The world is not what Riley Kordek imagined. On the run from those who’ve targeted her, all Riley wants is a chance to figure out her new ability to bend metal's energy. When a hot guy who knows more than he should helps her escape her attackers, she thinks she might’ve found someone who can lead her to the answers she needs.

Three years ago, Sam Remington walked away from his employer and the woman he loved, and now, all he’s looking to do is fill the gaping hole left behind. Except, when Sam takes Riley to the Society for Goddess Education and Defense, the stakes rise beyond what either of them could have imagined.

After being alone for so long, falling for Sam would be far too easy—and far too painful, once his old flame calls needing his help. Worse, Riley uncovers a plot with disastrous ramifications not only for herself, but for Sam and the people he loves—and potentially every goddess in the country.

Natalie J. Damschroder hasn't done anything remotely worthy of bio documentation in a very long time, unless you count making up the romantic adventures that her characters live out in her books. She loves combining end-of-the-world stakes with the relationships that make those stakes personal. Love with a Shot of Adrenaline has infused nearly every story she's published. Whether you like quick reads you can finish in a day or sinking into longer books, you'll find something to satisfy your craving for action, romance, and happy endings. She also writes paranormal young adult romance as NJ Damschroder, where all of the same elements apply.

Besides her dozens of published books, what Natalie is most proud of is her family. She and her husband have been married over 30 years and still have the kind of partnership she makes her characters fight for every day. They've raised two awesome kids now living their own fulfilling lives, which you would think would mean she'd write more books faster. But she's enjoying reading, relaxing with good TV, and sleeping too much to give any of that up. In the fall and winter, almost nothing will keep her from cheering on her New England Patriots, even though they don't win as much anymore. Heavy Metal is book 2 in the Goddesses Rising trilogy by Natalie J. Damschroder. This book starts out three years after Sam left the employ of Quinn, leaving her to begin her life as a couple with her longtime protector, Nick. And trying to give himself the time to heal. Giving her up was the hardest thing he had ever done since he’d been in love with her for a very long time. He is now working as a bartender in a dive bar, having cut himself off from the Society and from Nick and Quinn.

Riley Kordek has no where else to go, no one to turn to. When she turned 21, strange things started happening to her. She began to have abilities she never knew were possible. Her mother and grandmother had never told her about the possibility of her being a Goddess. She had to figure it out all alone. But as she grew comfortable with it, she realized she drew her power from metal. But she still had no idea of what she was capable of. She started doing research and found the Society and watched training videos of Sam when he had been involved with them. Then, other things started happening. Rent payments disappearing before they made it to the landlord’s account. She got fired from her job, evicted from her apartment. She sensed she was being followed. Her car was even stolen. So she found Sam. She needed answers.

 photo chains_zpsd3684039.jpg

The night Riley walked into Sam’s bar, both their lives were changed. Sam vowed to take her to the Society so she can get some help. But then Nick calls and Quinn needs him. She’s sick and they need Sam. This book happens over the span of one week. Riley and Sam find out that together, they are stronger. And that they need each other to fight against the evils that want the powers the goddesses have. Ansel is back and he hasn’t given up yet. He wants power and has a new plan. In both book one and book two, Natalie has the ability to keep us on the edge of our seats, and peaking with heart stopping action packed endings. At the same time, building the romance between the main characters. Sam and Riley needed each other, they just didn’t realize it. And when they both finally accept it, it was a beautiful moment.

“His illness hadn’t been because he wasn’t close enough to the ocean. It was because he wasn’t close enough to her. His body knew her, knew she was near, and thirsted for what she could give him. Which terrified him.”

I absolutely loved this book. I loved that we had our new main characters but that the characters from the first book were also present for a smooth continuation of the story. I can’t wait to continue the story with Marley. I do admit the epilogue confused me a little bit but I’m sure all will be revealed in book three.

One of the things that I like best about my kindle is that I CAN'T flip the book to re-read the synopsis when I am reading a book. I find myself pleasantly surprised, more often than not, as I'm reading by how much I am enjoying the book. My kindle is also breaking me from my cover habit. I DO judge books by their covers: the covers are what draws me in to pick it up and flip it over and read the blurb. This cover did exactly the same thing. *Fans face* Mmmm paranormal romance, hot body, why is his hand smoking?!

This was an unexpected delicious read from Entangled Publishing, one of my favorite publishers in their many hats (Covet, Bliss, Teen, Indulgence, Edge, etc). Unexpected because I wasn't expecting the offer to read it!

Now, I have not read book 1 in the Goddesses Rising series, but luckily I did not have to. The history of Sam (and Quinn and Nick) are nicely summarized for you in the course of the story. I liked Riley; she's feisty and strong enough to look for help when she needs it. The attraction between her and Sam is subtle, but intense at the same time. The plot moved steadily forward and the ending leaves you wanting more. This is not a cliffhanger ending, but the main plot threads are ready to be continued!

I did want to know more of the history of the goddesses so I will be picking up book one. There is some explanation, but not full enough in this book to satisfy me! I'm insatiable, what can I say? I found the powers to be interesting and look forward to Riley discovering more of her powers now that the immediate threat is at an end and she can test with someone like Quinn. At least...I hope that is what lies in store further in the series; Riley & Sam making an appearance like Nick & Quinn in this one!

A thoroughly enjoyable quick-read paranormal romance.

Favorite Line(s) “Now she was all flustered and flushed. And maybe some more F words.”

“I’m saying take care of him. But be careful.”

“It felt good to share a burden, instead of taking on someone else’s. To have a person care about him so much she’d make sacrifices for him”

“I want you.” He shrugged. “That’s what it comes down to.”

This book is no other paranormal story. I don't mean the the love story and the bad guys. I mean the Goddess aspect.
Riley is is what's called a goddess she can get e very and power from touching metal! (Other goddess can get power from water crystal healing. All kinds of things.
Sam was part of Society (Goddess Network) for many years as a protector but, after his heart was broken he decided to step away.
Riley happen to see Sam on an teaching video for the Society that was years ago but something about him made her think he could help. She has been running for month someone is after her, they got her fired, messed up her bank accounts, and now are trying to snatch her. She finally finds Sam at a little bar and wow is he gorgeous!
After a kidnapping gone wrong Sam and Riley end up together. All Sam wants to do is drop Riley off with Society me get out of there or does he? Oh you gotta read it and find out.
It's a great book that makes you want to grab some metal and kick some butt!!

I didn't even know this was book 2, nothing was missing I wasn't lost which makes me love it even more!

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Wow -- this was a really great read! I haven't read book 1 in this Goddess Rising series, but will definitely be checking it out! I had no trouble catching up, and actually had no idea there was a book previous to this one. This works great as a stand alone or as part of the series (now that I've read the synopsis of the first book).

This book follows a "goddess" in a world that acknowledges these magic wielding women. The powers and backstory were really quite unique and not your run of the mill witches or Greek gods. The only books I can think of with a similar take on goddesses or at least the powers they have, is the Cassandra Palmer series, and even that isn't too close.

In this story, we get to watch a sizzling relationship develop between Sam and Riley. There are a few interwoven stories going that kept the action level pretty high, but tempered it with steamy scenes or some adorable romance (well, as much as you can jam into a book where everyone is on the run in one way or another).

I was absolutely sucked in from page 1 and couldn't put the book down! The writing was clever and quick paced, but still delivered all the drama and seriousness that I need to feel really invested in a book. This author is now firmly on my "to-read" list. I hope there's more Goddess Rising books coming!

Heavy Metal is the long awaited sequel to ‘Under the Moon’ and second in the ‘Goddesses Rising’ series.
This time around we meet Riley who has made her way to Sam Remington’s bar (Sam appeared in the first book as a love interest). Riley isn’t really aware of her ‘goddess’ nature because it had become dormant in her family… but when she discovers something strange happens when she’s around metal and believing what her grandma told her, refuses to go to the ‘society’. So, she does a little research and finds a former employee – Sam- who she will approach in the effort to gain some information. When she arrives though, she doesn’t have the chance because trouble is following her every step and looks like it’s been meddling in her life for a while now so when she is attacked… Sam is forced to help and even though he tells himself that he’s only helping out a goddess in distress, the connection he feels towards her is something he hasn’t felt for over 3yrs… with the threat to Riley ever present, the last thing he needs is for his old flame Quinn to need him too but he must decide whose need is greater. As Riley’s troubles deepen alongside Quinn’s everyone needs to prepare for the past and present to collide – big style!
I really enjoyed this, I had been waiting ages for this to come out so wasn’t sure if I should read book one again… there was no need because I had retained a lot of the story and the recaps were suffice to jog my memory on the finer points. I enjoyed our main characters this time around too. Riley was a good character and for all she was in a bad place having lost everything & everyone, she didn’t dwell on it and let it bring her down too much, she was determined & willing to do what was needed to get help & to help others who she barely knew. I know it’s usually the men who protect the goddesses but in my opinion, Riley could join the Protectorate herself and be quite capable. It was nice to have Sam back but sad to see how the fallout of book ones events had affected him, isolating himself and putting off seeing Quinn & Nick for 3yrs, even going so far as to leave the protectorate in an effort to forget, I felt so bad for him but seeing as he’s the leading man, I was looking forward to some happiness for him now.
The storyline takes place 3 yrs after book one but I thought that the way it brought both books together was really good because it is a continuation of the leeching story, only now we see that the bad guy from book one was only the tip of the iceberg. Yes we get Riley’s story, what’s been happening to her, we see her make a lot of discoveries about herself and of course her relationship with Sam… also with Sam we find out what he’s been up to, how he dealt with the aftermath of book one and his feelings for Riley… but that isn’t it, we find out how a lot of people have been since the events of book one and I really liked that, it didn’t feel like we were moving onto another couple from that world and reading of their troubles & romance…It felt more like Riley was being brought into their world and expanding it, adding to the characters that we already know. I loved seeing how the leeching had affected Quinn & its victims, I loved what they were planning on doing about it, I loved seeing Quinn & Nick together, I thought that nearly all of the characters had great progression too – not just our main pairing. I feel that the series thread has been revealed now and I like it, I like that we have a firm opposition now and wonder what this means for the goddesses and although there were a good few reveals, there is still a lot to be discovered and I’m excited for the next book which no doubt will be filled with danger, excitement, magic & romance too.

****3.5 stars****

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this series since I hadn’t read the first book, but this installment was exciting and fast-paced enough to keep me reading. There was a backstory to Sam that I’m now wondering about, and I may end up reading the first book just to satisfy my curiosity. But Heavy Metal is Sam and Riley’s chapter, so I’ll try to avoid any spoilers to previous events!

Riley was thrown into a world she knew little about when she discovered she had the power to use energy from metal, and with her family gone and a mysterious group out to get her, it was do or die time for her. She was literally holding on to her last hope when she finally found Sam Remington, the alluring knight-in-shining-armor with strong ties to the Society for Goddess Education and Defense. Suffice it to say he parted ways from the organization after some events left a bad taste in his mouth, so helping the troubled beauty meant tucking tail and swallowing his pride. Riley was a sweetheart, but she had a fierceness in her that made her an awesome heroine, and she and Sam had great chemistry. There was so much action and danger at every turn that there wasn’t much time for acting on their urges, but when they did…yep, it’s hot!!
Riley’s danger turned out to be everyone’s as the Society came to grips with a threat from the past coming back to haunt them. The goddesses’ powers were all at risk, and this time around it was on a much larger scale. I was expecting the Society to be a little more bad-ass given that they were supposed to be training and protecting the goddesses, but I did love the supporting characters that made up the group. They were all working together to figure out how to right the wrongs of the past that were putting them in danger, and to fight off the very people who caused it all in the first place.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read with a lot of suspense and just enough romance to satisfy readers like me who love a good steamy love story. The concept of goddesses using the earth for powers isn’t really groundbreaking, but I felt like Damschroder put her own mark on it here and made a great world for the Goddess Rising series.

Quotes:

She didn’t know how they’d found her again. Hell, she didn’t know how she knew they were the people who’d been harassing her, since she’d never seen them before. But after being hounded for months, no matter where she went, it didn’t matter—she could feel them. ~ p. 6

“How can a company be that big but only a year old?” Riley asked.
“Good question. Makes the whole thing suspicious.”
Riley laughed, and the sound slid over Sam’s nerve endings. “I don’t know. I think the whole chasing –me-down thing is pretty suspicious already.” ~p. 48

The lack of…anything gave her a chill. Were they planning to abduct other goddeses and trap them here? ~ p. 268

Heavy Metal A Goddesses Rising Novel Natalie J. Dramschroder.

ARC supplied by Netgalley.

I hadn't realised there was a previous book to this one, but it didn't make any difference as the novel was easy to follow. I was a little wary at first, not sure what to expect, and thinking it would be based around mythical Greek/Roman goddesses or something, I like those but couldn't see how they'd fit this story. However it was current time descendants of them who had special talents, these being passed down generations though only the females had any powers they got at 21, and these varied greatly.
We start with Riley, alone and on the run, not knowing who to trust and no understanding of what’s really happening to her. She's seen mention of Sam on a Goddess website, and scopes him out one night when he's working late in his bar. She's been targeted by unknown people and lost her job, home, has no family, had her car stolen, and then while she's in the bar suspects the trio who've just entered are after her. She's right and Sam helps her escape. Slowly she opens up to him about her situation, having no alternative and he persuades her to meet some other members of the society. He's a great guy, hot and sexy, thoughtful and caring, and the attraction between him and Riley is clear early on, but they are each very wary for their own reasons. We meet some interesting characters in the Society, learn more about Sam and Riley's background, get taken into danger and car chases, break-ins and muggings and the plot centred around Riley gets larger and involves many more people than initially though.
Its a well though out adventure, fairly realistic within the definition of fantasy ( I hate those where fantasy is used as an excuse to just go wildly over the top, and the characters get new powers whenever hey need to get out of a scrape!) It keept me engrossed and invested in the outcomes for the people in the book. I enjoyed the whole idea of people with extra powers, and wish I'd read the earlier book – that will now go on my “ I want” list :) Riley is so scared, and yet everyone reaches a breaking point and she develops a strength and determination she didn't think she had. I liked Nick and Quin too, and Marley who'd been punished for her transgressions but she did what she did for love, just sad she was being used by a real b-stard of a person...That's real life though isn't it, and added to the feelings of who to trust that the group had.
I enjoyed this, it's one I know I’ll want to re read over and I’d be more than happy to read the fist and any further novels from the series. It's a good length too at 352 pages, though I suspect the price on Amazon is a mistake as it does seem expensive compared to usual entangled prices and Natalie's earlier Goddess novel.
Stars: great book, full five.

My Review ~

This is the first book by this author that I've read and I have to say it was a great introduction. While this is the second book in the series, there is enough of the backstory to not feel lost in the story.

The story starts out introducing us to the heroine, Riley, as she's checking out the hero, Sam, for the first time. She found him through the Society For Goddess Education and Defense's website and chose to seek him out over the Society for help. She figures he's the lesser of the two evils as her family didn't leave a great image of the Society for her growing up. Sam was once part of the Society as a Protector, but has since left both Society and the Protectors behind after the events that occurred in the first book. Riley needs help as her powers have manifested and she's being followed and targeted.

I really did enjoy both main characters in this story, way more then I enjoyed the secondary characters. The time spent on the secondary characters and the storyline that continued from the first book was probably the only drawback to the story. I really didn't connect with Quinn, Nick, or Marley enough and felt that their stories took a little too much away from the main story. I loved the connection between Riley and Sam, even though it happened so quickly, they're a good fit as a couple.

The story was very engaging and kept my attention all the way to the end. I'm interested to see where it goes with Marley's story with the little twist at the end of this book. I would recommend this book for anyone that enjoyed Lisa Renee Jones's Zodius series and Stephanie Julian's Forgotten Goddesses series. ~Reviewed by Chris

This book is book 2 in the Goddesses Rising Trilogy and it is set 3 years after the events in book one - Under the Moon.

The events in this book are heavily entwined with the events in Under the Moon, they are in fact almost a direct consequence of the events in book one. As a result it features almost an exact cast of characters with the addition of Riley. Despite this, you don't need to have read Under the Moon to pick up and enjoy Heavy Metal - but you'll probably enjoy it more if you have read it.

* From this point on the review features minor spoilers from book one so if you haven't yet read it yet... *

I said in my review for Under the Moon that it held my attention but it wasn't like I couldn't put it down. The exact opposite was true for Heavy Metal. I was hooked from the beginning and I read it in a day.

The story is fast paced and it builds on the world of the Goddesses, the society and the Protectorate as well as giving you a conclusion to the events in Under The Moon (e.g. Quinn and the Leeched Goddesses) as well as giving Sam his own happy for now / happy ever after after losing Quinn in Under The Moon.

I loved Sam in Under the Moon for many reasons but the main reason was probably that he is man who prefers to use his brain before his brawn. That's not to say he is incapable of fighting but he thinks first, then acts and it is incredibly sexy. This holds true in Heavy Metal. Sam is still Sam. Losing Quinn, in Under the Moon, has left his mark on him. He isn't angry or bitter, he's just lost his purpose.

Riley is young (23ish) and she's undecided on whether the Goddesses are myths or con-artists up until her own abilities develop and she is left questioning everything she thought she knew. She has lost everything and is being hunted. She is scared and confused and goes to Sam hoping to find answers. Initially she seems incredibly timid and fragile but as the story progresses she shows she has an inner strength as strong as steel... Much like medium she draws power through.

Riley gives Sam a renewed sense of purpose and Sam gives Riley the confidence she needs to become all she can be. It's not instalove between them but they do fall fast and hard.

As I said before, plot threads from Under the Moon are wrapped up in this book and new ones are created. I assume the unanswered questions from Heavy Metal will be wrapped up in December when book 3 (Sunroper) is released.

All in all, I liked it better than book one and I'm left excited for book 3.

find it amazing how many wonderful books there are out there. Books that I have never heard of and authors unknown. I am so glad that I discovered Netgalley and have an opportunity to explore these fantastic authors.

Heavy Metal is book two in author, Natalie J. Damschroder's Goddess Rising Series and Ms. Damschroder tells an interesting tale. Goddesses are descendants of the original gods and for some reason only the goddesses are the only ones who have survived.. or is that true?

Riley Kordek's life has completely fallen apart. First she discovers she has powers and is connected with metal. But someone is trying to destroy her, first she looses her job, then her apartment and something is one her on her trail. After six months she is alone, almost on the brink but finally is asking up help. But she doesn't trusts the goddesses but she just might Sam Remington, former protector.

Sam Remington might be on a break from the goddesses but he still believes in them so when a worn out and alone Riley he does all he can to convince her to connect with them. The only way possible was to travel with her himself. Of course once he does his skills are needed more than ever.

While Riley is trying to find her research her family history and learn some of her powers, Sam is called away on an important mission. And the more Riley finds out the madder she gets. Determined to discover all she can she leaves the goddesses and travels to do some snooping of her own. Not always the smartest thing a woman can do... You know like the blond (always the blond) who goes into the basement when the escaped axe murderer is running loose and the power goes out.... So yeah it wasn't that Brighton one hand but on the other hand it shows Riley is not the type that needs a man to save her.. She needs a partner.

As their jobs slowly bring them to the same place together they find a way to protect each other and create a wonderful team. They discover that the goddesses are facing an old enemy who has made some new friends.. Can they survive the fight? And when it's over can they keep their relationship alive?

I truly enjoy Ms. Damschroder's wit and style. Also how she tweaks our imagination and hints how some great men came into power.

A truly enjoyable read, check it out.

4 Stars!

This is the second book in the series and I did not read the first one. However, that wasn’t a problem. I could still understand it and got into the story quickly.

I loved Natalie’s writing style. The book is so well written and you just flow through the story because she writes so smoothly… It all sounded, I don’t know…. intelligent :D She just knows her way around the English language.

The story was really nice and full of action. It kept me going from the first page. What I liked most were the characters. They were all so well developed and very believable. Sam and Riley were awesome. They are so great together and what I loved was that they are also great alone. This was not a book where the heroine is dependent on the hero all the time and they are together 24/7. Their relationship developed slowly and even though the time frame of the book is not so long I didn’t have the feeling that their relationship was rushed. And Riley is a kick-ass goddess. She is strong and independent and takes things in her own hands. I loved her. Sam was perfect for her. Moreover, Riley did not lose her strong personality because of a man. You know what I mean, like some heroines will just do anything for the man. A lot of the time it was Riley who supported Sam even though Riley was the one who originally needed help.

The world about goddesses Natalie has built was also very interesting. The goddesses are kind of organized like a company. I liked that because it is different from most paranormal stories. At least those I have read.

What I did not like so much was that there was so much focus on the “old” characters from the first book. Even though this was Riley’s story Quinn was the center of attention too often for my liking. A lot of the storyline was based on the first book and continued what happened there. I have to admit I did not become a fan of Quinn. Maybe it was because I didn’t read the first book which is about her and consequently did not come to like her as a heroine with her own story. I wanted to read a book about Riley and Sam and, well, everyone was just concerned about Quinn… Nevertheless, Quinn is a very nice person and not egoistic at all.

All in all I can really recommend this book. The romance part of the story is not too much but it is there and it’s very sweet. Also the paranormal world of goddesses is great. I am really curious for the next book about Marley.

Picking up three years later, Heavy Metal starts with Sam working in a different bar, where Riley walks in, looking quite nervous. Well, she walks out the back exit and is followed by some unknown people, whom she is able to knock out using her metal magic. Of course, Sam comes out to help and starts questioning her. It turns out that Riley knows nothing about her goddess heritage, but is reluctant to go to the Society for help. She tracked him down thanks to his goddess defense videos, but now she'll need his protection as whoever is after her, won't stop until they get her.

I liked Heavy Metal a lot. Even though there's three years between this one and the first book, it is a direct continuation, which I liked. The leech is still on the loose, but there's others working with him. Everyone found it strange that they were after Riley, since she's not a registered goddess, but of course, they have their reasons. The other part of the plot has to do with Quinn trying to return the leeched powers to their rightful hosts. It's taken years of research, but she's figured it out. She just needs help from the son of a goddess, which would be Sam, but he's still harboring some ill feelings toward her and Nick.

The romance in Heavy Metal was better than the one in Under the Moon. Riley and Sam are brought together under stressful circumstances, so adrenaline is high, and their connection is instant. It probably helped that he inherited a bit of moon lust from Quinn, so there's times where he can't keep away from Riley, even though he thinks he should.

In the end, I liked Heavy Metal. It did drag a bit in places, especially when it came to who was behind all of the attacks. There were a lot of little pieces that had to come together, which got a bit jumbled. Then Anson appears, disappears, appears, and disappears again for various reasons. I really liked the epilogue though. I think that was a great addition, since it filled up one of the plot-holes.

Heavy Metal was just what I wanted from this series. 1. Sam, 2. Action, 3. Sam, lol. Yes, I absolutely loved Sam in Under The Moon. He was like the built, smart, sexy and dedicated third wheel and I wanted nothing more than to see him find happiness.

Heavy Metal takes off with an unknown goddess finding her way to our sexy sweetheart from book one, Sam. The goddess mentioned is Riley, a frightened young girl who just happens to live off the grid from the rest of the goddess world. The story is narrated by both Sam and Riley in alternating POVs. I was happy to see that they were spaced out well enough to grasp each side before switching.

I really liked this one! I apologize ahead of time but I will be comparing it to Under The Moon quite a bit. If you haven't read Under The Moon, that's alright, I think you can still read Heavy Metal without running into much confusion. The book does a good job reiterating it's predecessor without sounding terribly repetitive.

There's a bit less passionate build up between Sam and Riley but it doesn't stop them from being incredible together. To my dismay, their attraction progressed a little faster than I was expecting. At the turning point I found myself a little confused and had to backtrack to see if I skipped a page.

There was much more action this time around. That was one of my biggest problems with Under the Moon, but Heavy Metal was quite fast paced and exciting. I loved all of the scenes with Riley defending herself. She was tired of running and finally fighting back. She may have started as a damsel in distress, but over time she grows confidence and refuses to stand down.

She was a wonderful heroine. Riley and Sam balanced perfectly and at the end I felt as nervous as she must have out on that balcony. Very well written, intense, and romantic. I'd definitely recommend this to any paranormal romance readers.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Associate Reviewer - Marta C:
*eARC received from the Publisher in exchange for an honest review
--Actual rating 4.5 Skulls

My first read from this author, and truthfully I didn't quite know what to expect. This is the second book in her Goddesses Rising series, and follows on from Under The Moon. Is it fantasy? Romance? Urban? Well yes, somehow it's all of those and yet more. I don't know how I missed this author, but in some ways it reminds me of the Weather Warden series that I stumbled on by chance and then was equally blown away by. I love that these books challenge being pigeon holed and you as a reader just go for a fantastic ride.

In this tale we meet Riley, who is on the run from those who seem to want to profit from her gift. Riley has the ability to make metal bend to her will, and believes an organization that protects those they call goddesses might be able to help her. She's truly not sure whom to trust, and seeks out Sam, who previously worked with the organization, but when they meet all hell breaks loose.

Can Riley really trust Sam, and more to the point, will he want to become involved? He had his heart broken and has been running since, so why would he want to get involved? They find themselves embroiled in much more than either of them anticipated and embark on a journey to shake their very beliefs.

This is a book that pulls you in from the very beginning. It's chock full of twists and turns and the action is non stop. I was truly sucked in from the start. The passion between Sam and Riley smoldered, yet didn't quite deliver for me. Still, I loved that it had such a unique view on humanity and our origins and would most definitely recommend it.

This is a well written book that deserves an audience.

I received an ARC of this book for my honest review

I received this book and realized after reading it that it is the second book in the Godesses Rising Series. I have to say I did not even realize I was not reading a stand alone book. This book while the second in the series actually told you enough about what was going on to follow and understand. I will definitely read the first in the series though as this is a great series. This book was well written and held my attention throughout. There is plenty of action with detailed scenes that made me sit on the edge of my seat! The romance in the book is heartfelt and well written. It is very believable even though it is a fast moving romance. I loved the secondary characters also. I got to see enough of them to want to follow them in future books. While this can be read as a stand alone, it also follows along in the series. Its great that the characters from each book do show up in the next of future books. I love series like that where you can read them alone or in order and you won’t feel like you are missing a ton. This author has a great writing style that flows and makes you want to not put the book down! I definitely LOVED this book and am looking forward to reading more from this author!

Great writing, great story! What more can you ask for? Heavy Metal grabs you right from the start – and in a way I had not anticipated – and keeps you turning the pages right through to a very satisfying end.
Pursued by unknown people determined to turn her life upside down, Riley Kordek has only recently discovered she is a goddess, but has no one she can trust to ask about the meaning of it all. Except, perhaps, for Sam Remington, a lowly barkeep, perhaps, but also a man with the knowledge she needs. Can he help her? Will he help her? Or will he be just another false hope to add to the disaster that has become her life? He is affiliated with a group she has been warned to avoid, but she’s at the end of her rope and has to reach out to someone, anyone, even if they prove false.
Riley may not have all the knowledge she needs, but she’s no wimp, and doesn’t hesitate, in the face of evil, to wield what power she has. I enjoyed her strength of character, her determination, and her willingness to kick butt. She had me cheering her on from page one, and Sam’s inner strength and desire to help others, even while he suffered, made him a hero to respect and admire.
I look forward to the continuation of Ms. Damschroder’s Goddesses Rising series. Well done.

** Copy provided by Netgalley and Entangled Publishing, LLC for an honest review**

The second book in this series does not disappoint and we get to see so much more of that yummy Sam.

Riley Kordek is a fairly new Goddess and found Sam on society website, both notice each other on a basist level straight away, but trouble has followed Riley. Both are struggling with their current lives and find both a purpose and a want of each other propelling them forward to help with another dire situation that has cropped up in the Goddess world.

With Quinn and Nick requesting Sams help, he brings Riley further into the Goddess world where she starts to finally be able to piece her life together.

The sexual tension between Sam and Riley is electric and fast when things finally happen and yet another obstacle is put in their path that has all parties fighting not only for their lives but for each other, with Riley really showing her strength of character.

I'm so happy that Sam and Riley get their HEA, and really looking forward to seeing how Marley is going to get her HEA. She deserves it.

I received a copy of this book through netgalley in exchange for a honest review.

Riley ends up at Sam's bar after a bunch of strange things happen to her. After reading about Sam on the goddess website, she goes to him for help. Newly discovering she has special power and her family saying they couldn't trust the goddess society, she isn't sure what to believe. She isn't even sure goddesses are real.

I have not read the first book in this series. This book can be read as a stand alone. If you are just starting this series, I would recommend reading book one first, though it is not necessary.

This book was full of action and suspense. Also a romance between Sam and Riley. Perspective switched between the two and it was written really well. I felt their connection and it really drew me into the secondary characters as well. I will definitely read the first and any other books to come in this series.

3.5 stars. Snagged from NetGalley.

This is a direct sequel to Under the Moon. If you didn't like that one, you're not going to like this one and I wouldn't advise reading Heavy Metal without reading Under the Moon first.

It's a little ponderous. There's another conspiracy a-brewing and the hero, Sam, is angsty, borderline whiny at times, but Riley, the heroine, is very credible. I couldn't exactly relate to her struggles, having never been on the run or possessing an affinity for metal, but I could empathize.

The main thing I took away from this one is that I was right in my review of Kira's Best Friend. 2013 Damschroder is much, much, better than 2005 Damschroder. Fans of her work will like Heavy Metal, but I'm still waiting for that five star book I think she's capable of.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is book two in the series, Goddess Rising. I did not read the first book. I struggled a little in understanding some of the characters and I could tell there were details I would have known if I had read the first book. But it did not deter me from finishing this book in a day.
I will admit to reading my fair share of fantasy/paranormal romance novels. Like most of you, vampires and werewolves are the main focus. This was a refreshing topic for me. So instead of reading a novel for the romance, I found myself reading for all the details beyond the romance.
I would say that the romance aspect of this story definitely took a back seat to the action and the continuation of the story.
I would recommend this novel to someone looking for a fresh storyline, light romance.

( from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review) I seem to have a bad habit of choosing books for their covers, hee hee.

This book didn't leave me disappointed either so I must be having good luck with my strategy. Being the second in a series, I have NOT ready the first in this either, the storyline could be a stand alone. It had a back story of the previous book but also followed up with enough that it didn't leave the reader hanging going : what the F just happened?!"

It took me a bit to warm up tot he Riley character. At first she seemed strong willed and the you learn she is really just winging it. Not knowing much at all about her powers except by trail and error, she is smart enough to track down Sam.

I have conflicting feelings about this book. First off, I loved the idea behind this series. The characters were amazing, and the story line was so good that I read it in on sitting. However there were several spots that seemed to resolve so quickly that I found myself backtracking to previous pages to see if I missed something. Just seemed like there might have been vital parts that had been cut out or shortened and I was left scratching my head and saying "How did that happen?" All in all though a very good read and I am looking forward to what's next. I received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

First, I would like to thank the author Natalie J. Damschroder for giving me this book for an honest review. This book is very well written, the story was good and full of action. I liked the characters, they were well developed and believable. Sam and Riley were great together, but they were great alone as well. Their relationship developed slowly and I liked that very much. Riley is strong and independent and can handle things herself. The world building was good, it was interesting how the goddesses were organized and had different ways their powers worked. I look forward to reading more from Natalie.

This book was decent. The concept of Gods and Goddesses was interesting. The heat between Riley and Sam was phenomenal. Hell, I could have moved things with my mind with how much he turned me on, and he's not real! I think the story was well written and holds the reader interested from beginning to end. I haven't read the first in this series, but I wasn't left in the dark. The author took that into account with this book.

Entertaining read that kept my interest. I like the spin of Gods and Goddesses. It was action packed and had just enough steamy romance to keep me entertained. I would recommend reading the first book in the series though first as their is a back story between several of the characters and the story line.

I got to chapter eight, 34% in and just had no inclination to read anymore. It wasn't grabbing my attention like it had at the beginning and I found myself just skipping through bits, trying to find a bit to keep me interested and to make me want to continue but it never came. Therefore it's going down as a DNF, I'm afraid.

This is an interesting book. It's got lots of action, romance, paranormal elements and suspense. It's unlike other books that I have read. This is the second book in the series but I didn't read the first one. I was still able to follow it through though. I am going to find the first book and read it too. It's a great series!
