Sanctum Retribution: Shadow Havens Book 3

Rate this book
As Ilea steps farther into her role as the law of the Demesne, anxious speculation about Sebastien and his next move flourishes. Tensions build, as passion sizzles at long-awaited Matings and Kya’s romantic dream comes true when Meniari asks her to attend one with him. It’s a fresh beginning for a warrior with a past and a female hiding a gentle heart behind a tough persona.

Meanwhile, the Father of the Demesnes is having a grand time in Paris, but intelligence soon arrives from the spy he left behind. Infuriated by what he learns, he embarks on a rage-driven plan to force a brutal wedge between the Sanctum and the Saint Rushton Demesne forever, one that will jeopardize Iridea and her unborn child.

A vampiress on the run from the Parisian Demesne risks everything to find Micah Odera in Scotland, shattering his newfound peace with a strange tale of barbaric punishment, an act of treason that saved her life, a nefarious scheme and Circe’s dangerous fascination with Sebastien. Seeking the protection of the Sanctum, she reveals all she knows to Miriel and Andrieu, forcing the haven into a partnership with the Saint Rushton Demesne.

A desperately precarious plan takes shape, as Xavier struggles with Ilea’s demand that he keep a terrible secret for her. If he breaks his vow, the betrayal may cost him her love. If he keeps his word, she may die. Ultimately, Ilea and Iridea will have a single chance to do what only they can – bring Sebastien to meet fate.

Edenmary Black has been writing since she could clutch a pencil. She has always been fascinated with the mysteries of the paranormal and loves the question all writers answer when they pen fiction. For her, it's all about that magical, "What if?” When not working her keyboard, she enjoys reading and spending time with her family, all of whom are male. She spends far too much on lingerie and is very, very weak for chocolate.

I received an ebook copy of this novel from the author, Edenmary Black, on Sept. 5, 2012, at her request, in return for my provision of a fair, impartial, and authentic review.

Review of Sanctum Retribution by Edenmary Black
Shadow Havens Book 3

In the third entry in the Shadow Havens series, Author Edenmary Black once again rivets her readers with edge-of-the-seat action and passion, adventure and Supernatural culture and society, secrets, revelations, joy and insanity. Ms. Black weaves a tapestry so complex that I must marvel at her ability. A cast of multiple characters, varied locales, and a hierarchy of Supernaturals that is original, creative, and imaginative, populate this series. Although of course I recommend that readers get the entire series, if this novel is chosen first, it can safely be read on its own because Author Black weaves in sufficient backstory for events and persons that no one can fail to be apprised of the background, and can enjoy all of this novel. But why not read all three? You’ll have three times the excitement, three times the enjoyment (and three times the passion, heart-stopping action, and developing love interests!) Readers: if you love Paranormal Romance, if you want your novels flavoured with delicate yet passionate sensuality, if you don’t mind a bit of adult language and credible violence in the context of the story lines, by all means, run, do not walk, to your favourite bookseller and buy this series! Then lock your door and turn off your TV and phone, because you will not want to be interrupted till you’re finished.

Author Edenmary Black possesses the rare ability to weave a multi-layered story with a large cast of characters and never loose her audience along the way. This is the third book in the Shadow Haven series and the wonderful passion between the characters still thrives in this installment. Tensions are building as Xavier is finding it harder with each passing day to keep Ilea's secret. You cannot go wrong with one of Edenmary's books. Between the beautiful world building and captivating story lines, Sanctum Retribution is a must read.

The Shadow Havens series gets better with each book and Sanctum Retribution, book three of the series, is no exception. For those who are new to the series, Edenmary Black provides enough back story so that you will not be lost or confused. However, readers who enjoyed the first two books of the series will get a real treat with this installation. There is more action, more relationships and matings, more conspiracy, more everything than the first two books combined. All of the characters from the previous books are present we get to see how their lives are progressing.

This book picks up right where the previous book left off with Lady Ilea running the Saint Rushton Demesne and she plans to initiate a lot of radical changes. Sebastien reemerges on the other side of the world but when he hears news from his spy at his former Demesne his madness jumps up to a new and dangerous level. Another Demesne is introduced which brings another host of characters. The sanctum welcomes a new vampire who brings them news that will solidify the alliance between the Saint Rushton Demesne and the Sanctum, exactly what Sebastien is trying to avoid.

Edenmary Black has created characters readers will be powerless not to love and others that are so despicable and vile you can’t help but despise them with the every fiber of your being. The characters all have a richness and depth that makes them leap off the page. Their personalities are very believable and match the visual imaginary Black’s descriptions has created.

The Shadow Havens series will appeal to followers of Kim Harrison’s The Hollows series. There are vampires, weres, angels, and a myriad of other supernatural beings living among yet apart from humans in rural Pennsylvania. Readers who like their paranormal romance to contain as much action as it does love, spunky female characters with fearless, chivalrous men to support them, look no further.
