Reading Janice Lane Palko's books is always a little like visiting home for me. She captures not only the physical setting of Pittsburgh well, but the characters too. People who, in my mind, speak and act like the people I was surrounded by growing up, from their down-to-earth frankness to their uniquely Pittsburgh quirks and cultural Catholicism.

A Little Help from a Saint?
I was immediately drawn into the story which shocked me because this is a first time author. The style flowed more like it was from an established author.
In the style of Chick-lit she does a wonderful job of showing us a flawed character who wants romance but doesn't want to be a doormat or blindly in love. The male lead is established sufficiently to entice the reader and also leave enough to the imagination. The tension between the two of them is well-played out and ...more

St. Anna is a fun book to read. It's good to pick up when you are feeling down or whenever because there is a lot of funny stuff going on. Peg one of my favorite characters made me laugh the hardest not holding back her opinion and what she thinks is what is right. She is a sly wise one that gets what she wants.Ann, she grew on me. I liked to get to know her story and she would make an awesome friend. Ann was born to take care of people and you can tell that it is was she likes to do. Gerry is a

This book was cute. I loved Peg. I want to be as awesome as her when I'm old. Gerry was hot. Anne was adorable. I liked that Gerry and Anne had a 10 year age difference. Added something different to the book and I believe love has no age limit so that was nice to see for once. Claudia can fall in a fucking hole and just die along with whatever Janetta's ex-boyfriend's name was.
Yep, cute love story. Could have used some sex... ;) BUT it was still a cute love story :) <3 ...more

When I got to the end of this one, I didn't cheer at the (mostly) happy ending or sigh at the poignant part. I just felt relieved that it was over and a little annoyed with myself for sticking with it when I knew I'd just be glad when it was over. The writing wasn't too bad and there was a bit of action mixed in with the romance. So why didn't I get sucked in? I strongly disliked all of the characters, particularly the main couple. We are introduced to a hot headed woman who nearly hits a comple

This is an easy and okay read against the backdrop of Pittsburg about a fiery nurse, Anne, who fell desperately for the son of her patient, Gerry, though he had commitment issues and she was hurt badly from a previous relationship with a similar type of a guy. She could not help being attracted to these hot bed hoppers though she was pursued by a steady, reliable doctor, Craig. The banter between Anne and Gerry was cute and flirtatious but I found it unrealistic that she expected Craig to propos

Another assignment for agency nurse Anne Lyons brings her more than she bargains for when her elderly patient's son turns out to be every woman's dream.
Vying for her heart is an old flame and a promising catch returned with a tempting offer. Neither man knows the secret guilt Anne will need to resolve before committing to either of them.
Great tempo, character development and story-line. For dear St. Anne ... read this novel as soon as you can. ...more

I loved the characters in this book. They felt so real. And I love that it was written by a Pittsburgh author and set in Pittsburgh. Can't wait to read her 2nd book.
