Any Next Generation fans reading this review? Think about the difference between Riker and Picard. They're both awesome, but very different. This book is more of a Picard. I don't know if that makes sense, but it makes sense to me so I'm putting it in my review. ;-D

This book was a fortuitous find for me. I had to take my high school kids school shopping, and it was at the (in my mind) dreaded, massive Indooroopilly shopping center. Bluck. But as we were walking past a bookstore, I saw an author ...more

This was a fast paced, rollicking adventure in the best of classic space opera tradition.

This is a really hard book to describe for me. I grew up loving science fiction - as it was at the time, these days we would call it space opera. Stories of fantastical adventures, stern but true heroes and add space ships and I was sold. This story speaks to all that in me, but I am no longer fifteen and I am a much more critical reader than I was.

Tzurac is a planet in a federation of six planets now known ...more
I had never heard of the genre Space Opera before this, but I have to say, it fits the book! Sentinels of Tzurac could have been an episode of Flash Gordon; the original black and white version. I half expected Ming the Merciless to pop up at any moment! Theres no subtlety here its all about world domination and universal peace. I love this melodramatic style.

What I also loved is, this is a complete story; beginning, middle and end. All the loose ends are tied up at the conclusion; no frustrating ...more
I had the privilege of meeting James Raven several years ago at an event for local authors. The impression I got was of a very sharp, very friendly individual with incredible attention to detail and enthusiasm for his story universe. This was mirrored in my reading experience. Raven's universe is carefully considered and evidently planned out, a future of realistic advancements and probable scientific developments. As with any good, solid sci-fi, concepts in genetic science, physics and engineering ...more
This space opera is very fast-paced, definitely action driven. With the ease of plot and readily identifiable bad guys, this story felt like an old friend. While predictable, it was easy to fall into and simply enjoy the tale. Kyron is an honorable man, a hard worker, a considerate fellow so of course I wanted things to turn out well for him.

Of course, the other side of the coin is that there wasnt really anything that wowed me. You can spot all the good guys because they are polite, well spoken, ...more
Immigrated to Australia with my "ten pound pom" family in the early fifties spending my boyhood in Victoria. Family moved to South Australia at the beginning of my teenager-hood. Followed all the sci-fi TV series e.g Star Trek, Lost in Space, Dr Who, Time Tunnel. And then in my adulthood followed all the Sci-fi movies, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Star Gate, etc. Have always loved English Literature ...more
