This is a mixed bag. Technically, yeah, it's a book.... but it's a book attached to a box full of pieces of a human body model.

The book itself is wonderful. It's got fairly detailed information with simple explanations. It includes what is a cell, different types of cells, cells vs tissues vs organs vs systems, and then individual systems. The illustrations are attractive and the layout is clean and easy to read. My boys (4, 5, and 11) all enjoyed this book. It's 5 ***** if you're looking for science based human body books that can be used for a pretty wide age range.

So why is the 2** rating? Crap quality. The model is cardboard, which ok, fine, yeah I guess we don't need to make everything out of plastic...BUT this cardboard does that gross swelling thing any time it gets knicked or exposed to any moisture. You can't clean the pieces without destroying them. Once you toss the model, you have an empty box that can't be separated from the book. The pieces fit well the first time, but after a few uses things were wiggling.

My kids could probably break anything. My boys were learning the names of organs so they could punch each other and scream things like "I got your liver," so don't necessarily rule this book out if you have a well behaved child who would enjoy this set... just be aware that it probably won't survive a lot of handling.
