great sacrifices to make that happen. For Megan she is willing to give up one dream for a bigger one, and Ryan is willing to uproot his entire life just to be with her. Problem is that neither one has told the other about their plans. The chemistry between these two is very steamy, and Ryan's artistic inspirations in the bedroom make this novella one Red Hot Holiday read! But aside from that it is a very sweet and romantic read that leaves the reader with a smile. I highly recommend you read this!

My Review:
Rating: B+

This is a modern (and very erotic) twist on the Gift of the Magi story. Ryan and Megan have been dating for at least a couple of years, but because of their careers they live in completely different parts of Canada and only get to see each other a couple of times a year. They are both tired of it and want to be together. What they don't realize is that each of them have sacrificed their career to surprise the other at Christmas with the fact that they can now live together.

This is the first book I've ever read that involved rope play....I liked it. Really, incredibly sexy. In fact, there was a lot about this novella that I liked. I liked the relationship...that Megan is the police officer and Ryan is the artist. There are great depictions throughout the story of Ryan manipulating his art which provides great ambiance. Speaking of ambiance, I am IN LOVE with the renovated space Ryan lives and works in...that building alone was worth Megan being the one to give up her career. I want to live there. Overall just a great little Christmas erotic read!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This review was originally published at Dear Author

This was my least favorite of the three stories. I Need You for Christmas is a sex-laden retelling of The Gift of the Magi set in a small bucolic Canadian town.

Megan Sullivan’s dream was to be a Mountie and she’s pursued that career with great success. She’s spent the last few years stationed in Nunavut, a remote, sparsely populated part of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Being a part of the RCMP has kept her apart from her long-time boyfriend, sculptor Ryan Porter. Meg’s come back to Ryan’s home town of Porter Mills for the holidays with a big secret. She’s resigned from the RCMP and signed up with the Ontario Provincial Police. It means a demotion in rank for her but she’s ready to live full-time with Ryan and she’s sure she’ll move up the ranks in her new job.

Ryan is wildly successful and loves his work. Porter Mills is close enough to Toronto, and the USA, for him to be able to easily show and ship his work to his ever-growing list of buyers. He also feels responsible for his younger half-brother and sister who live in Porter Mills and whom he has essentially raised. He’s giving it all up, however, to be with Meg. He hasn’t told her, but he’s bought a ticket to the Arctic and plans to move there in the new year. It will make his professional life more difficult and he worries he’ll feel isolated but he loves Meg deeply and believes being with her is more important than anything else.

The reader–and everyone other than Meg–knows from the beginning of the novella the choice Ryan has made. I found it hard to believe Meg couldn’t pick up on the bazillion of clues the novella drops–cryptic conversations and arguments she overhears, odd responses from the little town’s denizens, etc…. It also seemed unrealistic either would make such a huge decision without discussing it with the other.  I grew bored and impatient with the plot.

I also got tired of Meg’s and Ryan’s sex life. The love scenes in this book are plentiful and act as placeholders–set pieces to hold the reader’s attention until the big reveal. Meg’s a bit of a submissive; Ryan’s a bit of a dominant but, especially taken after the smoldering D/S dynamics in Wish List, the passion in I Need You for Christmas seems wan. The many trysts between Meg and Ryan all feel the same and don’t contribute to moving the story forward. The sex is hot and explicit but not especially enticing.

I did find it interesting to learn what a modern Mountie does. Ms. Braemel’s prose is clean and clear and it’s easy to envision the people and places she describes. But her reimagining of O Henry’s Christmas classic falls far short of its inspiration. Meg and Ryan are no Della and Jim. I give I Need You for Christmas a C.

I liked the atypical gender roles in this "Gift of the Magi" inspired story. Meg is a Mountie; her long-time lover Ryan, an artist, planned to follow her to her job, but was forced to stay home and take care of his orphaned younger siblings. Now that they no longer need him, he's ready to give up everything so Meg can continue to follow her dream -- not realizing that Meg has planned to make some changes herself.

The importance of Meg and Ryan's respective callings, and their feelings for each other, came through well here. I was less impressed with the numerous sex scenes -- other than one dramatic one involving bondage and swings, they didn't seem that necessary. The writing and story overall felt unsubtle and obvious. 2 stars.

In this novella Megan and Ryan have been together for years but mostly living apart and sustaining their relationship on visits. Megan is back though with a surprise for Ryan. Problem is Ryan has a surprise for her too. There are some really hot sex scenes in this novella involving a swing, rope and something made of marble. Ah a artist mind is very clever. The love and romance you feel coming off Megan and Ryan is sigh worthy. Megan being a Mountie is the tough one which is a bit of a flip from the guy being in that roll but it works. I loved both characters so much. Definite red hot read!

Alternate title: All I Need for Christmas
A Gift of the Magi retelling but a whole lot sexier; this little novella is about established couple Megan and Ryan who have been a long-distance couple for many years. The story is about how each of them are willing to uproot their lives to move to whether the other one...and they're keeping it a surprise from each other, which is kind of a BIG surprise to not tell your significant other; they quit jobs and accept new jobs (that second one is just Megan) and all these people are mean to Megan because they're angry because they think Ryan is uprooting his life to appease her (but she doesn't even know!). Overall, it was really hot and sexy and I could have done without the intentional miscommunication and secrets part but still, fairly enjoyable.

Ryan and Megan have been a couple for years and are crazy about each other but they are both sick of having a long distance relationship. When Megan left to follow her dream of becoming a Mountie Ryan had to stay home and look after his younger siblings after his parents died but they have kept their relationship alive with visits as often as they can. Now Megan has had enough of being so far from Ryan, she chased her dream and has spent time working as a Mountie but now she has a more important dream to follow - to spend her life by Ryan's side. Ryan also has plans to surprise Megan this Christmas, now that his siblings are away at college he has the freedom to follow Megan so that they can finally be together. They're both going to be in for quite a shock come Christmas morning!

I absolutely loved I Need You for Christmas and it was my favourite novella in the Red Hot Holidays anthology. Leah Braemel was able to create characters that I connected with immediately and even though Ryan and Megan don't get to spend much time together you could tell how much they loved each other and what a perfect couple they were. I loved the fact that they were both so willing to give up their own dreams to put their partner first and I couldn't help smiling at the way they were both making plans behind the others back. As a Mountie Megan has to be in control of every situation at all times but she loves nothing more than letting her hair down with Ryan and letting him take control. Ryan was pretty much the perfect guy, he was sweet, caring and protective of both Megan and his family, he takes his responsibilities seriously and was someone that you could rely on. At the same time he was artistic, creative, funny and incredibly sexy - the things that man can do with a couple of ropes is guaranteed to make you swoon! The ultimate feel good Christmas story I Need You for Christmas is a novella that I will be reading again every year because it left me with the biggest smile on my face.

Ryan Porter is a sculptor with the ability to bend and mold any metal to his will. His independent, confident and strong-willed Mountie is no different, delighting in his dominant ways in the bedroom. However, the infrequent visits are frustrating them both.

Megan Sullivan is coming home for Christmas to her longtime boyfriend, Ryan. Due to her job as a Mountie, which has kept her away in the arctic, and his family obligations, they have been unable to meet more than a couple of times a year for limited periods. Now this Mountie wants to keep her man on permanent basis.

Both of them have a surprise in store for each other on Christmas, but first they have to make up for the lost time. Maybe, Ryan will finally tell Megan that all he wants and desires is her more than anything.

This is not just another erotic hot Christmas story, but much much more. Readers get to feel their frustrations, hopes and dreams with them. The author writes and portrays the difficulties of long distance relationships beautifully, how love, trust, understanding of each other’s feelings and problems can actually overcome them. Everyone knows how difficult it is to maintain trust, especially if long distance. This story will encourage readers to take a chance, giving tips on how to make it work. A must read for all.

What even was the point of this book? There was absolutely no plot. The characters were dull. The romance was flat. Probably the worst book I’ve ever read.

Ryan and Megan have been apart for a few months because of Megan’s work commitments and she is coming home for Christmas break to spend it with her man. Megan is a Mountie and proud of it but she knows it’s time for a change so she can be with her man, Ryan. Ryan has been responsible for his younger siblings ever since his parents died and now the youngest in the family, Sophie, has turned eighteen. Ryan is free of the responsibility and wants to make Meg his permanently, by marrying her like his younger brother Derek has done with her best friend Amy. Therefore, he hatches a plan to move to the Arctic where she is stationed so they do not have to spend another long break apart. Little does he know that Megan has her own plan and that involves moving back to his hometown. All Ryan needs for Christmas is Megan and the plans are in motion. But there is one small problem: they have two separate plans, one which is tearing their small town apart and they can’t tell each other or anyone else, so it is boiling down to Christmas Day where all will be revealed.

The book begins with Megan arriving at the airport and you feel the sexual tension between the pair when they share a sizzling reunion kiss. Therefore, it’s pretty obvious that when they get the time alone they will be all over each other and they do but you don’t expect the play in bedroom. Megan as a Mountie is a first for me in a romance book as I have usually only seen males in this role in the past. Megan is determined and confident in reaching her goals and Ryan is an artistic man whose work is becoming very popular and expensive. However, when it comes to bedroom their roles are reversed.

They are into BDSM play, not too heavy, just the light stuff but Ryan definitely controls the bedroom and has plans to keep Megan happy, and hopefully that will mean he gets her for Christmas. He tempts her and ties her up as he makes up for the time they’ve been apart in the bedroom. Nevertheless the couple is happy in the bedroom department, but they have their possible separation looming in the back of their minds and it’s not only affecting them. The town knows his secret and some of them are not happy—especially June, a friend that he is selling his sculptures to and who knows Ryan is giving up his teaching. Christmas day cannot come any faster for this couple.

I Need You for Christmas is one man’s plea for his girl but he can’t tell her and she can’t tell him she wants what her friend has: a life together in the same place and marriage since Ryan is now free from his responsibility which throws a spanner in the works and makes them change their plans.

I will start off by saying that Leah is one of my favorite authors so anything she releases I will read.

This was a wonderful story about enduring love, overcoming obstacles and true devotion. Ryan Porter did something that so many wouldn't do today, he gave up his own life in order to devote himself to caring for his siblings after the tragedy of losing their parents. He put himself second and put everyone else first, you just don't see that very often and it's so nice to read about it. This story touches so many places in my heart that it might just become my favorite of all of hers. And the steam is HIGH HIGH HIGH in this one. I knew what to expect having read so much of Leah's work but I was still surprised and the level of dominance shown by this sensitive artist. I think the unexpectedness of it made it even steamier.

I would recommend this to anyone that wants a good love story, a lot of steam and just a good book to warm you up on those cold winter nights.

If you like a lot of plot with your erotica and very light BDSM, then I Need You For Christmas is the perfect book for you this holiday season!

Megan is a Mountie (a type of police officer in Canada) and Ryan is a sculptor. This couple, who is very much in love, live apart and the distance is taking a toll on their relationship. So, for Christmas they decide to ‘gift’ each other the gift of living together. Reminiscent – to me – of The Gift of the Magi, their surprise brings a lot of unexpected twists!

NOTE: This book is set in Canada, and much like books which are set overseas, if you’re not familiar with the country, you could get lost in places. Otherwise, it’s a perfect feel-good holiday read!

Rating: 3 Kisses

LOVED this short; so many things made me want this story to continue. As I've come to expect, Leah can truly illustrate scenes to the point of actually feeling as if I'm there and witnessing the story unfold. The scene at the lake was one that will forever be imprinted on my mind. The drama, the stress, the emotions for all involved in that scene were so real. I felt that Meg and Ryan were well communicated as individuals and a couple; and I can understand the need for the hot scenes after being away from each other for so long. The marble and swing scene-- all that needs said lol. The family (especially the brothers) had me laughing; Christmas morning especially. And my favorite gift was the last one that Ryan gave Megan...it was a sweet moment and a wonderful way to end the story.

A sweet love story with some bite, I loved the closeness between Meg and Ryan - the heat; the irony of their careers and personalities. They complemented each other in every way. It was good they were able to get things sorted out for their HEA.
