Firenze (Florence), Italy -- 1497
Historical figures: the Borgia pope, the mad friar Savonarola, and Machiavelli are woven into a story about a brave, young, aristocratic woman looking for the person who murdered her mother. She enlists the help of her Irish maid and a young nun as they search for answers.

Question: I never understood the meaning of the title of the book.

No sex
No graphic violence

This mystery/thriller totally drew me in and didn't let me go until I'd finished. The author paints an excellent canvas of detail and intrigue. It makes me wonder if he actually travelled to Italy for any of the research. A strong set of female characters carry the story from start to finish, and leave me wanting more.
