This book has been on our to read list for quite some time and is a short and incredibly pleasant read. The book is comprised of a collection of short stories which are told from the viewpoint of an Icelander living in multiple foreign cities. The main theme being a dissection of how Icelanders are perceived by foreigners. It was a slightly awkward start, a bit monotone, not really unveiling much about anything. The main character sitting in an Amsterdam park talking to a Dutchman about Iceland and their belief in Elves.

Nothing really happens at the beginning. Just conversations, simplistic in structure. Unfortunately the chapters don’t seem to have much point to them. It isn’t difficult to read, but I was itching for something more to transpire.

I loved the book. The stories have a beautiful, almost a poetic rhythm. Many of them are full of humor and represent the life of an expat in a really sweet-humoristic way. The author's writing itself is easy to read yet well-thought. Great read!
