I always loved books like this when I was a kid. It was fun to read the actual text of one as an adult, since I usually only looked at the pictures when I was younger. I like history, and this book included ecumenic, cultural, architectural, and technological history from the Bronze age till today.

Gorgeous and meticulously detailed black and white illustrations chronicle the evolution of Lebek, from its modest beginnings as a prehistoric fishing village, to its Medieval heyday as a Hanseatic trading port, to its culmination as a bustling modern city of the late 20th century. I wish Lebek was real, because I want to go there.
