This is the second book in the Brenna Spector series. Brenna is very unusual. She has a memory of recall that most of us wish we possessed. I definitely recommend reading the first book so you can follow Brenna as the books delve deeper into her past.

Those who like a little mystery suspense with their novel
Into the Dark was a fast read for me because I wanted to know what happened to the sister...but I'm not sure I ever connected with the author's writing style. Something was off, missing for me. Not sure if it was the quirky characters, the slap stickiness, the crazy ending, some of the dumb things that Brennan did esp. as it involved her daughter, Trent...although he was a goofy geek I did like him, or that humor was trying to be infused into what I thought was supposed to be a novel of suspense

[ARC Review] Into The Dark: Alright Thriller With An Interesting Protagonist Oops...It's a series. Damn. I have not read the first book with Brenna Spencer, And She Was. I’m a Random Order Reader this time around. Into the Dark works as is reading out of order with no previous knowledge of the author or the characters. Brenna has been on one heck of a rollercoaster in this one, it was like looking for a needle in a haystack. More and more information piled on top of her and she still wasn't close to finding out the truth... and I don't think she really got the WHOLE truth after all that tail chasing.
We again meet Nick Morasco, which I'm glad of, I really like him and Brenna and he work well together in a way. Brenna is definitely a toug ...more

Although I liked a couple previous books by Gaylin, I wasn't impressed with the previous one in this series. Nevertheless I gave it a try. At first, it was much better than the last one, but for some reason about a third of the way through it just lost me. The characters are ridiculous, the story unfolds in utterly unbelievable ways. I guess I just fail to maintain willing suspension of disbelief in these books.

Well, it didn't take long for this series to become unbearably dull. No wonder Brenna hates her crystal clear perfect memory -- I didn't live the experiences the first time, and I found myself speed-reading through her memories of them!

Lucky enough to snag an advance copy at Bouchercon. I loved it! Hope there is another one in the works!
Good second book in the series, advances the storyline in an intriguing way, definitely makes me want to read the next installment to see where it will head.
Just an ok book. It had a slow start but picked up the pace eventually. 3 stars.

3.5 stars. Though the ending was a bit jumbled/rushed, the book made me want to continue with the series. So far the pacing of the large mystery is well done, and I like the characters.
When I reviewed the first book in this trilogy back in January, I said I would read the second one, but that the first book wasn’t all that dazzling. I’m thrilled to report that Gaylin seems to have found her stride and done well in this second book. I found it more powerful and more compelling than the first, and the previews of the third book, which I’ll probably read in late May or early June, look even better than the second one.

What can I say? Alison Gaylin hooked me on the first ever book I read by her "And she was", now I am a bonafide die-hard fan!! This book had me on the edge of my seat from the Prologue to the Epilogue! Not a single page had any dull moments. I loved how Gaylin provided a clear set up for the new characters introduced as well as bringing back the much loved characters from book #1 in the series. All the necessary questions were answered at the end, leaving the cliff hangers for her following book

I’m wanting to read all of Alison Gaylin’s novels. I’ve even been purchasing them, which I rarely do. I love her style of writing and sometimes I race to the end of the chapter for the next clue.
This text was not my most favorite, simply because everything wrapped up in the epilogue. Too many loose ends to tie up in a couple of paragraphs on the last page. There were two characters that didn’t have a conclusion to their story, and either I missed the clues or we never ...more

I am unsure how I feel about this book. When I started reading it, I didn’t know it was the second book in a three part series. I think if I would’ve started from the beginning I may have understood more about what was happening in the story line. I felt a little confused for pretty much the entire book, and was expecting to have more answers in the ending. Book 2 in Brenna Spector series. Brenna has a brain anomoly and remembers everything from she sees and hears since the 80's. So of course she becomes a PI in NYC. This book was really a great beach read. Kept the pace going strong throughout. Brenna is hired by Ludlow her nemesis really and by an anonymous client to find an a performance artist who could possible be her long lost sister. Brenna & her asst. Trent jump through many scary hoops and end up strong in this fun mystery!

I couldn’t put this down, I needed to find out what happens next. I also love the characters, and the whole flawless memory thing is so fascinating, I think especially because my own memory is so bad. The story was pretty twisty and full of odd coincidences but it all comes together so well at the end. I’m starting book 3 immediately, though, because there are still some loose ends that I really want to see get tied up.
Great premise, but filled with so many cliched characters and dialogue it was unreadable at points.
Also, it annoyed me to no end that as 'an experienced private investigator' she was oblivious to so much, owned no firearm and chose a pearl-handled letter opener as her weapon of choice.

I'm really enjoying this character and am onto the third in the trilogy. Found this one a bit more confusing with all the characters but I do like the author's writing style. Only took so long to read because I kept getting library holds coming in that I had to read within a certain time period! Maybe that's why keeping track of the characters was challenging at times!

Well this was a pleasant surprise: a new mystery series with an interesting heroine, comic relief and a complex plot that satisfies. I will be reading more by Gaylin..always good to find a new author.
There's things I like about this and many more I do not. Since there is one more book in the series I guess I will read it, even if it does mean putting up with certain ridiculous characters and superfluous drama.

This book follows te case of Brenna her missing sister. It is such a good book and the descriptions of all the memories Brenna had Aboutaleb certain parts in her life are so good. I can really recommend this novel.
