The Earl and the Fairy is a short four volume series and while some series go on far too long this one ended leaving you feeling there was more that could have been said.

Set in 19th century England, Lydia Carlton is a fairy doctor-one of the few people who are able to see fairies. When she is rescued from kidnapping by Edgar Ashenbert, Earl Ibrazel, he claims to be the descendant of the Blue Knight Earl, human ruler of the fairy kingdom. But he needs Lydia's help as a fairy doctor to claim his b

The anime was really good, but it was too short and it's really different from the manga. The manga was also short. We didn't even get a chance to see Prince and Kelpie. Whenever Edgar and Kelpie meets, it always makes me laugh when they fight. When I finished watching the anime, I thought the manga would have more to add on, but it didn't. It only talked about part of his past(the third and fourth volume anyway), and though that was interesting to read and we get learn more about Edgar, I was h ...more
Overall, I really liked this manga series, adapted from a novel series (I believe), though I wish that it had been a little bit longer.

The series wraps up nicely in this last volume, though the ending seemed a little bit too quick to me. The story was good overall, in all of the volumes, and I loved the setting of (mostly) London, and the mythology that was thrown into the story, along with the real-to-life elements like slavery. There were some hard issues dealt with in this series, but I enjo

This volume doesn't really conclude anything beyond the arc with Rosalie. Prince is still a nebulous threat, and much of the story still has momentum so it feels like things will continue. The romance between Lydia and Edgar advances, but not to a point anywhere near satisfying. Plus, there are some parts that are a bit heavy-handed, and some metaphors that are a tad overworked. However, Edgar is still a rogue, still scarred, and still amazing in both his arrogance and his depth of character.

Definitely finished before it's time. I love the blend of historical/fantasy/mystery/romance.

This was a pretty nice ending to the series. It got a bit (only a bit, not overly so) intense there for a while.

So, the last book ended with Lydia being locked up in some abandoned warehouse, and… Um, she finds that she’s not the only one there, and then Nico shows up, and then Edgar and Raven show up. They find out something much darker is going on, and Edgar has a big confrontation with Rosalie (which was great), and… some other stuff happens until the case is

I have read that this is the final volume of this series. It did not feel like a final volume to me...perhaps because I have not read the other three volumes. But, I find it sad if it is. That's because I really liked Lydia and Edgar, and I long to see more happen between them, especially in the romance department, and this ending means it won't.
I really liked the characters in this volume. I felt a connection with Lydia almost instantly, and it grew deeper as the volume went along. I also fel

The final installment of the series was rather fast-paced as the climax of this arc took place. Everything was wrapped up nicely without leaving any frustrating plot holes. The series in its entirety was fun to read, especially since it didn't have any unnecessary filler stuff to extend it out. It was short, sweet, interesting, witty, and a great experience. I loved the characters and enjoyed the imperfections they all had; made them a bit more relatable. Four and a half stars for this volume, b ...more

-sniffles- The proclaimed last volume to the series. I don't see how it could go so much further and give us a definite ending for our two main characters. I would very much had appreciated that. Wonderful book. Our heroine goes missing. The man we have seen lie the entire series, cocky and self-center. He unleashes hell in his mission to locate her....But all that aside towards the end. I think you see a softness come out, just for her that you wouldn't see with anyone else. That he couldn't sh ...more

Loving the covers for these. The color settings are really good. Also I'm surprised this was a short series. With most series they go on and on, sometimes far too long and sometimes long enough to get the story and closure across? With this, I liked it but felt there should of been more in a way I guess? I don't know. I might give the anime a watch. Pretty good 4 volume series. Lydia is awesome.

Please don't let this be the end of the series. There's still so much that can be done. Ugh why is it that all the good story lines never seem to be popular in the States. Friendly warning to all manga readers! If you really like a series make sure you check to make sure that it will be in some sort of print form before you get too wrap up into them.

This was a very interesting series but I felt that there was a lot missing.

The ending kind of felt unfinished and rushed and I just felt like there was much more to this whole story that we're missing.

I don't know whether what I've read is utterly nonsense or brilliant. Nevertheless, it was...fine I have to settle on the latter.

Overall series review: Good manga but disappointed with the ending!:(

Lydia has been trapped by Rosalie, who is friends with a bogy-beast and doesn't realized she's being used by him. Rosalie wants Edgar all to herself, but without knowing it, she's a danger him as she brings him closer and closer to his enemy.

So, this is the final volume. I feel I can say that I know Edgar better now and that he is not such a bad guy. He's most definitely not perfect and has done bad things. However, beyond all that, there is a part of him that cares. He doesn't show it, but it

The series concludes with this volume. I don't know if the novel went on to explore more, but this is all that was ever illustrated as a manga. I found it to be a satisfying series, though I wish I could have found out who the mastermind was. I wasn't sure if he and Edgar's slaver (revealed in this volume) were the same man.

However, I was pleased nonetheless. I enjoyed being in this world for all four volumes. My favorite moment in this volume was when Lydia tried to trap the hobgoblin's soul i

You finally get the most revealing hints at Edgar and Raven's past, but they still don't spell everything out. Lydia does get taken seriously now though because they see something they can't explain through other means and her knowledge saves the day (even though she does need Edgar to do it). Niko is still fascinating in that he tends to provide just enough of a hint without explaining things for everyone else to solve the puzzle. Unfortunately, this is the last volume. While they picked a good ...more

The back of this volume says it's the last, and it looks like the anime it's based on only lasted one season... and I'm sad to see it go.

While not without its flaws (i.e. a sort of typical romance with the shy, awkward girl with the ugly duckling complex, and the dark, possibly dangerous, bad boy whose heart she changes) - it was a quick, fun and frothy sort of read complete with derring-do, danger and faeries, set in 1800s London.

Ah, yes... the perfect sort of brain candy.

I cannot believe this is how this mini-series ends, felt incomplete. If it was going to end so soon I think it should have been cut off soon after he becomes earl. Adding more adventures after that made it feel like there was something else.

Then there's Edgar mentioning he's managed to stop her from leaving for the moment, like, I want to see more! haha

Some things I felt were left unsolved: does she end up leaving eventually or not? Do they meet Prince? Will she be targeted again? Does Edgar mov

Ultimately, a 3.5 for me. The first two volumes were solid fours, with depth in plot and gorgeous shading (the eyes!!! o_O) but the 3rd book started off a little rocky and from there the last volume plummeted while they tried to wrap up loose ends and failed. The whole ending was rushed. Possibly the author thought the series would be more popular and had to end it earlier than anticipated? I'm not sure. It just doesn't feel satisfying to me. But the art never deviates, and that is why I am able ...more
This book felt rushed, though maybe that's because things finished in a timely manner unlike other manga series.

It's very rarely that I say this about manga, but I actually wish that The Earl and the Fairy could have gone on just a little longer. The story was made up of two parts, the "Earl" part where Edmund strives to become the earl, and the "Fairy" part where the group try to solve the mystery of the "fogman" (an evil fairy). Two parts is really short, and I would have liked maybe a third p

It's a wonderful story about the world we only knew existed in books. Sad to say only 4 volumes were translated in English even though there are a total of 32 volumes.

Hope to read the ending if there is a kind soul who knows how to translate Japanese to English light novels.

Volume s 5 & 6 are translated by Nalya @ and Volume 7 is now being translated by Ache @

Sad to say Ache can no longer continue with the translations because of personal

This series was just okay. All four volumes were just the same thing over and over. Earl does nice things, Lydia starts falling for Earl, Earl lies to her, Lydia gets angry, Lydia forgives him, Earl tries to get close to Lydia, Lydia gets flustered and turns away. It was like that right up to the end with no real indication as to what direction their relationship may go in. I was also pretty tired of the cryptic speech between the Earl and Raven all the time. It would've been nice if at least on ...more
