1215 A.D.: The reign of King John means dark days for all of England. Not one man, woman or child lived without fear.

Magnifying this fear is the man they call The Lord of the Shadows - a terrifying figure who sits at the right hand of the King, manipulating the royal moves like a puppet master. The Lord of

This reminded me a lot of some classic Virginia Henley I read years and years ago. English monarchy, court cruelty, and political intrigue abound in this book.

It was an entertaining enough read, although I would have preferred a bit more "interaction" between the H and the h as the story progressed. I don't think this author will become a go-to for me for historicals by any means, but I can definitely see myself reading more from her in the future.

Five Amazing Stars

I was completely thrilled to enjoy this this marvellous wonderful book, Lord of the Shadows. With the wonderful series, The Great March Lord of de Lara. Written by one of my favourite writers, Kathryn Le Veque. This brilliant most terrifying and exciting tale expands during the time of the thirteenth century. This was a most marvellous book to enjoy!!

At the beginning of the 12.15 AD Sean was hiding away so he’d be able to get away from the others that day at his palace.
Grade: C-

Like the allure of a good beheading, it was pure entertainment.

OK, I will admit I was wrong. I WAS WRONG. During the first read, this seemed pretty dreadful, and I even tweeted some snotty things about it.

But after finishing this, I read By Royal Command, aka Death By Thesaurus. And then I read a certain gay BDSM mistorical that will forever be the definition of "dreadful."

So I upgraded Lord of the Shadows from a D+ to a C-. I can’t really recommend it, but it’s a helluva lot better t
Story about the oppressive, debauchery reign of King John which lead to the signing of Magna Carta. Most ofthe characters are real-life historical figures like the Earl of Pemberly, Joceline, and of course the King. Promising enough however,
Lord of the shadows started out pretty-well. I though at first the prose was beautiful and because I've been aticipating it for a whole week, I started reading out loud the first couple of pages. In truth, I am obtuse enough that I may not have noticed what f

Recommends it for: Medieval Romance Lovers, Great Love Stories
Audio Version: Story - 5, Narration - 5

This was a fantastic story! I must admit, it took me about 30 minutes to completely get into it but once I did, I was hooked. I listened in less than a day. I absolutely loved the chemistry between the hero and heroine. Their love is so beautiful and though it progresses quickly it is genuine. Sean de Lara is a most gallant and honorable hero, one to go down in history IMO. There’s much more to him than meets the eye. Sheridan is a marvelous heroine, smart,

I liked this one. The plot exists beyond the 'relationship' and shows King John at his most dire, personally, as well as his unsuccessful attempts to deal with the barons which led to the Magna Carta. Did John 'suffer from a case of "royal schizophrenia" in his approach to government, or did his actions merely reflect the complex model of Angevin kingship in the early 13th century?', Wiki asks. In LotS he's practically evil incarnate, with a side of insecurity. But John, who gets plenty of bad p ...more

***** For some reason the stars won't work for me from my blackberry so I will just say I give it 5 stars. Yet another great book from Kathryn Le Veque. I have read a few of hers now,and no matter which one I have picked I enjoyed it. The history is so well written the characters grab you right away. If real history books in school were like this I for one would have paid much more attention. The romance is exciting and fun. The story in this one shows that sometimes you have to give everything ...more

Sean de Lara could be seen as the villain in this book and indeed some reviewers have said that they didn't enjoy the book because of this, but one has to remember how dark, evil and abhorrent Medieval England was. Sean is caught up in a web of lies, trying to save England from a debauched and deviant king.
People's scruples and beliefs were not the same as they are today and Sean's behaviour, I think is understandable.
Sean de Lara is a hero fighting for England, working towards new changes. He

The great Shadow Lord is (apparently) the champion of Bad King John. In reality....
Well, all characters created by Kathryn LeVeque are rather complicated (unless they are the flatly one dimensional evil ones). This man is no different, and as he moves through the shadows of London just before the battles that led the the signing of the Magna Carta, he makes no sound.
The lady he sees, who steals his heart, is likewise stuck with a complicated role. Still, I confess, her younger sist

Lord Of The Shadows

Kathryn Or Veque has ,as usual , written another fantastic novel. The Shadow Lord is filled with adventures of a Knight for the freedom from the tyrant King before the signing of the Magna Carta to stop the evil madness of the King. Sean DeLara was a spy for 9 years for the freedom cause. He met and fell in love with Sherridan St. James. The love that never dies is theirs for a lifetime. This is a must read for all Le Veque fans.

Enjoyable storyline but unrealistic love story

I enjoyed all of the intrigue that was woven into the concept of the story, namely Sean being a deeply embedded spy in King John’s inner circle. But, The love story didn’t seem as realistic and progressed too quickly. They were deeply in love with each other, in this life and the next, after talking for maybe 30 minutes.

Love over comes all

Beautiful story of a killer who is body guard to the King falling in love with a woman who is an enemy of the King. Another well written Kathryn LeVeque historical romance.

Another keeper! Love her novels.

Main characters are so strong. Weaker characters are a great supporting cast. All of her writings whirl the readers into the time period so realistically. You feel like you are living a dream. 5 stars for sure!!!

It involves mystery, drama, history, romance and intrigue. Another hard to put down book.

Not as good as her other books that I've read. Secondary characters makes repetitive mistakes that the reader questions "Who is that stupid?"

This audiobook review comes with a warning label: If you’re a person who doesn’t like to smudge your mascara, dislike dark, edgy suspense, disapprove of the mayhem and wildness of the Medieval period in England, and hate crying buckets of tears chapter after chapter, I suggest you forego listening to this book.

This is the second book I’ve read by author Kathryn Le Veque and was excited to be able to listen to the narration, produced by Brad Wills. Both book and narration are over the top. Truly,

This was a very well written story, with a lot of history and a lot of action involved in it. Dealing with the reign of John II of England, best known as the tyrant from the Robin Hood stories, and period leading up to the Seige of London in 1215, Lord of the Shadows ends with the signing of the document that would come to be known as the Magna Carta. Le Veque even uses that name in the story, although the document in question did not gain the name until it's second revision, in 1217, and then i ...more

Read as part of the boxed set: Magnificent Medieval Men

I began my original quest of romance as opposed to smut and my search led me to authoress LeVeque. I have already read one story of hers, and looked forward to this one; I was not disappointed.

The Lord of Shadows is a knight of fearsome reputation and even the king he protects is wary of his knight, Sean de Lara. Sean does not like what he has had to do as a spy but much like my beloved Severus Snape, there is more to Sean than a past of sc

I've read quite a few books by Le Veque. This story is very typical of her writing. She draws the reader in to the story, has outstanding historical research and the plots are a bit different than the norm. (At least the books of hers I've read.)

This has a terribly wicked hero who is absolutely not what he appears to be. The heroine needed a little more development I felt. She was supposed to be strong and intelligent, atypical for women of the day, but she came off as flighty.

A Roller Coaster of a Ride

Surprisingly I stumbled upon this incredible story not through Kathryn's website. But am so happy to have done so no matter the convoluted route I took to discover it... In fact convoluted is a term just as applicable to the storyline. Try to read this where you will not be distracted. There are many references and clues interspersed so subtlety that I would without reservation qualify this among the top three(3) Le Veque books ever published (out of the several dozen f

One of my fav Le Veque masterpieces

This was really an exciting and beautiful love story. None of the typical unwilling heroine, fighting with H, jealous ex's, plots that can get old. The couple's supposed opposing political stands were already providing enough conflict and challenges. I love how steadfast their love, respect and trust in each other was. No frustrating misunderstandings and major idiotic decisions by the h except for 1 which thankfully did not end badly. The sister raised the stu

I stayed up till 2 a.m. to finish this baby! It was well worth the drag of the next day. ;) This is the 3rd book by this author I've read and once again I throughly enjoyed it. I like how all of the heroes in her books are all giant men. I just wish if they all got together the author told us who was the biggest. Yes, these are the things I think about when I read! I also would have liked if the hero talked more about his family and how he become the feared "Shadow". His brother Kevin and Father ...more
