Writing of Roper's poems, one reviewer commented, "empathetic," and another said, " . . . perfect lyrics as to make any writer jealous." One of my favorite poems of all time, " Little Soul" is in this collection. I really enjoy the way this poem reveals a truth that stays with me. And the last line in the closing poem of the collection, "Summer Snowflakes" has an echoing quality that sounds back to the other poems, "that empty gleaming reach."
