One of the aspects of my job that I love is running kids literary events. Once a month we run a kids book club, aimed at primary aged children in an attempt to engage with and widen their reading experiences. In January my colleague and I ran the book club based on the Atticus Claw series. I hadn't read any, so thought I should have a go at least one!
Atticus is a pretty cool cat. He goes from a life of crime and loneliness to being a crime fighter with a family. The villains, in the form of some

Funny and so good! A story about a cat. What's not to like?!

Atticus Grammaticus Cattypuss Claw is a well-established, and quite possibly the best, cat burglar in the world. One day, whilst chilling in Monte Carlo, he is rudely interrupted by an edgy pigeon with a message. Atticus is offered a big burglary job in the town of Littleton-on-Sea by as of yet unknown employers. Little does he know that this will lead to Atticus readdressing his profession, becoming a part of the Cheddar family and being framed by some spiteful, yet dim, magpies hell bent on co ...more

Atticus Claw Breaks the Law by Jennifer Gray is a story about a couple of criminal masterminds that belong to the animal world, a cop who’s desperate to get a promotion and a couple of kids who would do anything to shed light on a mystery.

The first thought that crossed my mind when I saw this book was: this sounds fun. And it is fun. But, it’s also thought provoking, deeply human and, unavoidably, feline.

Meet Atticus Grammaticus Cattypuss Claw, a cat unlike any other. Atticus is a thief and a co

I received this book for my honest review...

This is a fantastic book for all the family, its full of fun and excitment and the kids couldnt wait to hear what would happen next.

Atticus Grammaticus Cattypuss Claw is a "cat" burglar. He receives a message to go to Littleton-on-Sea to meet with the person wishing to hire him. So he sets off to England to meet with this mysterious boss. When he gets there he meets Jimmy the boss who is a magpie. Yes I know a magpie hiring a cat to steal for him. St

I loved this book. I thought it was pretty much the perfect MG novel. I loved that the animals had their own world and talked to each other (but the humans couldn't hear). And the set up was perfect - first we meet Atticus, then the baddy magpies and then the hapless Cheddar family - and then they are all brought together in a tale that is funny, warm and pacey. I liked that Atticus was presented with a moral dilemma - the greedy life of the cat burglar he has always known or the love of a good ...more

Atticus claw breaks the law by Jennifer Gray. Atticus claw breaks the law is about a tabby cat who is always spelling trouble.
Atticus has been hired by a magpie gang to steel from the magpies enemies the humans.
When Atticus finds a nice family is a life of crime really for him cause Atticus doesn't want to be a prison cat.
This book is mostly for 6-10 year old boys and I would give it a 10/10 rating.

I read this to my 7 year old son. I think maybe he needed to be a little older, but he did enjoy it. I only say he needed to be older because it didn't hold his attention completely like some shorter books do and we kept having to come back to it after a few days off. However, he did like the story. I think it was well written, not a classic, but not hard for a parent to read either. The kids will love the different animal characters. My son was particularly fascinated by the villains of the boo ...more

A great book! Yes, I really enjoyed it. Atticus Claw is a great cat despite his dealings with the magpies. Children will like this one.
This was a delightful tale and one I'd recommend for children and the young at heart. I fell in love with Atticus Grammatticus Cattypus Claw from his first appearance. The book had me it stitches, especially the magpies who seemed to get the best lines.

I didn't know people were still writing this kind of charming fantasy. Will certainly be looking out for more in the series even if I have to sneak into the Children's Section of the library to do so.

Err... blame it on the cover? *looking sheepish* Hehe, it's just too cute to ignore.

A brown tabby with a fancy name - Atticus Grammaticus Cattypus Claw. And he is the world's greatest cat burglar.

I really liked his catchy name.

My 8yo and I really enjoyed this story. Lots of opportunity for sound effects too, although my throat was hurting with CHAKA CHAKA! (Magpies !)

Short chapters and it held his attention very well.

We are looking forward to the next installment of Atticus' adventures!
