An "exuberant" (El Mundo) debut novel about a family of cursed women in the tradition of Laura Esquivel's Like Water for Chocolate.
The Laguna women suffer from an odd affliction: each generation is condemned to tragic love affairs and to only give birth to girls who are unable to escape the cruel fate of their mothers. One fateful hunting season in their small Castilian

Woah, this book was Weird (with a capital "W"), but SO good! I'd like to visit Scarlet Manor's garden, but at the same time I'd be a little wary.

I absolutely love the author's writing. It's so vivid and paints such an interesting picture. Though her characters were incredibly unique, I connected with a lot of them and I really cared what happened to them.
I love magical realism, and this book has a ton of that, so that was a wonderful treat.

I highly recommend this one!

I loved the characters and the settings. So realistic and lifelike. You can tell the author knew exactly what she was writing about. My only problem with this book is that it lags in some places. It just doesn't keep you engaged 100%...but only like 90%. That's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. But I'd still recommend it to others.

I loved the story about the Lagunas but I was upset with the ending. It was sad to see what all the Laguna women went through but I was disturbed by what happened with Santiago and Olvido! I couldn't stomach it. I really wish there was a happier ending.

Luego me

Clara falls for a rich man, who gets her pregnant and leaves her. Clara vows revenge. She gives birth to a daughter. As the years pass and generations are born, eventually a boy is born. So is the cursed broken?

I was drawn to THE HOUSE OF IMPOSSIBLE LOVES by the compelling title and synopsis and, while the prose was gorgeous and the plot unique, I just wasn't hooked by this novel.

The story tells about multiple generations of women from a family that has been cursed. It is said that the women in this family will never experience happy love and will forever end up alone. Quickly, an issue arose that I found hard to overlook: I felt no connection - neither sympathy or anger - towards the women of the nove

Recommends it for: Everyone
This is a book which makes one dream and feel so entwined in the Castillian Magic that it is impossible not to want to find out how the story ends... I must confess that the only thing I did not enjoy so much was the excess of "blod" in some of its magic... But the characters are almost palpable, the stories entwine themselves perfumed by rain and earth, and the far away presence of the Sea flows through the generations of the Laguna Famly...
Definitely a good read.

This book was ok, but it was really just weird and confusing. Maybe I'm not forward thinking enough with literature to not be freaked out by a grandmother sleeping with her underage grandson, but overall I wasn't really a fan.
