Flashes is the first in a new series of YA paranormal crime novels in which a 17-year-old girl cannot help seeing glimpses of dead people who seem to want her aid - much to the consternation of her boyfriend, who has just started work for the local CID.

Now I knew there was a reason why I did not read novella's or short stories very often - because I just start to get involved with the characters and then it is over. This author can do do wrong in my eyes and his latest book was no exception. It draws you in and Charlie is such a likeable character who sees dead people (or those that soon will be anyway) and watching it happen in real-time would be frightening. Tom's involvment in the case and his meeting with Charlie had me hopeful that he wil ...more

'Flashes' was originally released in three instalments as a hugely successful e-book. Now appearing in print for the first time, I'm not sure if I would have been able to stand the suspense if I wasn't able to sit down and consume the whole book in one go. It was utterly gripping and a brilliant addition to the YA crime genre which keeps getting hotter and hotter!

British author Tim O'Rourke's day job is a policeman which meant that I felt assured from the start that all the details about the pol

My favourite genres of YA and crime are perfectly blened in "Flashes". The novel jumps straight into the action of the story without need for unecessary build up of the characters, and Charley is an immediately likeable character. As her flashes coincide with bad things happening, and once she has met PC Henson, the pace ramps up even further as they desperately try and work out who is the baddie behind the killings. The novel is well plotted, with little clues hidden througought the text, and i ...more

Cover & erster Eindruck: Dieses Cover verwirrt mich.

Vor ihrem inneren Auge, sieht ...more

I have waited at least a year, maybe two, for Flashes to be published. I, as well as Tim's other fans, shared the joy with him when he signed with the major publishing company, Chicken House. To say thanks for having such dedicated fans, Tim acknowledged us in Flashes. That's 3 pages of fans that he included. Tim is such a kind and kick-ass author author! Thanks Tim!!

3.5 stars.

This is something like my sixth/seventh, maybe even eighth, book by the author and I've liked some more than others.

He always writes different stories, stuff I've never seen or read before, and blends paranormal, a bit of horror/gruesomeness and a splash of romance. His books tend to be very English in language and setting, and being from England and reading most books set in America, they're a nice change.

Now for the story. I had an inkling as to who it might be from about the 60-70%

I liked Charley from the very beginning, she’s a strong character. Her flashes have meant years of online taunts and bullying and the book begins with the funeral of her only friend Natalie. Tom makes an equally good first impression.

The story narration between both characters which I liked. Sometimes I felt the style was a little abrupt but this worked to the books advantage at the end of the story (during the big reveal) by adding to the tension. Which brings me to the murder hunt, I

Tim seriously! How can end a book like that! Talk about leaving you hanging. So after reading the Keira Hudson prequels I already felt as if I knew Tom, (he s still living of McDonald's I see!). He's finished his police training and just been posted with CID, investigating an incident when he meets charley. Charley sees things through 'Flashes' another brilliant book by Tim.

Flashes part one is finally here after waiting for forever to read this book, as Tim has been teasing us for along time with news and snippets of this book.

As always with Tim's books this was fantastic, fun, full of mystery solving which Tim is so good at creating in all his books.

I love Charley and Tom who this book focuses on and their working together as a team to try and figure out Charley's 'flashes'

I feel so sorry for Charley with what she has to go through when she has her 'flashes' and n

I enjoyed this book it was different from the other books out there that share the almost identical plots. The story has a few small twists and turns that kept you a bit surprised.
Though I liked it was very predictable and easy to figure out who was the killer. The author tries to keep it where the clues could be anybody but then slips so they are like a big neon arrow pointing to them.
Overall a good book and one that was hard to put down.

Flashes was OK. I liked the idea of the crime solving aspects of those flashes, it was, unfortunately, very predictable. I guessed who the murderer was around page 70 (which is quite unusual for me) and the rest of the book felt like an endless wait for the main characters to finally understand who the wrongdoer was. The fact that the plot was so predictable is the reason for me giving this book only two stars.

Too bad I knew who it was almost all along... also, the ending was a bit harsh and a bit too fast in my opinion. But it definitely was a gripping, fast-paced story that I thoroughly enjoyed!

Bought this book at BBW 2 years ago. From the first time I laid my eyes at the back of this book, I knew this one a rare gem. And how beautiful it turned out to be. The storytelling was so great, I couldn't move on from reading it. Every timeline got me wanting more. I love how TB uses two person in self perspective to narrate the entire story. We can feel and comprehend the emotions, how they're thinking and judge from their eyes.

A really wonderful book. 4 stars from me.

I really wanted to give this book a higher rating as the premise seemed so intriguing, but I guessed the ending straight away. I still enjoyed reading it though and it had a lot of suspense. The chemistry between Tom and Charley was great to read. I've read some of Tim O'Rourkes books before, but this has to be by favourite despite the obvious ending.

Not too bad but quite predictable. I could tell by the first few pages who the killer was.
The behaviour of the main female character was very strange as well, especially towards her father.

Buchgestaltung:

Mir gefällt das Cover ganz gut, hat so was Mysteriöses. :D
Ich finde das ja lustig, dass man den Titel von oben nach unten lesen muss. Jeder, der das Buch gesehen hat, als ich gelesen habe, hat "Sieht niemand was was, sehe ich" gelesen. xD

Meine Meinung:

Ich habe mich eigentlich recht gefreut, als das Buch dann endlich ankam, da ich mit Chicken House doch bis jetzt immer gute Erfahrungen hatte.
Und ich wurde auch nicht allzu sehr enttäuscht.

**Warning: Contains Some Minor Spoilers**

Flashes by Tim O’Roarke was an enjoyable read for me as there was a lot to like about it.

One: the voice. MC Charley has a great voice that is easy to read and reflects her personality well, aiding the reader in an instant connection for a fast paced read. She also has issues in the form of what she calls Flashes, but are actually some kind of post-cognitive ‘visions’ of people about to die. But her ‘sight’ has limitations—because she seems only t
