I've been dipping in and out of the poetry since I received this book. It's a beautifully expressed poetry, from a poetess based in the states...

Its a definitive read, it makes sense. It's poetry as I want poetry to be, rather than the incessant clamor of a institutional education.

If you like an intelligent poem, then this is the one for you! It doesn't depend on the long words, yet isn't afraid to use some from time to time... It stretches the reader in places.

CURSE FOR A MAN I TRAVELED WITH WHO LEFT ME ALONE IN CAIRO

May you forget Egypt, the blue nights

the temples to the gods lit like ceremonial fires across the shore.
May you never again imagine the shape of a goddess.
May you remember only the lips
of a camel drooling its refusal
to bend down and let you climb on its back
for the last of the journey up
Mount Sinai. And may you forget
the density of the stars,
the moistureless

I really enjoyed reading these poems; in fact, I read through it twice! The descriptions of the travel experiences were vivid and gave me a real feel for the various locales. The thread of "love having gone wrong" which was evident throughout the poetry was poignant and something that I think most of us can relate to. I'm looking forward to more from this author :).
