My friend loaned me the first book in this series in trade paperback. I got through it in a day and was dying to read the next few, and when I went online to price the e-books, discovered the most economical choice was to purchase the first five in a single e-book. I read the subsequent four in short order, and I was very pleased with the series, in general.

First off, I don't read a lot of YA these days. I tend to lose patience with the characters too easily, but that didn't happen this time. In
This is truly the best fantasy world I've read of so far. The story is so gripping and the plot is insane! I nearly broke window after the first book; it was so twisted in the end I wanted to hurl but at the same time the book was sooo good! I had to read the next book. And from then I was hooked. When I finished the City of Lost souls, book 5 I knew there would be more but then I discovered that I have to wait til September 2014! I wanted to punch myself! The books are that good. Will Book 6 be ...more

***City of Bones

Oh my! This book is not a dull moment sort of book. I have to remind myself how old they are.
And holy moly!

******SPOILER ALERT!!!******

So by chapter 22 I was talking to myself with an audible OH My GAWD!
I am not happy that Clary is unlucky in love! But it will turn out fine I'm sure I am excited to read the next book!

***City of Ashes

So much happens in this book I was staggeringly stunned more than once! It was indeed a good read! Nail biting and polish chipping occurred! Now o

There are NO MAJOR spoilers in this review.

I’m back again, it seems! And with good purpose- I found the series written by Cassandra Clare from where I usually find things- The Internet- Tumblr to be precise. I find that a lot of people on Tumblr have good taste, but perhaps that’s being a bit open-minded.
None the less, The Mortal Instruments leads a thrilling story-line which follows a young red-head called Clarissa “Clary” Fray on her journey to discover her past and her heritage- with a bit-

There is never going to be a better series than The Mortal Instruments. It's better than any other novel I had read in my whole entire life! It really is such a phenomenal series I just couldn't elaborate to you enough. Clary, a stubborn 17 year old yet a very loving and caring person.Jace who sometimes could be very sacarstic but inside he is a softie... and then a warrior in the outside...lets say a Shawdowhunter. Simon, who would love Clary no matter what.
I will never forget theses books. Loved every word. Every book was great, but I loved the first most of all. Romance, paranormal beings, mystery, heart ache, courage and love. Everything all in one! If you haven't read them.. What are you still doing reading this review?

I loved this series! It's like the next best thing since Harry Potter! It has tons of fantastical characters like vampires, wearwolves, warlocks, etc. It has romance, comedy, tradgedy, and epic battle scenes. It's about a group of demon hunters called "shadowhunters" which is like a mix between the angelic and human race that fight for good. I couldn't put it down! The books do grow increasingly "worldly" but still stay on a consistant PG13 level which I always find enjoyable. Loved it! I'd reco ...more
I’ve seen this book around a lot, but never really bothered to pick it up. Honestly, I’ll admit my faults and say I was a bit biased. I saw the cover, saw a boy on the front of it, and assumed it was from a males perspective. I’m on my women only kick, and didn’t even bother reading the synopsis to confirm or deny my suspicions. Bad Ashley.

So this series (at least books 1-3) is not from a males perspective, so i completely felt like a boob. The second half of the series (books 4-6) does switch q

I read a bit, skimmed a lot. Certain stories arcs appealed to me, but more on a soap opera escapist scale than anything. Clare does a decent job of writing quirky teenagers navigating both hormones and fantasy adventures, but some of my beef with the book is that there’s really nothing deeper there. It’s fun, but didn’t touch me with a more genuine message, like the Potter books and the emphasis on sticking together with friends, your legacy living on through your loved ones, and choosing what i ...more

This is a great Young Adult Series. I read City of Bones in hardcover. The rest of the books I read on my kindle. The kindle made it so I could read while my husband needed to sleep. It also saved a lot of strain on my arms. Love reading on my kindle.

Back to the series... It was a very interesting story to read. Yes there is quite a bit of cheesy love going on with the main characters. They have heterosexual intimate scenes that increase as you read more books in the series. If reading about tw

The Mortal Instruments Series (5 books): City of Bones; City of Ashes; City of Glass; City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

I found the Mortal Instruments to be a delightful surprise. I was expecting a sort of mix of Harry Potter with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I wasn't disappointed in that. What bonus I received, though; this has several elements that remind me of the Nine Princes of Amber by Roger Zelazny and even a bit of Philip Jose Farmer's Tier Series. What I mean b
The Mortal Instruments series is not one of my favorites on the shelf. Here's my honest opinion.

Yes, the series is packed full of action and romance. There's an actual plot too, which keeps readers hooked. I admit I was too. When I picked up the first book, I liked it so much and decided, on impulse, to purchase the rest. Much to my disappointment, the story seemed to go around and around (for me) and I eventually stopped at the third ー or fourth book ー I'm not sure.

Now, before you start critici

I finished the first three last year and lovvvved them!! They are now one of my favorite series. When I just heard that Cassandra Clare came out wiht two more in the series, I was so excited. I am currently reading Clockwork Price and I love that series too. Once I finish that, I will get the last two and add them to the first three that are on my shelf... but not before I read them!!! This is a great book for teens and I love it!!!
This is a beautiful series. It is filled with love, action, adventure, lessons and hilarious one liners. You will find yourself crying at times and giggling at others. It is a great balance of lead characters and small significant characters with diverse personalities. Every action in the book has a reaction and the emotions are so well versed you get lost in the book and sometimes feel what the characters are feeling even if you identify with one more than the other. I enjoyed that the author m ...more

I just love Jace. It is a common teen fictional love story but what the heck, I love the series. Some may disagree with me but I like this kind of story. However, the phasing of the book is quite slow. I am a bit irritated on the character of Clary also. But overall, I liked the series and I'm just currently waiting for the last book!
I am DEFENITLY in love with this series, I've read books 1-4 and I can't wait anymore to read the 5th. The plot is absolutely amazing. The characters are great. I give some real credit to Cassandra Clare. SPOILER ALERT----------- In City of Ashes and in City of Glass, and in City of Fallen Angels, I honestly wanted to explode and just burn something, the endings of all the books listed above are just amazing. I wanted to KILL Jace In the endings of the 2 and 3 book. And then in City of Fallen An ...more

I read the entire series, but can't say I loved it. The writing improved after the first book, which had way too many 'the sun glinted in his eyes like the reflection off a knife' sort of nonsense. I also found Alex's relationship entirely unbelievable. He hardly says a word or does anything that makes him remotely interesting, but gets a very interesting and ancient lover. Doesn't ring true to me. And as a parent, the idea of an 18 year old boy essentially valued for his youth and looks (and th ...more

Overall rating of the series 1-5.
3/5 stars
Finished the first book as a single edition, April 17th, 2013, which I bought as I was not sure wether I would like it and did not want too spend too much money on a new writer. As it was great, I bought the cheapest edition of the next books, I could find, being a Kindle set of The Mortal Instruments 1-5.
Will start City of Ashes today, April 17th, 2013.
Sorry, bad week, no updates.
Finished City of Ashes April 22nd (not sure), City of Glass April 24th (probably) 2013. Not too sure about the dates
I really did like this series. But I think it should've ended at the third. Great stopping point. Now Magnus and Alex are broken up and im like WHATTT! They a good bit on the only reason I read this series. After the third book I hated Jace sand Clary. Are they siblings or not? I mean goodness, make up your mind. That and this series just got me mad, for too many reasons. But Simon was okay.

So your probably wondering wondering why I gave it four stars?
Because I really liked the first three, but
Okay, where to start this review. These books were really good, I mean far better than I was expecting them to be. I'm going to start with Jace because I can't not start with Jace. I started this series near the end of the semester when I had twenty page papers due and exams beginning and no matter how hard I tried (okay maybe I didn't try that hard but whatever) I coukd not put this collection down for long. Jace is hilarious and sarcastic and amazing. I love his character so much! Next up I mu ...more
I was going to begin this review with a bashful disclaimer trying to absolve myself of guilt for reading a YA series but then the other day I came across this great piece
and I decided screw that. I'm an adult; I can read whatever I want. I've certainly read some crappy adult books just for pure fun (Sookie Stackhouse books anyone?), so if I want to read some crappy YA books for pure fun, I'm not going to feel ashamed about it. There.

When I first saw this series I thought, WOW. The covers are gorgeous and the synopsis is CRAZY! I read these books so fast it's not even funny. The romance, the magic, the history, the confrontations...its all amazing. Cassandra Clare did an amazing job with this one. The characters are definitely likeable. My favorite, Magnus! He is the person you want to be best friends with. But anyways, Clary I felt was lacking a bit at first. I didn't fully appreciate her until she embraced the fact that sh ...more

Okay. I'm a sucker for paranormal YA.
I fell in love with TMI. It's written very well, I don't care what anyone says. The whole Clary-and-Jace-related thing freaked me out when I finished City of Bones. THEY ARE ONE OF MY MANY OTPS!!!! I will tell you I was sneaky and looked up if they really were brother and sister... I was so relieved when I found out! City of Glass was my favorite of the series, for many reasons, one of them being the above. :)
Cassandra, you rock! One of my favorites.
Wow, Cassandra Clare literately can do no wrong.
These books are fantastic! they're funny, interesting, and you can never know how the end is going to go down.
I recommend to read the whole series, I promise you won't regret it.
The world she has created is wonderful and amazingly detailed.
There's action, mystery, romance, betrayal and so much more. by the time you'll reach the middle of book one you'll be so wrapped up in the story the other five will fly by.
