I've given this a D for content and a B- for narration at AudioGals
The Rejected Suitor was originally published in 2004, and I regret to say that I don’t think it has aged well. The story revolves around the on-off romance between Lady Emily Clearbrook and Jared Ashton, Lord Stonebridge, who had fallen in love three years earlier, but were unable to marry because her father refused to grant them permission. Following that, Jared had quickly married another woman and taken up a post in India, bre ...more

I decided to re-read this series since the fourth book just came out yesterday. They can stand on their own, but I wanted to refresh my memory of the characters. Besides, the books are a lot of fun and worth reading more than once.
I enjoyed this one just as much the second time around. I liked Emily quite a bit, I think her alter ego could have been developed a little more; it seemed in the end to be more of a plot device and didn’t really fit with her actual character. I also liked Jared, very ...more

4.5 STARS. I ended up really liking this! The first half I enjoyed but wasn't loving(felt like 4 stars as I was reading), maybe because I felt like I should have known the characters already, but I didn't, so I had a hard time caring/getting into it completely. But it had great character depth for a fairly quick read, so the first half went by quickly and by halfway through I was beginning to love it, and by the end I knew I loved the story and couldn't wait to start the next book that follows o

I really wanted to love this book, it just did not connect for me. There was something about the dialogue that felt flat. It had witty moments but they just did not fell light.
Mostly I was annoyed with Emily, I know this is a historical but she was not to my liking. I wanted more fire and spunk from her. I was also not pleased with the hero, Jared married another woman and only came sniffing around again after she died. Nope not something I am generally a fan.

I absolutely adored this story! I love great characters with subtle humor in a fun setting.
Emily and Jared have a past. They once wanted to marry, but when Jared left without a word and married another, Emily was left heartbroken and devastated. Years later, their paths cross again and neither of them are sure they can handle it.
I love a good lost love story. It was written in a way that was easy for me to sympathize with Emily--I could feel her pain and sorrow. Emily is a strong character, not ...more

THANK YOU AGAIN AND AGAIN...KATH!!! I meant what I said in my last review. I have got to start reading somethings you don't read so I can give them to you!!!
I really enjoyed this one. I really liked the two main characters and I thought they had fun chemistry. My hesistation for five stars(I can tell I am in a picky mood), is the fact that I really didn't like that he kep secrets from her and the fact at how fast she forgave him. A DELIGHTFUL ROMANTIC STORY!!
When I first started reading The Rejected Suitor, I though what in the world have I just spent my money on!! The story just kept pulling me in further and further until I couldn't put it down. This is a fun romantic love story. If you are looking for a Sensual story this is Not it. There is no love making in the story. But it is Madcap Keystone funny!!

I loved this book. It was so fun to listen to, and of course I loved it when I read it. I had already read this book, and this time I got to listen to it. So fun!
Historical Romance can be so great to listen too. Of course the book was the same so I’ll post that review. Just know that if you ever need to listen to a book this is a great series to have on audio. You would love it!

Such a great funny and sweet book totally recommend it

Jared and Emily's past is fraught with love, loss, betrayal, broken promises, broken trust, and secrets. Their present is filled with the same.
With so many issues between them coupled with present issues that are just as dire, I wondered how these two would resolve their past and gain a future together. But they did, though the road to happily ever after wasn't without its fair share of twists and turns. It was interesting to watch Jared and Emily's hearts soften toward each other, to see those ...more

3 stars
It was a well written book with witty characters and humorous dialogue. In fact I liked the writing so much that I’ll definitely read more books by the talented Teresa McCarthy.
The three star rating was more about the infuriating characters that anything else.
First of all Jared. He was in love with our heroine, got rejected, got married and now he’s a widower and back in our heroine’s life. Ah Jared, I have so many things to tell you. First, when you decided you wanted to marry Emily you ...more

I want to preface my comments with the fact that I am a true fan of historical romance. I probably read and/or listen to about 100 such books per year. What attracted me to The Rejected Suitor is that it is set in the Regency period (think the Jane Austen era).
The story revolves around Jared, the Earl of Stonebridge, and Emily Clearbrook who is a Duke's daughter. Three years earlier Jared promised to marry her, but he left her without a word. Emily's brothers are committed to see her married soo ...more

Inconsistent characters, dialogues that were muddled and rereading them did not impart more sense to them. H's resentment towards h and his disillusioned attitude towards love were rather puzzling considering h was a victim of the past as much as he himself was, and that her love was true. As for h, she was rather undignified in her reaction towards meeting him again, continuing to whine about his supposed betrayal of her and thereby revealing way too much, how much she was hurt by him. And desc

Emily has 4 brothers who think they need to choose her a husband. Since she will have a lot of money, they think they should choose so she doesn't have to worry about the motives of the men she might meet. She is shipped off to live under the eye of Jared, who she loved until he left her and married another woman. Jared lost his wife and finds he still has feelings for her. Will the brothers think he is a suitable match? Of course not, he is too much like them. A battle of wills ensues as the ge

I listened to this book via audible as I read along and the narration was so bad the book suffered even more. The story it's self was okay, the characters were okay. There was a lot of dialogue (which I did like). Zero sex in this book so its rated G. There was kissing, that's it.
This story could have been much better.
Ruined by the narration. All the men sounded like old scratchy high pitch voiced idiots.
I don't think I will ever listen to this narrator, Pearl Hewitt, again. Sorry.. ...more

This is my favorite of this series. I absolutely love the characters. Emily is fiery and opinionated, and yet still vulnerable. There are great twists and turns in the plot that carry it along very nicely. The interplay between Jared and Roderick are fantastic. They keep me laughing. I felt that this was very realistic in the stories and how the characters acted. It always keeps you guessing.

I really liked this book! It was so cute and I loved Jared

It's been wonderful reading such a fantastic historical. :) It was so much fun! There was mystery and intrigue, infuriating moments, as well as moments of absolute hilarity! I even had to pause the audiobook a couple of times while I laughed out loud so I didn’t miss anything!

A bit of the comedy of errors feel about this one as the heroine's 4 brothers try to dictate her betrothal upon their return from Waterloo. These 4 brothers are rakes and rabble rousers who know what all men are like and can barely find one suitable for their sister in all the ton. Unbeknownst to them she's lead quite the adventure for the 3 years they've been gone to war as she's helped with the effort from home. Great story and had some fun twists but I found myself bored in a couple spots. It took me longer than usual to get through the first half but the second half made up for it. Just when I thought I had it all figured out something else would happen and the last half of the book I flew through and didn't want to put down. The characters were likable but stubborn:)

The part where the brothers kept saying females were the weaker sex irritated me. I know that this book was set during a difficult time for women, but the comment about women really upset me. The dialogue felt flat; I couldn't connect with any of the characters; and hearing your mind's voice say “By Jove!" over and over again can really make your ears itch and burn.

1.5 I feel like this book just set the women's lib movement back by several hundred years. All the "sweethearts" and throwing the damsel over a man's shoulders to get her to obey and the forced kisses despite the fact that the woman said "no." Oy vey. This was a guilty pleasure choice that just made me feel guilty for wasting the time.

This book is filled with misunderstandings, jumping to conclusions, stupid decisions, overbearing controlling males and a "heroin" who doesn't speak up enough. I promised myself I would stop putting myself through books that annoyed me so much that they made me itch. The first and last book I'll be reading from this author.
