There are instructions on creating each particular stitch and step-by-step diagrams. I wish there were also photographs of the final result. This is the third book I borrowed whose author has studied at the Royal School of Needlework. I found this disappointing because of it's size and it's attempt to present everything. Chapters on various embroidery techniques and examples. Also covers some other needlework techniques like needlelace, quilting and smocking. A nice reference but it would be more complete with patterns to practice.

A gorgeous book covering any kind of embroidery you can imagine, with tutorials and beautiful pictures of work from textile artists around the world. I've been embroidering for over 20 years, and there's a lot of new stuff in here for me. The hard part is going to be deciding which to try first.
