After years of living a double life as a wastrel and a cad, Prince Vaniell has walked away from his position and privilege with only two goals in mind—to save the Five Thrones, and to build a world where mages can live in peace. His greatest enemy in this endeavor? A power hungry king, whose dreams of empire march ever closer to fruition. Melger. The ruler of Garimore. Also known as Father.
To accomplish his goals, Vaniell must travel far beyond the borders of of his own lands to the coastal kingdom of Iria, where he hopes to find clues to the identity of the man who holds Garimore in his sway. What he finds is a tantalizingly beautiful mystery, one he can neither dismiss nor ignore.
All Karreya knows is the harsh, unforgiving existence of a royal assassin—the long, brutal arm of Imperial law. Nearly all her memories are of a walled enclave, and the training grounds she's called home for much of her life. But they trained her better than they knew, and now she is free, with only one mission in mind—to find the father who abandoned her for a new life in Abreia.
Lost in an unfamiliar world, she collides—literally—with the most beautiful, most infuriating man she has ever met. She ought to just kill him, but the secrets he’s keeping are too intriguing to ignore. His magic calls to hers, and somewhere beneath his razor-edged charm is a heart as guarded as her own.
He might be her enemy… or he might be the one person who can remind Karreya that she is more than just a weapon.

My favorite in the series by far! Ever since The Faceless Mage I’ve been intrigued by Vaniell and his double life, so I was very eager to finally reach his book and it does not disappoint!
Just as I suspected he’s so much deeper and complex then the world gives him credit for and I felt so, so much for him and how he’s desperately fighting extremely uneven odds to atone for his past sins and also stop an ever expanding evil and I just love him for his kind, selfless heart. He also takes care of street children which really melted my heart, the softy. 🥰
Karreya I would describe as Rapunzel from Tangled only if she was trained to be an assassin—in other words highly naive and innocent about and towards the world but is really well trained in fighting and killing while not revealing her emotions much, lol. I wasn’t sure how to feel about her at first, but she grew on me and I quite like her! And she and Vaniell are perfect partners in crime who need to be together forever, okay? Okay, glad we cleared that up.
While this is the shortest book in the series chapter wise, from the very beginning we hit the ground running and don’t let up until the very end where I am now very scared for our band of heroes because how in the world are they going to defeat TWO bad guys?! One was bad enough!
Very excited for the final book and to see how everything wraps up!

4.5 ⭐ Oh i had soo much fun, this might be my favourite book in this series so far! Everything is coming together and we are learning more about the different types of mages and the Empire beyond the sea! I knew that Vaniell was going to be my favourite!
Prince Vaniell is an enchanter, he left his life so he can find a way to take down the imposter acting as his father! He was known as useless womaniser and drunk, but in reality, that was only a cover for him to work on his enchantments and save Abreia! Vaniell is described as hot, like the most beautiful man ever, and it is not hard to imagine him, he also is sweet and cute and kind 🥺 i just want to hug him! Also, my heart broke when he was listening with Karreya to what happened to the others kingdoms 😭😭.
Karreya, an assassin from the Empire with some sort of mind magic that allows her to detects truths, she came to Abreia to find her father who escaped 11 years ago 😮😮 yeaaah, it matches perfectly to when the imposter took the throne! Anyway, she is efficient with her daggers, can kill without being detected and with more ways than humanly possible! Her feelings toward Vaniell were so cute, i also like that she didn't shy away from her feelings! Its always nice to see the FC trying to keep the MC safe from danger!
I'm not going to lie, that prologue got me scared! I kept reminding myself that this is a HEA series! Oh and the twist to who Leisa's mother is? That was quite creative!!
Favourite scene is the way Vaniell apologized to Kyrion about the whole Raven thing, it showed how decent he is, even though he likes to claim otherwise!
And now, that fucking epilogue 🫣😱 I'm scared! The hell is going to happen? I really don't think that 300 pages would be enough to cover it all!
I made a grave mistake by not reading the books before this So I was kinda of confused in the middle but eventually I understood what's going on However, It didn't ruin my enjoyment for this book I just would've preferred knowing some things sooner
The book itself was so good the perfect amount of flirting, banter, and action
We have to main characters Karreya & Vaniell
Karreya is a trained assassin (and a badass) Her training was not kind to say the least so she's not familiar with friendships or any relationship in general which makes her harsh with Stab first ask questions later persona
Which is why it was so FUN watching her the complete opposite with vaniell she was like omg why do I like him ?? Omg why is my heart beating like that when I'm around him ?? Omg should I cut off a few of his fingers or an ear, so that I don't find him attractive and stop staring??
It was so FUNNY.
One of my favorite things about her was how loyal & honest she was . And I mean it when she started developing feelings for Vaniell she literally walking behind him like a bodyguard, keeping watch out for anything that might harm him, threatened to kill a man for him,and she saved his life multiple times
Vaniell is our mmc he's coping by humor kinda of guy He was so understanding and thoughtful always making sure Karreya is comfortable and the way he thinks about her makes my heart melt . He made mistakes in the past so he lives with guilt who makes him question his self worth honestly life has been rough with him 😭 I love him so much it hurts
The writing was great I felt connected to the characters which is why ima be running to the next book after I finish writing this review
One last thing is how the author made the scene where they were 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨 so good that I was smiling so hard, kicking, and screaming
The moment I started this book I knew it was a five star read so go check out this series and thank me later.
I thought I had written a review but seeing as I apparently haven’t it’s an emergency I do.
You’re gonna want this book on your shelves.
Kenley Davidson has delivered yet another masterpiece and this one centres around the superficial and insufferable Prince Vaniell, whom we had the (dis)pleasure of meeting in the first duology of the LoA.
This book blew my mind. It was packed with action, intrigues that kept me on my toes all the time and mystery that has yet to be solved.
We also discover a whole lot of the background story concerning Leisa but also the 5 Thrones and the plot is so, so, so much bigger than anticipated.
This series that seemingly started as a cosy low fantasy duology is turning into an epic high fantasy work of art and I am here for it.
All I hope is that Kenley never stops writing about Abreia because it has become one of my favourite book places ever.
CONTENT WARNING:
literally none because the FMC has a very bad temper 😂 but some romantic tension
This one had a bit of a slow start but once you hit the halfway mark, it was a fast and furious action packed race to the end. It was fun to see all the previous storylines converging in this book. I have to admit that it’s been a while since I started this series and that might account for my slow building interest. All in all, a solid installment.
Okay, this book is just awesome, and the series is everything I could want in romantic fantasy with its heavy dose of politics, sacrificial leadership, found family, and romances of true support. I can’t wait for the final book!
A littler slower than the other books, took me a while to get into it, but a big bang ending. I love Abreia and the world which was created. I look forward to finishing the series and then rereading it from start to finish! Also looking forward to more from the Dark Elves and Hopefully the Light Elves

I knew I would like Vaniell once I got to read his story! I knew there was more to him and I absolutely fell in love with him in this story. The way we discover who he is, the hurts in his past. Oh man the emotional growth he goes through towards the end *chef's kiss* it was beautiful!!!
Also who doesn't love an assassin heroine who is actually just a sweetheart with an unfortunate upbringing?!?
Wow. I loved this story. The ending totally took me by surprise in the BEST way and literally I don't want to spoil anything so that's all you get. This was such a fun book and I loved all the little jokes, sweet moments, and yet how the plot thickens!
💋 No kisses in this book 😭 but it is a clean romantasy! That slow-burn.. it's a killer!
⚠️Prince Vaniell goes through a lot and we learn about his past which involved emotional abuse and manipulation. He does a lot of emotional healing. Our other main lady is an assassin who is discovering feelings. After isolation and emotional neglect. Plus all of that fun fantasy sword fighting and stuff
I did not expect to love Vaniell like this. I did not expect his love interest would be so stabby. I did not expect half the plot twists. Color me impressed and also rather emotional about this book. (Just a note, you definitely shouldn't read this book unless you've read the others that precede it: not much will make sense otherwise, although you'll still enjoy the writing style because it's beautiful and witty and funny all at once. )
With that out of the way, I knew that Vaniell was going to be a fun character, but my goodness, he's so much more than that in this installment. Yes, he's the bad boy prince, but he's also such an absolute cinnamon roll. He needs a hug and someone to tell him that he's loved...and also perhaps some therapy. The author handled his trauma, guilt, and motivations near-perfectly; my heart ached right along with his when he faced troubles again and again while trying to stand up to his father. Oh, and did I mention he's adorably flirty/snarky? This man might be my new favorite Abreia hero, I'm just saying...
As for his love interest, Karreya is most definitely an assassin through and through. She's not very well acquainted with the world, and much prefers to stab first and ask questions later. Her grumpy, blunt personality won me over in time, and although Leisa is still my fave Abreia heroine, Karreya's softness towards Vaniell and her strict moral compass makes her a solid leading lady.
On the plot side, all the action comes to a head here, even though Vaniell and Karreya aren't as in-the-thick-of-it like the other couples were. Loose threads are pulled tight, secrets are revealed, and there are several serious plot twists. (One of which involves tea, and I was very very much worried about it. You'll see what I mean.) Although some of the plot twists were a bit more obvious than I'd expected, I still enjoyed it, and it neatly pulls in details from the last few books. And you get a few cameos, too... ;)
Overall, this book was an absolutely killer follow-up to the last one. I was hooked from the first page, and I loved the dynamic between these two MCs. Eagerly awaiting the next one—5 out of 5 stars!
My love for this series continues, and what a joy it was to finally really get to know Prince Vaniell. In the first few books, he comes across as arrogant and all kinds of awful. Through Danric and Evaraine's stories, we catch a small glimpse that he might not be what we think. But this book obliterates all of it and made this reader fall in love with his character.
Faced with impossible choices, Vaniell and Karreya find unlikely allies in each other. Watching her grow throughout this story is heartwarming and provides an accurate picture of what it looks like to rebuild when you realize life the way you've lived it isn't the only way or the right way. Kenley's ability to craft witty banter really shines through with these two, and I'm looking forward to more of it as I learn how the story ends in book six.
Over this series, I've been impressed by the cohesive worldbuilding and interconnected storylines of all the characters. There were a few twists in this one—one where I literally gasped out loud and spoke the truth about one second before the narrator revealed it. But I will leave that for you to discover.
I'm a little sad I'll be leaving the Kingdom of Abreia soon, but I'm so grateful to Kenley and her superb characters for inviting me on this journey.
If you are reading this review and considering this series do not hesitate, it's so good! However, do yourself a favor and read the series in order as there is so much going on in this series that you will miss out on how amazing it is if you try to pick it up in the middle. Don't worry it is absolutely worth the time investment. If you are anything like me you will fly through the books and then be dying for the next one!
I have been anxiously awaiting Vaniell's story and I was NOT disappointed! The plot and character development in this book were outstanding! The author handled Vaniell's emotional journey with a deft hand. I loved Karreya's fierce character, she won me over.
I don't want to spoil anything so I will just say I can't wait to see how this series ends. It has quickly become one of my favorite romantic fantasy series. I don't know how she does it, but Kenley Davidson could probably write a phone book and make it a page turner!
In this fifth book in Kenley Davidson’s Legends of Abreia fantasy romance series, the reader gets to learn more about the elusive Prince Vaniell of Garimore, who has been somewhat of a mystery in the previous books.
I’ve been dying to know more about Vaniell since the very beginning, and “The Uncrowned Prince” really delivered! There is so much more to Vaniell than I was expecting, he’s definitely a tortured hero and I’m absolutely on his side.
Another important character in this book is a mage and assassin named Karreya. I really enjoyed Karreya’s personality, and I loved that she was the furthest thing from a damsel in distress. She and Vaniell had the best snarky banter as well!
I don’t want to spoil anything, but what I will say is that this series is very addicting, and the plot twists will make you want to scream. At this point, I am thoroughly invested, and I’m both excited and scared to see how it ends.
Half of the book seemed like a colossal waste of time. We already knew what happened while the characters tried to figure it out for half the book. The last thirty percent or so of the book was when you finally got to the meat of the matter. That being said, I like the two main characters in this one far more than the other two. I also like that we finally found out the mystery of who Leisa’s mother was. I’m a little baffled that Leisa and her husband have the time to travel so much with their titles. The romance between the prince and assassin also happened quickly. I’m glad there’s only one more to this series and had I known how downhill it gets, I probably wouldn’t have even read them in the first place.
The penultimate book in the series shifts focus to Prince Vaniell and a new character with some . . . interesting . . . connections to others in the series. As "Melger" moves forward with his villainous plans Vaniell is striving to find answers that will help in the fight against him when he meets Karreya, a beautiful and deadly woman with a mission of her own. Again we are re-united with a smattering of characters from earlier books and meet plenty of new ones too. There is plenty of adventure, mystery, intregue and romance in this wonderful read that ends all too soon. While not super cliffhanger-y there is a lot left unresolved heading into the climatic final book.
This is my absolute favorite book of the series! In her beautiful way, Kenley Davidson makes this story come alive with characters that become alive to you, and not just words on a page. Prince Vaniell takes your breath away with his emergence as who he truly is, and prior to that with his kindness, courage, and integrity as Niell in his hidden life. Karreya is a strong new female character who plays and will play a key role in how this all turns out. Later we meet more beloved characters from prior installments of the series and the scene is set for book six. And that epilogue-yikes! Escape from whatever you are doing and read this book!
This new instalment in the Legends of Abreia series was masterfully done with just the right amount of romance and character building. The plot continued on from previous book events nicely as well. Vaniell was already an intriguing character starting with his debut in book one but this is where he gets his time to shine. And how he does! Karreya is exactly the right match for him and it’s both comedic and heartwarming. One of my favorite moments was watching the protagonists of prior books meet these new ones, how it played out was so satisfying. Especially given the potential conflict. I’m very excited for the next book!
This book focuses on a new couple who overcome past fears and learn to trust each other in preparation for the upcoming battle and the hopes for a better future. This sweet romance is filled with plenty of banter. I fell in love with the characters. The world building was captivating. The entire storyline grabbed my attention and held it from beginning to ending. Wonderful book!
“So many tangled webs that wove them together—webs of pain and lies and sacrifice—with one man in the middle.” “There was but one path forward for him.”
Karreya & Vaniell & lots of secrets The author knows how to weave a story full of intrigue, adventure, and interconnecting relationships. I loved Karreya’s child-like interest in learning about new things, people, and cultures; she seems so innocent in spite of being a highly trained assassin. I enjoyed seeing her growth. I also enjoyed watching the development of the relationship between Karreya and Vaniell. Vaniell has been playing a role for many years, feeling isolated because of his many secrets and not knowing who he could trust or who could help. I can’t wait to see how all the secrets are revealed and hopefully peace is established throughout the land.
While I liked getting to know Prince Vaniell and Karreya, I also missed the characters we know and love from the other books. Since there was an Evaraine chapter early on, I thought we would get to see more of her, Danric, Leisa, and Kyrion. They all make an appearance, but not enough for me. This book felt more like a setup for the next one. There is more relationship building and only one major discovery/reveal. I'm wondering if this could have been edited down and combined with the last book. I do like Prince Vaniell and Karreya. They are both interesting, complex characters who make look out for others. I just wanted more to happen in the book.
Such a fantastic book. The stories in this world are ALL amazing and the wait for the last one is like waiting for Christmas. Lol
In order to better pick up back-story in this book, I think I should have reread at least the previous book. However, I am doing a series reread before the finale later this year, so that will take care of the gaps in my memory.
This book is clean romantically, and has light violence. We see death and fighting, and while there is some blood, I wouldn’t say it’s gory.
This book picks up exactly where book 4 left off. We find out more about the Second Blade and the bloodlines of the Empress. The wastrel prince's story opens Prince Vaniell up so much and digs into the details of all our favorite characters. Can't wait to read how this ends!! If you love world building and character development, this book is for you!
Rated 4/5 only due to the romance needing a little more and it would be awesome if the author gave a recap or summary of the last books events since there is so much going on.
I love the suspense and the twists. Even things you believe you may know...you'll have even more surprises to them and their revelations. Its a joy to be surprised when you think you've got things worked out and another facet is shown. Low heat and mild descriptions of violence. Kenley Davidson works magic with her words and I'm so excited to read the next book and find out more. The only downside to one book left in this series is that I'll have to find another book to read.
Loved reading about Karreya and Vaniell almost as much as Kyrion and Leisa’s stories!!! Vaniell was such a sweetheart and a lot of fun, brave and strong and his teasing and wit were awesome to read!!! Karreyas strength yet complete honesty and vulnerability were absolutely refreshing after reading about soo many MFCs that are strong and yet complete jerks and it’s supposedly ok to be that way (it’s not)!! Can’t wait to finish the series yet sad it’s coming to an end!! Also love that Kyrion and Leisa are in it too 😁😁😁😁
It was so interesting to learn about Prince Vaniell’s character and his motivations, especially after catching only glimpses of him in the earlier books.
Now that we have the final villain revealed I can’t wait for the last book!
My favourite quote from this book about the female protagonist while she was trying to blend in with the crowd: “You can dress a storm cat like a sheep, but no one will make the mistake of expecting it to eat grass.” Tickled me immensely :)
I restarted this one a couple of times. It is very meaty! Amazing story! Vaniell's story. And we meet a new heroine, Karreya (I'm pronouncing it Carrie-uh). I'm not sure if that's the right pronunciation. Niell is off living his life all around Abreia as he sees fit. However, dark plots are emerging. At the same time, Karreya shows up. Coincidence? Maybe. You'll have to find out for yourself! There's a ton of action and swash-buckling adventure in this one as they traipse around Iria looking for would-be assailants. And real assassins too! We encounter some great new characters and learn a lot about Niell since he's been gone from Garimore. This tale is riddled with intrigue. And some familiar faces make a smashing cameo!! Some mild profanities, lots of blood, no gore, clean. Cliffhanger. Book 6 is out in a few days, thankfully. Not sure I could wait very long for this one without going stir crazy!

Audio edition: This series continues to get better and better. This story features the missing prince, Vaniel, and an assassin, Corea, who is looking for her missing father. Unexpected mayhem and attraction draw the two together until an unexpected encounter reveals too many secrets! This book sets up for the finale to come in book 6, so yes it is a cliffhanger and readers should start with book 1 to truly appreciate the characters and story world that Ms. Davidson has built.
Assassins, spies, and a twist of romance!? Kenley Davidson will always leave you hanging for more. And the best part is you’ll never see it coming….
All Karreya wants to do is find her Father and drag him back home to face her royal highness before her aunt makes her queen. But instead she is shocked to learn that not everything she has been told is true…. And her power is actually good? But the Prince also has plans one, that may or may not be beneficial for her…
This not only lives up to the Legends of Abreia’s intrigue and excitement, but The Uncrowned Prince’s twists and turns soars the series to legendary status. I have loved Kenley Davidson’s writing from the first chapter, but her use of wit and illusion on this book had me in awe. I cannot wait to read the conclusion of this adventure.
Contains: some violence. It took me a while to finish reading this book, mostly because I was in the mood for something lighter and it was pretty obvious in the beginning what was going on. This is a lot of set up for end game stuff which I assume will happen next book. I liked the MCs though and I’m glad that Vaniell got to meet up with some people from his past.
