I was surprised by how much I ended up liking this book. Romance fails at least as often as it succeeds with me. And the cover art is nice, but a little overwrought. It actually does start slow. The first chapter was dull and felt too much like a dozen other series I've read before. But I stuck with it, because I was interested by the author's explanation of the title. It's about those brief moments in time when your point of view can change dramatically. That was enough to make me hopeful that ...more

So freaking cute!! Is Vol 2 out yet??? (scurries off to check)

When I first read the book blurb above, I thought it was pretty lame. After reading Strobe Edge, though, I think it very accurately and very succinctly describes this high school romance. Ninako is shy and reserved, and everyone thinks she and her childhood friend, Daiki will eventually get together. Daiki makes no secret of his feelings, but he has never voiced them, leaving Ninako, who is kind of clueless, thinking that they

Ninako is young, and has never been in love. But, the latter part is about to change.

Daiki is Ninako's childhood friend, and in his eyes, Ninako is the sheer picture of what love looks like. He cannot imagine himself ever being with anyone except her. You'd think he'd want to tell her right away, but no, he's too shy to confess.
All Ninako's gal pals are rooting for Ninako to get with Daiki. All Daiki's male buddies are rooting for him to get with Ninako. You'd think that's exactly what would

ALRIGHT! I do feel...that I have to redo this review for this book. WHY?

1. I reread the review I gave this thing in 2011 and.......this book seriously deserves a better review.
2. With more FEELING. more...more EMOTION.
3. More ALL CAPS.
4. MORE GIFS (since I finally learned how to insert them about a year ago)
5. MY LIBRARY HAS STROBE EDGE, WHOA. I didn't even know it was going to be released in the US but yet....'twas......

So. Let's us begin.

Okay. 1-5 star. FIVE STAR, FIVE?! THATS IT?! It should b

I've been keeping my eye on reviews regarding Strobe Edge ever since it debuted under Viz's Shojo Beat imprint. Those reviews have been fairly positive, and now that a handful of volumes are out, I decided to give the series a try myself.

What I discovered is a really enjoyable little story about discovering love for the first time. Our heroine, Ninako, is absurdly naive, but she makes up for this lack in her kindness. She is a very good, very kind person. Indeed, all of the characters thus far i

First all thanks, Dee Dee for recommending this manga to me!

I really enjoyed this first volume. Ninako was a bit of an idiot sometimes, but I really grew to like her in this volume.
I am really happy that she had the heart and guts to reject the guy who asked her out. I have read enough books/manga were that doesn't happen, so yeah for this one!

Ah Ren, Ren, Ren. Damn he was beautiful and yummy. Ok, so are a lot of the guys in the manga (if you see them), but Ren just tops them all. He is dark, m

I'm surprised by the simplicity of the story and how much I have come to like it. It is a simple love story between a girl, and a guy who is completely unavailable. I kept asking, "and what?" "you love him and you're... a vampire, magician, dead, what? That can't be it, right?" It took a while to get used to the idea of it being a normal story with no extra frills. haha!

Anyway, the story is fairly sweet and endearing. It explores the complexities of getting, maintaining, and letting go of relati

I don't remember when did I first read this manga. I think last two years ago? or something. But I absolutely love this series from the start. I like Ninako very much and of course, Ren!!!

Although I've yet to read a manga I've really disliked, I found Strobe Edge to be delightfully entertaining and super cute. It's hard to find a manga that just has romance instead of action and fantasy in it to keep my attention but this one did! It also ended on a cliffhanger which makes me want to read the second volume even more!

Ninako is a girl that is confused

The Deal: Ninako is a high school student that has never had any experience with love, sure she has a small crush on Ren, the most popular guy at school but all the girls in her grade find him dreamy - though it doesn't seem any of them have ever actually talked to him.

Things change when Ninako realizes they take the same train after school. Due to a small accident, they start talking, and soon Ninako is really falling in love.

All to the consternation of Daiki, Ninako's best friend who really h

I kind of expected to get a different story when I picked up Strobe Edge. Because that title is so cool sounding! I expected to find a sci-fi/action story, but this is actually a Shoujo romance school story.
It's cute, pretty predictable, and surprisingly self-contained. By the end of the volume, I felt like I had finished the whole story.
The volume is pretty light on the comedy and overblown humor that you usually find in manga, and so the story feels more d

A really sweet series from start to finish. I was a tad skeptical at the start of volume 1, since our main teen heroine (Ninako Kinoshita) came across as dumber than a door knob. But she evolved pretty quickly into just a sweet, energetic, extremely naive young woman. The full series reminds me of a "lighter" version of something like Kimi ni Todoke - we follow the various romance escapades of a group of interrelated young high school students. And as happens in any high school/teen age group, t ...more

As far as Ninako is concerned, Ren’s super cool handsomeness places him on a different level--he's an unapproachable celebrity, someone to admire from afar. It’s not until a misstep on a train that Ninako begins to see through Ren’s “pop star” status. The more glimpses she catches of the real Ren the more Ninako’s feelings begin to evolve from gushy schoolgirl crush to the purity of first love.

I have to admit, at the start I thought Ninako was kind of wishy washy, that she was too willing to let

Ninako and Daiki have been friends forever. They became especially close when she helped him through his parents' divorce. Because of their close friendship, everyone thinks Ninako and Daiki should be a couple. But Ninako isn't sure if she feels the same way about Daiki that he feels about her. Especially when she starts to get to know Ren, the most popular boy in the school. Ren is aloof, broody and mysterious. As the story progresses, Ninako starts to see some chinks in Ren's armor and realize ...more

Series rating: 4.0 stars!

It was a really fun read! I did this especially when it came to the end.
I was annoyed in the first parts because the Ren-kun already had a girlfriend but yeah, can't argue if that's the plot. In the first parts, I also did think that Daiki will become one of the hurdles of Ren and Ninako's blooming romance (eheh.) but uh, he ended up with Sayuri (I must say, he moved on pretty fast huh.)

Though, I did like it how persevering Andou-kun was in trying to win Ninako's affec

Sakisaka, Io. Strobe Edge. VIZ Media, 2013.

Ninako is in love with Ren, but he's already dating someone. And another boy likes Ninako, but she's only interested in Ren and continually turns down Boy #2. This is the entire plot for at least the first six of these books. Ninako is obsessed with Ren, who thinks she's nice and all but is already dating and isn't looking for someone new.

This book irritated the fire out of me. The first volume was bad enough with this, "I love Ren!! He's so cute! I wa

I absolutely love Io Sakisaka! The art and story line of strobe edge is amazing. Once you start reading strobe edge you just can't stop reading and it's one of those series that you keep reading over and over again. If you're a mangaka who likes shojo manga, then I would definetly recommend this series. This is a must read!

Ninako has never known what love is until she meets Ren. He’s the guy that almost every girl loves. After a few brief encounters, she finds her caring for Ren and starting to experience love. The more she asks her friends about love the more they think she is talking about her friend, Daiki.

She doesn’t know what to do when Daiki confesses that he loves her. Her friends already expect them to get together, but she can’t stop having feelings for Ren. Will she be able to sort her feelings for a guy

I probably wouldn't like this as much if it weren't such a quick read, but as is, the whole thing goes by so fast I don't mind that there's practically no plot and it's all about feelings. Ninako is an easily swayed girl who is trying to figure out who she is and what she feels - particularly her feelings towards Daiki, her long-time good guy friend and towards Ren, the pop star-like guy who all the girls at her school worship. By accident, Ninako has caught Ren's attention causing her to realiz ...more

So I'll say it's okay. It's popular. But I have issues with it. Ninako is ignorant when it comes to love. At first, she thinks she may be in love with her friend Daiki because "he's a nice guy, and it's fun being around him." But then the hot guy of the school, Ren, talks to her after he bumps into her on the train after school. And, from then, on, it's all about her ca

This is the first volume in the Strobe Edge series. It is about a Ninako, a level-headed high-schooler, who falls in love with the school heartthrob, Ren. Nina has a friend, Diaki, who confesses his love for her but Nina has realized that she cares about Ren. She turns Diaki down and he's obviously broken hearted but he takes it well. Ren in turn rejects Nina because he already has a girlfriend.

This book is a manga so you have to read it from back to front and the pages from right to left. It's

Yet another shoujo to add to my favorites .-. It slightly reminds me of High School Debut, which is my second all time favorite. But Ren definitely reminds me a bit of Yoh.

This is the end all be all of triangle relationships in the manga I've read.

Let's see... You have the MC who falls in love with the most popular boy in school, though she thought she might like one of her classmates. Said classmate likes her back. MC's BFF is in love with the MC's classmate (the one who loves the MC.) Of course, popular boy falls for MC but doesn't show it because he's got a girlfriend already. Then another random 'cool guy' enters the stage that falls in love with the MC... Oh

Well, actually I was cheering for Daiki but he soon disappeared from the plot! Guess what, he eve
