Recommendation : If you are looking for a fast paced, dark Steampunk novel snatch this one up. It will keep you interested from beginning to end with plenty of steam to go around.

Steampunk BABY! You know me and I love Steampunk. I have to say that this book was a quick, tasty read.

Broken Promises happens to be the second book in the Seasons of Invention series, however, I skipped over the first book and went straight to this one. I have to say that after reading it, I found it to be a
I really enjoyed J.K. Coi's novella Far From Broken when I read it last year but at the time I had no idea that it was the first book in a series. So you can imagine my excitement when I saw that her latest release Broken Promises featured the same main characters Jasper and Callie. When we first met Callie she had undergone extensive surgery to save her life after she had been horrendously tortured by Jasper's enemies. With a new mechanical eye, hand and legs Callie lost her identity as the wor ...more

BROKEN PROMISES is the continuation of Callie and Jasper's story that started in FAR FROM BROKEN, which can be found as an individual novella, or in the anthology A CLOCKWORK CHRISTMAS. The first part of their story must be read, in order to understand what goes on here. Callie has had to give up her dreams of being a ballerina and learn to live with the new mechanical limbs she possesses.

What drew me to J.K. Coi's writing in the first place is her abilit

This is an older book that I'm certain I read, but it looks like I never reviewed it. I re-read it this afternoon, and it's got a really good Steampunk world. Broken Promises is the second book in the series of a husband and wife who are coerced into working for the War Department, and who need to recapture a rogue agent. But it seems nothing more ever happened beyond these 2 books.

Callie was a ballerina who, at the end of the previous book (I'm assuming. It seems to

Worth reading if you've read FAR FROM BROKEN first.

Jasper and Callie Carlisle have been to hell and back as they've re-established their bond as husband and wife. A former ballerina, Callie's new mechanical parts saved her from death but have cost her her dreams. Though she'll never dance again and the babies she one day dreamed of raising with Jasper are gone, there is much she still can do. But a series of glitches in her mechanicals brings to light the flawed science of her enhancements, and

I wish I had read the first book in this series before I grabbed this one but it was still at least enjoyable.

Callie was an interesting heroine in that she has had almost everything taken away from her but she still keeps fighting. She's got a husband who loves her and just needs to finish coming to terms with the mechanical enhancements that have kept her alive.

Jasper turns out to be a good man that has a lot of guilt for what happened to his wife. He's a really strong man but knowing that his
