AMAZING. AMAZING. AMAZING.

Kimmie is such a lovely character. Finds out she has a father after 18 years of her life is definitely not something easy and Kimmie wants her daddy back. So it was simple, she's going to meet her father and spend summer before collage with him. Oh, but life had another plan, so he mixed Mason in the story.

Lovely story about two individuals who at first try to fight their feelings, but as always love beats everything.

First 35% of the book was good enough. Later than that..it was arrgghh..!!(I felt like pulling my hair out!)

Here are a few instances that did not agree with me at all:

1)There is talk of giving a 12 year old space to come to terms with a shocking and unwelcome news she's just received .Well,in my opinion, twelve year olds in such a situation need a lot of hugs and someone to hold them as they cry!

Holy Blazing Campfires, Beach Bunnies!
Well, it's safe to say that Tiffany King has done it again! Tiffany is such a sneaky lil writer too…she knows just how to get under your skin without you even realizing it. You are just rolling along enjoying a Unlikely Allies and then BAM! you are staying up waaayyyy past your bedtime leaving tear stains on your kindle as you devour the final pages. (I even had to re-read the ending just to be sure it really happened, which then made me cry AGAIN.)

Well Tiffany King has done it again!!!! I truly LOVED Unlikely Allies. I felt that this book sucked me in, she made me feel the same feelings the characters were feeling. I thought Mason and Kimberly were great together. I liked how their relationship didn't start off that strong. They worked at their feelings and built it up over time. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone. This one will definitely have a spot on my favs shelf:)

I have yet to be disappointed by a book of Tiffany King’s so far. I’ve read both Wishing For Someday Soon and Forever Changed earlier this year. They both blew me away. This book lived up to this author’s previous standards.

What I was initially drawn in by was the characters. In the first few chapters that’s what kept me reading the most. Kimberly, the main character, is very likable. I especially like the artistic side she has. Through this, King was able to capture the beautiful settings in the novel.

There were many characters that I fell in love with. One of them was Amy (of course). When the reader meets her, it’s hard to not like her. She reminds me of a character out of Gilmore Girls. Since I love the fast-talking, eccentric, always a great friend personality of characters like Rory, Lorelai, Lane, and Sooki…Amy was a perfect match for a reader like me. I also really liked Rick. The story could have gone a different way, if King had given him a different personality or reaction to the situation at hand. I was surprised and pleased to get to know the loving man and new father that is Rick.

Since this book is set mainly in a summer camp for kids, it is only natural that there are great younger characters as well. Tiffany King seems to have a natural talent for touching the reader’s heart through these young characters. In her past books this is true, and she’s done it again in Unlikely Allies. These kids have gone through a lot in their lives. They are all children who are in the foster care system and haven’t known stability much. Camp Unlikely Allies was established to try to give children like them an opportunity at enjoying life and growing up.

Alyssa is one of the young characters that really touched me. She’s very closed off from others. She always has a wall up to everyone. The reader gets a little background on her and that’s when I wanted to just give her a huge hug. There’s a certain part of the story in which I was close to tears because of this little girl. That’s something King is also good at. Grabbing the reader in an emotional tractor-beam and playing with their hearts.

Now about the setting. It was a welcome change from earlier King books I’ve read. Most of it takes place in the mountains of Colorado. I’ve always wanted to go there myself, and the picture painted in my mind was beautiful. I think everything that’s great about being in the great outdoors enjoying nature was touched on here. While I don’t live in the Colorado wilderness, I do live in the wilderness for the most part, and I could picture myself easily going through some of the struggles that take place in Unlikely Allies.

What’s the main reason we’re here though? It’s not the characters or the setting is it? Maybe. I know a few readers will have picked this book up for the romance as well. AND the adventure. Both those elements are in this book. They actually go hand in hand. I was left baffled at times with the interaction between Kimberly and Mason. I questioned the relationship between them the entire time. It’s one of the reasons I had to keep reading. I needed to know who was going to strangle the other first, haha.

The struggled that they both go through later on in the book was great as well. I don’t know if King has been stranded and injured in the woods before, but I think she has written a very believable account of what it’d be like. I was left on edge the whole way through wondering what obstacle was going to arise next. Whether it was physical or emotional, everything kept me sympathizing for the characters.

I can’t say any more. There’s just so much greatness in this book. If Tiffany King wasn’t one of my favorite authors out there already, she’d have made it on the list with this one. I’m eager to see how other readers enjoy the book once it’s released. ...more

I adore Tiffany King. As a person, and as an author, so I had a good idea going in that I would enjoy this book. But I wasn’t prepared for just how addictive Unlikely Allies turned out to be.

This book kept me walking on the treadmill for a lot longer than I had planned (double win), and staying up way too late at night to squeeze in a few more chapters before finally crashing and dreaming of mountains and trees and hot, arrogant men.

Yes, my subconscious aged Mason to a more acceptable age for a I adore Tiffany King. As a person, and as an author, so I had a good idea going in that I would enjoy this book. But I wasn’t prepared for just how addictive Unlikely Allies turned out to be.

So let’s start with Mason. I loved this hero. He came from a hard background, but didn’t let that define him. Even when he was picking on Kimberly, you knew from all the other characters that his behavior toward her was unusual. He genuinely cared about all the other campers and especially for Rick, Kimberly’s dad and Mason’s foster father. Of course the boy was hot, but what drew me in was his protectiveness, especially during the second half of the book.

And oh, the second part of the book. I enjoyed the first half, the set-up, getting to know Kimberly better, watching the relationship between her and her father build, and the friendships that she made with the other camp leaders, but it was the second half of the book that had me pounding the keys on my Kindle, needing to see what happened next. Ms. King pulls out all the stops when Mason and Kimberly are stranded in the mountains. You get a MAJOR swoon factor, you get danger, suspense, tender moments that had me teary-eyed, and conversations that make you laugh.

I’m an emotion girl, a character girl. And when an author can get me to fall in love with the characters, and gets me to experience the full range of emotions with them, they skyrocket to my favorites list. And this book did that. It also taught me a lot about wilderness safety and survival skills. Knowledge that I hope I never have to put into practice, but hey, good to know.

Kimberly was a fun heroine to live the story with—she was smart, artistic, funny, and had a good heart. Her relationship with her mother was complicated, but understandable, and perhaps because Tiffany is a mother herself, she handled it respectfully. The mom made a major mistake, which was the inciting incident for this whole book, but she took ownership of it and in the end made up for her faults. Rick was perhaps my favorite character. He was a strong, caring dad who didn’t always see eye-to-eye with his California girl daughter, but he was always looking for that connection, that way to bond and show he cared, and their conversations about CW shows made me smile. The rest of the book is fleshed out with a wide variety of characters you get to know and truly care about, and I found myself hoping this would kick off a series of books. I’d love to know more about all of the friends she made in camp and during her first semester at college. One boy in particular (*grin*).

I recommend Unlikely Allies to anyone looking for a captivating read that will pull at your heartstrings and inspire you. It was fast-paced and fun and I know I’ll be reading it again in the future. If you’ve never read any of Tiffany King’s books before, start with this one…and then start playing catch up! You won’t regret it. ...more

This is not your typical YA novel. Although I wouldn't normally pick it out myself to read it, I heard great things about it and wanted to see for myself.
I read it in one sitting. It's fairly short, and Tiffany King's writing keeps you engaged the whole time.

The first half of it is great! Wonderful pace, interesting characters, great dialogue.
I especially loved Amy and Rick.

I was really drawn in by the characters. There are several characters that are very much easy to love.

Kimberly (and it was my first encounter of a character having a name of Kimberly. Just saying.) was very likeable. Though she was skeptical about meeting her father she still finds her way to make it to her father's camp all by herself; Meeting her father's people and doing the things that he does. It's nice seeing her make an effort and not holding any grudge to him. And as the story ends, her maturity and growth become significant.

Mason is really a maze for me. I can’t quite figure him out. His attitude can get out of hand at times and tends to tick me off. But his continuous banter with Kimberly was pretty fascinating. Their interaction with each other was funny at the same time very much heartfelt.

Then there's Amy. Since meeting her at the beginning of the story, I begin to really like her because it’s really hard not to like her. She's very eccentric and talkative but always a great friend who would always help you.

The concept of having a summer camp for kids was pretty touching for me. These children all came from different foster care systems and haven’t known what stability means. The camp Unlikely Allies, which were established by Kimberly's dad, Rick were a great help for those kids.

The only thing that is really not so great is the tragedy that happened. Of course, who would love tragedies right? It was believable okay, but seeing people suffer and sad and all was really disturbing for me, but seeing that this tragedy only make the people on the story stronger, I get over it eventually.

Unlikely Allies was an okay read. The tragedy isn’t that heavy and the plot was okay and the characters are great but there’s this just something that I can’t point out that I think was missing somewhere. I’ll check out other works of Tiffany King and see if it would still evoke same reaction from me as this one. Yay! :) ...more

Unlikely Allies was a fun, fast read with a lot of great elements: it's a family drama, an adventure/survival story (think Hatchet, but with kissing), a coming of age story, and a sweet romance.

MC Kimberly (don't you dare call her Kimmie, buster!) is pretty stunned, angry, hurt and, yes, curious when her mom tells her shortly after her 18th b-day that, by the way she does have a Dad after all. Her mom's kept Kimberly's existence secret from her long ago lover Dad, and vice versa, for reasons th Unlikely Allies was a fun, fast read with a lot of great elements: it's a family drama, an adventure/survival story (think Hatchet, but with kissing), a coming of age story, and a sweet romance.

MC Kimberly (don't you dare call her Kimmie, buster!) is pretty stunned, angry, hurt and, yes, curious when her mom tells her shortly after her 18th b-day that, by the way she does have a Dad after all. Quite a change up for the artist chick from a beach town who doesn't especially like kids. And then there's that jerk, Mason, the arrogant quasi-son her Dad seems to have taken under his wing. Why does he seem so determined to drive Kimberly away, just when she's making friends and getting along so well with Dad and the campers. And the most irritating thing about him? She can't stop those tingly-tangly feelings of attraction that make his hostility all the more hurtful. But the ground literally falls out from under her feet when she and Mason are sent into a storm to find a missing camper, and things go downhill fast. Can she find the inner strength to survive and overcome the physical and emotional challenges their new situation presents?

Kimberly is a great character, resourceful and strong, with a good sense of who she is. But it's when she is thrown into some tough and challenging situations that her true colors are revealed and she steps up and grows up, in touching and real feeling ways. She's not a perfect kid, by any means - her relationships tend to suffer from her unfiltered mouth and super snark. But that is part of her considerable charm. Mason, the hottie you love to hate, also reveals his depths as the action develops, and there are some sa-woon-o-rama moments for sure. But the course of true love never did run smooth, and there are obstacles and hurdles in their way, some extrinsic, some the product of pride or pique. How they overcome them, with the help of some really well developed and charming side characters, makes for a touching and tender conclusion to this lovely YA read.

what a fantastic start this book had? I actually thought I am gonna tag with "in-dreamland-state" 'coz that is for major swoon-worthy books only. I loved this book. It was a sweet romance (which Ms. King does very well) and I finished it in almost one sitting. I really hate when my job gets in the way of a good book.

A few things bothered me(hence the 4 star review) One, I felt Mason lacked depth. I wanted more from him and his past and while he was a great character, I just felt he lacked something. Absolutely couldn't put it down! I particularly loved Kimberly and Mason--all the characters, really! It was refreshing to read about really nice, good people, trying to do the "right" thing! Even though Mason was prickly at first, we understand why he's like that. Really well-fleshed out, interesting characters to root for, and a compelling plot that keeps you turning pages, long into the night!

I loved the relationship between Beach Bunny and Greeky! The sass and sarcasm between them in the beginning was hilarious; I love when Kim asks Mason if he orders manuals on being an a**hole or does it just come naturally...all the characters in the story are likable especially co-counselor Amy! Unlikely Allies was full of great characters, realistic dialogue, twist, turns and a Greek God hunk!

I think this was my favorite of Tiffany's books. It made me cry in the dentist's office! It struck me to the core because I've worked with foster kids...I've seen that hard shell, so to read about a place that helps them? Loved it! Good work!!

I've been a Tiffany King fan since Meant to Be, so naturally I had to get my hands on Unlikely Allies as soon as possible. I finished it the same day I received it. It was that good, on par with the rest of her novels if not even better!

This incites a whirlwind of activity for an angry Kimberl I've been a Tiffany King fan since Meant to Be, so naturally I had to get my hands on Unlikely Allies as soon as possible. I finished it the same day I received it. It was that good, on par with the rest of her novels if not even better!

Eighteen-year-old protagonist Kimberly has never know a thing about her presumably deceased father--that is, until the day her mother informs her that he is alive and just as much unaware of her existence. This incites a whirlwind of activity for an angry Kimberly, who impulsively takes off to meet the man who should have spent every day up to now with her. However, just as soon as she lands in Colorado, Kimberly realizes that she knows just about nothing about her father, the manager of summer camp for foster children. For California girl and "Beach Bunny" Kimberly, spending her last summer before college camped out in the Rockies is not at all what she expected, but she's up for the challenge. The question is whether the environment, the children, and above all, former-camper-now-counselor Mason, will make or break Kimberly's resolve.

Kimberly is one of those female protagonists I love reading about. She has a lot to deal with, but she manages to the best of her ability. She also has plenty to prove both to herself as well as the other people in her life, but she doesn't back down when obstacles arise. In short, Kimberly's a fighter. At the same time, she still reacts to certain situations just like any adolescent would. She's a true human character with real emotions and real struggles. Opposite Kimberly is the absolutely infuriating but undeniably charming Mason, who has quite a background as well. Once you learn about his past, it's easier to understand why he acts the way he does. I found that Kimberly and Mason were perfectly compatible, much like pieces of a puzzle.

The storyline in Unlikely Allies caught my attention because it was so unique. I don't know about you guys, but I've never read a YA contemp that centered around a summer camp. As someone who has attended one before, I found myself reminiscing over all of the little tidbits and memories from my experiences as I read about Kimberly and Mason's adventures. Of course, theirs were far more unpredictable *hint hint* but entertaining all the same. I loved that I really didn't know how it would end until the very last few pages.

Whisked away from California to the Rocky Mountains, she is in for a “rude awakening,” but in my opinion, Kimberly handles herself extremely well. Though she doesn’t necessarily fit in with those around her, she shoulders the animosity of some campers/staff extremely well, while quickly making friends with others. I really enjoyed her happy-go-lucky attitude, and though I’ll say the book moved a bit faster than I would have liked (I so wanted more of Mason and Kimberly), I really loved every moment of it, especially the witty banter.

Mason, nicknamed “Greeky” for his Greek god physic and attitude, is to die for. Though he is downright nasty in the beginning, I found his search within himself to be extremely real and well written. Mason’s life hasn’t been peaches and cream, and the appearance of Kimberly brings extreme thoughts of jealousy to the forefront as, in my opinion, they should—we’re only human, after all, and if someone walked into my life and laid claim to the only person who’d kept me grounded throughout everything I experienced, I’d probably react the same way Mason does. But with time, all things heal, and I loved watching both Kimberly and Mason fight their attraction only to realize their true feelings for one another… though the timing couldn’t be worse as they’re thrust into a battle to survive… (and I just loved this… my heart was in my throat for the remainder of the story).

King’s story is highly engaging, bringing to life not only the characters, but also the Rocky Mountains. I’ve never been there, but through the descriptions of the wilderness and the harsh realities of an unforgivable terrain, I was easily able to imagine it every step of the way. I love novels where I’m drawn into the scenery as much as I am into the characters’ lives, and King achieves both in this latest release.

There she makes new friends and discovers things about herself she never knew. She also meets Mason, "a blonde-haired, shirtless, oh-my-god-he's-too-hot-for-words stud". Although she feels an attraction and pull towards Mason, she finds he brings out the worst in her and he seems to take an instant dislike to her.  Kimberly and Mason eventually find themselves lost and fighting for their lives in the vast Colorado wilderness. There try must relay on each other in order to survive.  When I started reading this book I was already so excited as I have been waiting for what seems like forever for this book to come out, that I was unable to put it down. I told myself before I began reading this that that's what I would do, and thats what I did, but it ended up I was unable to put it down because it was just that good!!! Even when I could barely keep my eyes open I was to entralled to stop! This is Tiffany's finiest work yet! I loved it! I may be a little biased because I just adore Tiffany's work and she is my favorite author! But she's my favorite for a reason! I have read every one of Tiffany's stories and each one is better then the last. She grabs you right from the start, dragging you into the story so deep nothing else around will seem to matter until you've read the last page. Even when it's finished and you have closer you'll still be wanting more! This story gives the reader everything you would expect from the wonderful Tiffany King! Follow Kimberly as she's thrust into the most dangerous situation of her life! Will Kimberly and Mason survive and end up whole in the end? Please grab this book and read it! You will not be disappointed! I have to star 5 stars just is never enough for a Tiffany King story! And this one is no exception! 10 stars! I loved it and I am impatiently waiting for what Tiffany writes next! It won't be soon enough!!! Thank you Tiffany King for yet another fantastic story and dare I say your best one yet!

Kimberly was a character that you couldn't help liking! At the beginning of the book she's put in a situation where she learns she has a father she's never known about. So what does she do? She goes to see him! If I were in her position I KNOW I would be crazy nervous. And she was too. But once her and her father meet each other the relationship they have is seriously the sweetest thing ever.

One thing I thought was super cool was that Kimberly got to help out at her Dad's summer foster camp. And

But once her and her father meet each other the relationship they have is seriously the sweetest thing ever.

One thing I thought was super cool was that Kimberly got to help out at her Dad's summer foster camp. And I was pretty jealous because, to me, that sounds like one of the funnest things ever. To Kimberly, not so much. But that will change! While at the camp, Kimberly meets Mason. And don't let that name seem insignificant because TRUST ME. That guy is definitely important.

At first, you will find Mason to be one of the most infuriating, arrogant guys you've ever read about. But don't you worry your pretty little book reading heads because there will be a change of heart. I can't tell you when, but it will happen. And when it does happen it's probably the greatest thing ever. You'll also find yourself really liking him while you hate him. Difficult emotions goin' on there. And Kimberly is in the same boat the reader is in. And while she hates to admit it, there's definitely some chemistry.

WHEN Mason and Kimberly finally do get on the same terms when it comes to how they feel about each other, it's super sweet. The bantering back and forth was beyond adorable and there were many-a-smiles comin' from me when they were together. But there were also some pretty deep moments. Especially when they are stranded in the mountains with some pretty terrible injuries. They both have to rely on each other to get back. But don't think it was all heavy sad stuff! There were also times in that situation where you had no idea how they could be so upbeat. But I'm glad there was. :)

There will also be times in this book where you want to yell at the characters and tell them what to do. But alas, without the stupid decisions, the ending wouldn't be as perfect. I can't tell you what made it so perfect because you must read it!

This book had it's adorable moments but then some super heart felt moments. I loved every page of it. I recommend to contemporary romance lovers! Because if you're like me, you will LOVE it!

When I first started reading this book, I was somewhat reluctant and doubted I would like it all that much. But a few chapters through, and I was totally loving it! One of the most beautiful books ever read! I enjoyed it so much! It made me cry, smile, giggle, chuckle, got me annoyed when either Kim or Mason acted stupidly, got me worried when they were stranded and sick during the rainstorm, got me angry and sad and annoyed when things between Kim and Mason didn't go well after the accident...

I liked Kimberly a lot. A tough girl, passionate, brave, stubborn, sweet, determined, and with that touch of sarcasm that made me smile so often. A kickass heroine!
At first, I didn't like Mason very much, instead. He mostly treated her bad and was a jerk. It all changed the night of the accident. Then I got to know some of his traits that I liked. And he was good for Kim. Until something-I-can't-tell-you happened and he got back being a jerk again.
But the eding surprised me and pleased me.
And there were some hot scenes in the cave... I thought I was going to burn! Wow!
I immediately liked Rick too. A lot! He's a very nice guy and he cares a lot about Mason, Kim, all the kids and Kim's mom.
Kim's mom, Kate, was okay. Just a tad bit selfish maybe, but a nice woman.
Amy was so cheery and sunny and sweet and lovely! I liked her immediately too. And loved the way her friendship with Kim started out, it was like Friends At First Sight. Very sweet! Very different from Kim's friendship with Car. I don't know, I didn't see sparkles there. They were so different. I loved to see Kim and Amy laugh and get crazy together, instead.
Brad and Dan were cool guys too. Very nice. Both of them. And real friends.
Parker, Lyssa, Quinn, and some other kids I can't remember their names were also amazing. I'd like to read more about the characters of this book. I pretty much liked everyone. There was no hateful chick hitting on the good guy, no hateful guy hitting on our heroine. There were no villains in general. And for a change that was good.

This was the second book I read of Tiffany King's. I have to say, the first I didn't like at all, but this was a complete 180 for me and it made me want to read more after I read this one. After I finished it, I proceeded to buy and read almost all of her other books.

There were definitely things about this book that I didn't love, like the way Mason treats Kimberly when she gets there and how mean he is to her for no reason over and over for a lot of the book. She did a great job of writing it though because I found myself really hating him for a lot of the time. I also didn't love how fast Kimberly went from hating him to liking/kissing him. I wanted her to be a little more sensible than that...or for there to be more of a reason for her to start liking him and then wanting to kiss him, not just because he was hot. But I did love the relationship Kimberly had with her dad, how it was awkward at first (because of her never knowing him growing up) and then how it grew and progressed. I really liked her art classes and the way she felt bonded with her students. I did like the way she described the accident and how they dealt with being lost for so long together trying to survive. It wasn't fluffed over and there were a few things that were pretty gross, but again were very believable for what happened to them. And though I didn't love what happened with the characters for the last 3/4 of the book and when the thing happens at the end, I was happy, but also thought maybe she (Kimberly) should have been a little more mad about the situation instead of just being so happy so quickly. It's hard to say exactly what I think about the situation without putting spoilers in here. But I do wish she would have given him a little bit more of a hard time for what he did instead of how she reacts to him. I guess I can see where she would have reacted the way she did, but it could have been a little longer with a little more resolve after the turmoil of the last couple of chapters. I recieved this book as an ARC for review for The Indie Bookshelf blog.
Let me first mention that I am not a YA reader, normally. I usually stick with contemporary romance or sometimes paranormal books. Having said that, i feel this book was very well done. Kimberly and Mason were both very likable characters and the tension between them was palpable and delicious.
