Ok, so technically I should have hated this book. There were at least three things that usually make a book groan worthy for me - Instalove (gasp!), guys talking about their feelings (ugh) and lingering exes..but somehow the book just worked! I LOVED Connor and Riley. Their relationship, though it wasn't the slowest one ever established, felt natural because the author was sure to include details about their busy lives. They grabbed time when they could and this made the progression natural. I couldn't even roll my eyes that they were thinking 'relationship' so soon. I liked Connor's need to be dominated and even though it was extremely light stuff, I was glad that Riley was willing to give him what he needed. The doubt and constant need for reassurance was slightly overdone, but not enough to give me hives which is rare. At least they didn't descend into full teenage girl status...or maybe they did...but they were at least in their late teens. Whatever, don't judge me. :-)

Though they are an interracial couple, I think Connor's mocha skin is mentioned once or twice and never again. If you missed those two mentions, you wouldn't even know they were an I/R couple. There is no distinctive attraction to Connor's dark skin...or race related angst.

All in all, it's a good, straightforward read that I enjoyed. Looking forward to Erick's story.

My first mistake had been expecting too much from this novel. It had the potential (like so many others before it) to be a good novel, but fell short. The only thing that saved Ms. York from a single star rating was the fact that despite everything wrong with it, she does have a decent writing style.

I'll start off with the good. Texas Hard is Ms. York's second book in her Texas Soul series. Despite this, it isn't hard to figure out what happened in the 1st book. She does a wonderful job of filling you in and even foreshadows for the follow-up.

In Texas Hard we follow surgeon Dr. Riley and Texas Ranger Connor. They meet with a literal bang. Connor is trying to bring in a suspect, when they're in a car accident. Riley is on the scene by serendipity. Things don't start off too great when Riley and Connor start fighting. One explosion later, they're on their way to the hospital with the suspect dead and Connor in need of care.

We flash forward a few months, Connor bought a plot of land by Riley's. There just happens to be a lake there that Riley likes to skinny dip in. They meet again under not-so-great circumstances, but instead of duking it out with fists, they give into their 3-month long desire and have kinky oral sex outside. First thing that popped in my head was protection. They failed to use it, and you'd think with Riley being a doctor he'd be concerned about STDs.

From there we basically proceed with a hodgepodge of plots all thrown together. For about 80% of this novel I didn't know what was going on. It was a slow drag of nothing. The interesting parts consisted of about %10, and that wasn't the last bit when things finally came together in this chaotic blend of stories.

I had been hoping that this would touch on multicultural issues, but despite Connor being an African American and Riley Caucasian, there was nothing multicultural about it. So if you're looking for something that delves into a deep note of ethnicity and cultural, mosey on along.

We basically see instant love between Connor and Riley. Ms. York tries to mask this over by repeating several times that 'I don't believe in love at first sight' and 'this isn't love'. But they then admit it pretty early on and jump into a serious relationship right after the first suck. I'm not a fan of these kinds of stories, so maybe that was my mistake. That was my first turn off. I mean, they're in a relationship for a week-or-so and they already discuss moving in?

Ms. York takes us around in circles with a tug-o-war of childish emotions where her characters act like teenagers instead of grown mid in their thirties. Lane, Riley's former attraction and love, is with Gresh. They show up and stir problems between the new lovebirds. While Riley and Connor struggle to sync schedules, Connor battles his jealousy over Lane. We then get some weird thing about Riley's name (maybe it was from the 1st book, but honestly I didn't see the point).

At one point Connor finds Lane in Riley's bed and freaks. Now this is where I really lost interest. If a guy I just started dating slams me in the ground and chokes me (even if I did cheat), I'd be done. Then to go and threaten that said offender. Yeah, I'd be saying peace. Instead Riley explains the misunderstanding and continues to profess his undying love.

That's the basis of the story. We get a bit about Erick, a member of the Rangers kidnapped that Connor is trying to find. That was the interesting part. But when things could really get good with Erick's rescue, Ms. York skims over the action and Erick is miraculously back. From there we have Erick in love with Connor. Connor's ex back (which was RANDOM) and a happy ending where everything is PERFECT.

I skimmed the sex scenes towards the end. Ms. York dabbled in LIGHT BDSM in the beginning, but that was dropped about halfway through.

I honestly skimmed the last %25.

Her biggest issue is she had too much in there. She'd be going with one thing and then drop it. So much could have been done, but it all came together in an ugly, poor-edited mess.

Yes, that's right. On top of everything else this story was riddled in mistakes.

I think with some fleshing out and editing this could be a good story.

Oh, and on an ending note: I HATE LANE. He was a spoiled brat and I wanted him to die.

This is one of those sequels which are more interesting to me because the villain (or, in this case, jealous jerk) from book one becomes one of the main characters in book two. I am always fascinated how seeing things from that character's side suddenly clarifies the situation and explains some of the issues I had with him in the first book. And even though neither of the main characters is a cowboy, Lane and Gresh are still there, and actually, Lane and Connor are so hot together, adding the cowboy factor might have made the book spontaneously combust.

There's two ways to look at this book...if you look at it as an erotica novel it's actually pretty good. If you look at it as a law enforcement novel, well yeah...not so much. Is this book hot...OH HELL YEAH! Riley and Conner are definitely H. O. T. together. They burn up the page and the erotic scenes are well done. But the actual plot of the story is overly contrived and the sheer number of guys obsessing over each other and setting up an innumerable number of pseudo love triangles is a little silly.

So this is totally a case of insta-love, followed by mind numbering can't live without you and domineering claiming stakes. I meet you on the side of the road at an accident and yet all I can think about is wanting you in my bed. The next time we meet by accident and it's I never want to be with out you, with of course the obligatory ending up in bed together immediately. Now that's not to say that the connection between Riley and Conner wasn't strong. It was. It just doesn't stem from anything. I like them together as a couple, they fit well, but there's no actual development of them as a couple. They meet, they're in love, and want to spend every waking minute together.

Of course we have to then add tension with all the old love triangles and new love triangles being bandied about. I think the only one that doesn't make me shake my head is Erick's situation. But other than that it's seems like most of the men in these stories are not only gay (it's MM I expect that), but have this whole random, "well I'm gay, you're gay, and thus I'm going to obsess over you as if you're the only person I could ever be with" thing going on. At least until they meet the one they're supposed to be with and then it's their turn to have random other gay guys obsessing over them for no real apparent reason.

Still there is some plot to be had here and takes it out of the realm of PWP and puts it into erotica with some semblance of story. I felt for Conner as he was looking or his friend. He was agonizing over what had happened to Erick and wanted nothing more than for his friend to be alive.

All in all this is one of those books that if you're in the mood for something steamy is worth the read, but is really a fluff piece of delicious licentious behavior with domineering men staking claims all over the place. Hefty plate of jealousy anyone? :)

Loved this. Riley and Connor have great chemistry. I could just see them bumping chest, all angry and sexy. The sex was smokin' and I enjoyed the plot. I have to say that Lane and Gresh are jerks but that's just my opinion. It was like they were unconsciously paying Riley back for all problems he caused earlier. Erick just broke my heart and I can't wait to read his story. I hope Sterling is in it, too. :)

Note: This review is for the series and as such, does not contain a lot of detail about the plot because it would be way too spoilerish! If you want to know more about the specifics of each book, check out the blurbs.

The Texas Soul series consists of six books which I pretty much read back to back.

The series starts with Texas Rough which focuses on one couple, Lane and Gresham, and is largely set on Gresh's family ranch where Lane is the foreman. It also introduces another main character, Riley, who falls hard and fast for Lane. This first book is fast moving with lots of multiple storylines. There are themes of coming out and comfort/hurt with large amounts of drama and even larger amounts of sex!

The second book, Texas Hard, focuses more on Riley as he deals with his feelings for Lane but meets and falls for Connor who is a Texas Ranger. This story brings in some elements of bondage as Riley takes a more dominant role in his relationship with Connor. Falling in love happens so quickly, as in the first book, that it is hard to believe that Riley really knows his own heart and it is amazing how open these men are in discussing their feelings! Once again, lots of drama, largely driven by insane amounts of jealousy as the story and relationships get complicated. I liked the story but did find the edition of the book I was reading had some annoying editing/spelling issues. There was also reference to speaking "Brazilian" in Brazil. I thought they spoke Portuguese.

Texas Twist sees things get even more complicated. We are introduced to a new romance as Connor's Texas Ranger partner moves to the ranch to recover from the trauma of his abduction. He falls for Sterling, one of the ranch hands. Sterling finally acknowledges he may be gay as he has such as strong reaction to Erick. The believability is a bit lacking as his actions dont seem those of a relucant gay man. He is pretty physical with Erick, demonstrative and once again discussing feelings. This new relationship is not the primary focus of the book. The Lane/Gresh/Riley/Connor relationship plays a really key role in this book.

The soap opera feel continues as Jung-Hwa "Jump" joins the story in Texas Branded. Jump comes to the ranch in search of his father. He not only finds family but finds love with the local deputy. The love in the story is sweet and gushy with poetic language and once again this couple are very open with their emotions, articulating their feelings for each other. The relationship development also continues the theme of fast, fast, fast - love and proposals all happening really quickly. The relationships of all the previous couples continue to weave in and out of the book and things really ramp up with a cliffhanger ending! Luckily I didn't have to wait and could launch into the next book straight away. If I'd read this book when it was first released and had to wait for the next book I would have been really annoyed as I don't have the patience for this kind of thing!

Texas Desire is the fifth book in the series and the drama hit new heights. Lots of heartbreak and angst, hospitals and deathbeds, emotional declarations, rejection, pain and loss. The new couple, Kip and Jamie, play a role but largely take a backseat to the more emotional story line being played out between the original four characters.

And finally, Texas Legacy concludes the story. Once again, there is very much a soap opera feel to the story with the overlapping stories of each of the characters. There is lots of heartbreak but also happiness as new love is found and families started. It was nice to see the final conclusion and know what happens to each of the couples. The epilogue jumps ahead ten years and provides closure. My main issue with this final book was the resolution of the story line introduced in the prologue. The prologue deals with the previously unknown and unrelated Wild Bluff Ranch and then the character from the prologue turns up later in the book in a relatively stand alone fashion with a story line that is unresolved. I now understand from the author's blog that this will be a spin off series but when I first ended the book the inclusion of the story line seemed a complete mystery to me.

So overall I actually enjoyed the series. It was pure escapism and really over the top at times. I have mentioned a soap opera feel but I think I must have been in the mood for reading something like this and I quite enjoyed the drama, the romance and the complications. Probably my main complaint (not that it is really a complaint as such) was that it was too full of sex. There seemed to be sex on every second page! The guys just seemed to alternate between sharing deep emotions and then doing each other.

I was also totally impressed with the price point, each book in the series only being $0.99 from Amazon.

3.5 stars for the series

Won't you skinny dip with me?

Full of twist and turns it will keep you on your toes. Very gripping from the first page. I could have strangled Gresh and Lane and their interfering but not did the author keep the series evolving around them. I loved how Connor and Rylie where able to really trust each other and tell them everything. Instill think Fresh and Lane had something up their sleeves.

This is probably the hardest one to re read. Simply because I know what’s coming and am shouting at Conner. He is one of my top three favorite characters of this series. The whole series is a must read. Have tissues handy and buckle up because it is the Mindbender roller coaster ride.

Good

I liked how quick paced this book was, lots going on with complex characters. I was kind of distracted by Erick and I got all excited about a love triangle. I would definitely read more of this series.

Enjoyable but it didn't grip me. The MCs had some smokin' sex talk and smexing; there is decent friction at the very beginning, but the whole package wasn't fulfilling. The couple from book 1 (Texas Hard) were just annoying for all that I understand the author had to tie up a loose end. I was more interested in Erick :)

iley is leaving Lane and Gresh’s commitment ceremony, his emotions raw. He runs upon an accident and stops to help being a doctor. He has a confrontation with the lawman there, not only does he want to hit him but to …well other things to him too. A month or so later Riley is taking a dip in the pond next to his property when a man confronts him. It is Connor the Texas Ranger; he hasn’t been quite able to get off his mind. Things lead from confrontation again to Riley getting to… well what he wanted the last time. Things move very fast for both men but both schedules and pasts get in the way. Are Riley and Conner a match made in heaven? Are their busy jobs too much for a relationship? What about Lane and his hold on Riley? Who is Erick? Believe me if you like twists and turns and super-hot mansex you will want to buy this and find out!

I am such a big fan Of Sara York and especially this Texas Soul Series. I haven’t been reading too many westerns until this, now I am so hooked. I love the modern day setting, with realistic modern cowboys. This book was even better than the first of the series, and I couldn’t have imagined that happening as the first was awesome.
Omg this was so fast paced so many twists and turns, all the characters these and the ones from the first book are so wonderful and exciting. There is nothing else I can say but how good this book is. It made me laugh, it made me smile, it made me gasp, made me say OH My gosh so many times!! I am on pins and needles for the third. And fourth and hope there’s more!

Recommendations: I highly recommend this book to everyone that loves a good M/M romance. Especially if you like cowboys, Texas Rangers (law enforcement not the ball team), twists and turns, interracial coupling, super ,super down and dirty mansex. Did I say hot cowboys and hot mansex?

It's a nice book by itself. However, I have to evaluate it as part of the trilogy as what happen later would seriously affect the way you see the characters in this book.

The following review covers the Texas Trilogy (as the author herself calls them). The reason is they're closely related, wrapped in the third book.

The entire Texas Soul series, by Sara York, is amazing!!! It's the first mm series I ever read and it will always remain one of my all time favorite series.

The series starts with Book One - Texas Rough, where we get to watch Lane and Gresh fall in love. And, I have no words to explain how much I love these two men!

Gresh is the rich and powerful ranch owner, who never expected to fall in love with his foreman, Lane. But fall he does. And hard. He has to fight off the town's new doctor though, as Riley also has his eyes on Lane.

This book is perfect! It completely sucked me in and I had to read the whole series within a couple of days. I could not get enough of these men. And, luckily, the series continues to take place on the ranch, so we continue to see Gresh and Lane in each book, both in and out of their bedroom. As well, each book adds new characters to the ranch, and we get to know them all well.

Rich ranch owner, ranch foreman, doctor, ranch hands, and more. This series has it all. Sex in the open, cowboys coming out, danger and more. There's injuries, jealousy, some swapping, and oh so much fun.

Sara York manages to deliver some extremely memorable and steamy scenes in each book, including one of my all time favorite sex scenes. Just a little fun with two couples swapping. Yummy!

Basically, if you haven't read this Sara York series, do so now!

I liked this story of Riley and Connor and was glad Riley found his man. I thought the whole jealousy thing was a bit overplayed but I guess it's all part of the deal with Connor's past. I still liked them as a couple. We get to see Lane and Gresh at home in this one as a couple which is nice. I am anxious to read Erick's story and I think it'll be a good one. He's been through a lot, so his road won't be easy at all.

There were some editing problems in this one (like stints - when it should be stents and wrong character names) and the medical stuff is pretty far out - cardiac surgeons do not take ER shifts. It takes a really long time to finish surgical residencies and you don't go back to doing gallbladder surgeries (total different specialty and residency) so kind of unbelievable in that way. But I still like Riley :D

Texas Ranger Connor and Doctor Riley (his last name, you have to read the book to find out his first and middle name because I am not revealing it) Get together in this sequel to Texas Rough.
We meet up with Gresh and Lane. Connor is very possessive of Riley and goes into a rage at the thought of Riley being with anyone else. not only do we have this drama, but Erick, Connor's work partner was Kidnapped by a cartel and held captive and tortured for information for about a year. He is rescued and then when he get back to the States moves into Connor's Houston Apartment when Bradley, Connor's Ex, tries to get back with him. Erick Declares his love and Riley is also there. Riley is the Sane on and get Bradley to leave and helps Connor to gently break it to Erick that while they are willing to help him recover that Riley and Connor are a committed couple.

I really liked this book, moreso than the first one. I love how Riley and Connor met. The sexual tension coming off of them at the accident was palpable. It was nice that they were both big guys. I love that even though Connor is black, a big deal wasn't made out of it.

The sex was hot. I like that Connor wanted to be tied up and bossed around. But he was still strong. Loved when he pushes Riley up against the wall. Like that they were both versatile too ;-)

There were some things that I rolled my eyes at but . . . oh well. Did not like how Lane was playing games with Connor. I guess they are setting up the stage for a foursome. Can't wait to see how that plays out.

Liked the mystery aspect of the plot with Erick. Seems everybody and their mama wanted a piece of Connor. Nice!

I liked this one a lot better than the first.
It didn't go into crazy people trying to kill them for no apparent reason...which helped greatly.

It had some good steamy scenes. If your going in, for an easy read, with some heat...then this is pretty good. If your going in for an involved story line...keep looking.

The story was entertaining. Lane and Gresh are here too. The attraction between Lane and Ryder is still present....but I'm glad Ryder is getting over Lane.

I was rooting for Ryder and Connor. I'm still not a big fan of Gresh.

I really love the relationship that continues to develop and strengthen between Lane and Gresh, but am concerned that Riley may continue with his pursuit of Lane. Even the love he professes for Connor, a hunky Texas Ranger, doesn't seem to stem his feelings.

At the end of the book, Gresh and Lane both professed their love, or attraction, for Riley and Connor. I don't see this 'openness' about their feelings leading to a good place, for any of them. Especially since 'the Riley Factor' is still there. I hope I'm wrong.

Book 2 of the series. This one is about Riley and Connor. Riley , we met on book one Texas Rough. Connor is Texas Ranger and is in the middle of an accident when they saw each other first. After two months they see each other on Connor's property. The relationship is plaque by the influence of Lane putting doubts in Connor's head. They declared their love. Also in this story we meet Erick , Connor's partner at the Rangers who had been abducted. This story ends with Connor and Riley's love promises but no epilogue ... We will to see what's next.

Loving this series, Virgin Bluebell! Yeah I'd never reveal that to another living soul either if my parents had been that cruel to me.
Conner & Riley, wow and there was me thinking that Gresh & Lanes story was hot, the passion between Connor & Riley is off the chain! Just when you think you have the plot figured out, Sara throws you another curveball and takes the story somewhere else.
Absolutely freaking love this series.

Sara York's Texas Soul Book 2 is a wonderful story. Texas Hard tells Dr. Riley and Connor's, a Texas Ranger, story. They meet at an accident scene while Connor is on a case. Then we get to see how they work on their attraction inspire of each of their crazy schedules. Sara keeps us connected to Crazy Hills Ranch and the events moving along there. Loved the twist and connections that continue in this series. Now on to Texas Twist

Series review.

Some parts were better than others, and for a lot of this series I was cursing and wanting to throw my iPad, but I read the lot. I still can't believe I did (a wee bit of skimming involved - don't think i missed much). Like a train crash—needed to see it all play out for some godforsaken reason. The end of book 5 had me so close to giving it a 1, for the lot, I was so cranky! But seeing as I was drawn along for the whole ride I will average it at 2. But it was JUST okay.

These guys were so sweet that I just wanted to crawl in bed and snuggle with them. Nice story with no angst. I didn't read the first story in the series but the talked about it enough that I didn't need to. Riley and Connor hit it off from the beginning and they easily, fit together. Don't let the cover fool you, that is not a woman. Lol

I didn't know this was book two in a series when I read it. It is not successful as a stand alone book, because so much time was spent revisiting past characters and establishing sequel bait in new ones. I found it frustrating walking into this book without having read book one. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had read the first book.

Another hodgepodge storey, although it is nice to see Riley as more than the evil one trying to steal Lane. There is so much potential if the characters were flashed out a bit more and the book completely told both stories the thriller/cop and the small town love storey. I really was never vested into either since there was so little of both.
