Toby has just learned he’ll never see again. Now he’s learning just how frustrating it can be doing even simple things when you’re blind. And it doesn’t help when his big brother Jake, and little sister Emma laugh at him when things don’t go right. But there’s always a way to make things easier… Isn’t there?

Toby’s old world, the one in which he could see, is gone. He has glaucoma, the kind which cannot be treated, and will remain blind. His mother tells him he will be okay, his father tells him he will be okay but Toby is upset and angry. How can things be okay when he is not able to eat without covering himself and his stuffed bear with food? How can things be okay when he cannot find his clothes or his toothbrush? How can things be okay when his brother and sister laugh at him blundering about? ...more

If YOUR little one has, or is developing, a sight problem, this first of a series of stories about Toby, a completely blind boy, may help you and your child cope better and your child become independent faster.
Written by the author, who is blind herself, from Toby's aspect.
Highly recommended.

Victoria Zigler writes an emotional story about a little boy, Toby, who lost his sight. Readers will find themselves immersed in Toby's emotions, from frustration to loneliness to bravery as Toby struggles with everyday tasks. This story would be great in a classroom for teaching differences, predictions, connections, and empathy.
