Im starting to think Im going through a negative bout of reading. I keep picking up books, expecting brilliant stories, only to be disappointed. Here I was hoping this one would change my mind on the matter, however The Offering merely reinforced such thinking.

The idea of the story really caught my attention. It sounded like a thrilling suspense read. Alas, before I finished the first chapter I knew it would be hard for me to get into the story. Dont get me wrong, it wasnt as bad as I initially

Voodoo or Vodou or is it Vodu? A syncretic religion which combines various thought and belief systems with different schools of thought on practice. It has spirits and gods and blood sacrifices - maybe or maybe not.
This novel is set on the Big island of Hawaii with a veritable TV cast of characters - a naive and vulnerable teenager; a family split with a new boyfriend who was the father's cop partner; a 'mad' villain looking to cleanse himself through a religious sacrifice; some billionaires who

I received this book by netgalley as a read to review. I gave this book 4 stars because I just love Hawaii. I loved jake and Amanda they compliment each other so well. It was a very sad story towards the end but had that thriller feeling to it... I didn't like that the author had to quickly add things to leave it open for a next book. Carlos made me so sad because of what he had to endure and because he was so naive and easily manipulated. The lengths a person will go to eliminate someone are ...more

I wasnt certain about this book when I read the synopsis, but the book was an enjoyable read after all. The writing was okay, and the plot was enjoyable. I liked the whole voodoo cult part. The characters couldve been better developed though.

Unfortunately, what started as a reasonable book became so unbelievable that it felt rather annoying. How can you have any level of suspense build up during the search, when you have someone who can just magically find their way to the kidnapped people? By the time there is a confrontation, you know that the blessed couple will just magically make it out of there.
A good point was the twist, but this was unfortunately signposted rather early so it came as no surprise to us. The writing was rather

I think I give this one only 1 star, if that. I did not like this book. I skipped through huge, huge chunks of this book just to see what happened. It always irritates me when the main characters are so perfect in every way and they have all the money in the world to do what ever they want and this was Jake and Amanda Bannon. To find out that the father was the bad guy wasn't really much of a surprise either. I started figuring that out early on. I have another title by this author and I am not ...more

Jake and Amanda are the perfect couple, rich, intelligent, business savvy, and Amanda has a sixth sense that has helped them in the past solve crimes. Amanda and Jake are strong, brave and strongly in love, they share everything.

They are in Hawaii relaxing when their neighbor in Canada Bernie Wright calls with a request for Amanda and Jake's help. Bernie is a Mountie in Canada and knows of Amandas gift; his daughter Taylor, ex-wife Gail, and his ex Mountie partner & Gails new love interest,
I was lucky enough to be given the first two book in this series to read in exchange for an honest review via NetGalley. Id like to express my thanks to the authors, publishers and NetGalley for this as they were a real treat! If you like your mystery thrillers to have a touch of religion, paranormal abilities and romance, these books will be ideal for you!

Jake and Amanda are rich, intelligent, adventurous and very much in love with each other. Amanda is also clairvoyant which can prove useful
I received this book via Net Gallery in exchange for an honest review. The author is clearly an accomplished business woman from the details in her 'About the Author'. However, unlike most writers, she did not mention her interest in or experience of writing. It felt a curious omission and led to the impression, given that she is half of a power couple herself, that there was an element of wish fulfilment as she inserted her avatar into the middle of an adventure. Of course, many writers do but ...more

Amanda and Jake Bannon are a dream team of unusual crime fighters. Amanda is clairvoyant, she senses things and can see visions. Jake, her husband and counterbalance would like to be just vacationing when some of their friends are kidnapped. That instantly involves them for a few reasons, one of which is their friends were not too far from where they were in Hawaii when they vanished. The phone call from Canada, where they normally are, is from a neighbor and it is his ex-wife and daughter, ...more

I was looking forward to reviewing this book due to the promises of the bio, but could not enjoy the flow of reading or continuity of storyline due to the stilted and formal style of writing. It felt as though the author had taken a great idea and was writing it according to the rules dictated to school second language learners, which felt rather jarring.
While some background is delved into in a few of the characters I found the rest needed more development.
Jake and Amanda (who has occasional

I am in love with this book and the two main Why? well let me tell you! First, how gorgeous is this book cover. It makes me think of a tattoo or dark incredibly apropos for this story! Second, I think the hashtag #relationshipgoals was made for Amanda and Jake. They are fantastic. Seriously, if there is a way to be them or know people like them ..I want to sign up for it! Another book that I am conflicted about -- The idea and setting for the book are intriguing. It's a super fast read. There is a plot twist that I did not see coming that elevated the book from two to three stars. What I found most annoying about this book was Jake and Amanda -- the two main characters. There are lots of details about them that are designed to build their back story, but I felt like I was being told about them, not shown them and what I was told only served to make them feel like ...more

I was kindly granted a complimentary copy of this book from netgallery and had really high hopes for it. The story tells of a married couple Jake and Amanda Bannon who enjoy the good life. Money would appear to be no object and they have close connections in order to obtain cutting edge hi-tec equipment which aids them in assisting the call for help they receive. I felt as though the novel was written by two different people. The parts appertaining to Jake and Amanda, with her psychic ability, ...more

I received book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I wanted to read the first book before the 2nd in the series to get a feel for the main characters, Jake and Amanda Bannon. This affluent, happily married couple, are solving mysteries in their spare time, whether they want to or not. Reminded me of other fictional mystery solving married couples (Jonathan and Jennifer Hart, Nick and Nora Charles). I get it, which is why I wanted to read this novel because I like characters ...more

A perfectly good light beach read and I would recommend it for anyone looking for that. It has a feeling of the 80's TV series Hart to Hart, featuring a wealthy couple who like solving mysteries with the use of some expensive toys/gadgets. The story develops in Hawaii, and it would have been nice to get more of a feel for the area, whilst they search for the missing daughter of a friend from home. There are no great surprises in the plot but it moves along at a fair pace. It just feels a little ...more

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an e-ARC of this book

I really struggled through the first half of the book. It got better
but not great. Too many details about climbing and flying that added
nothing to the story line except to explain how talented Amanda and
Jake were. Interesting plot twists at the end but unnecessary
gratuitous violence. The characters were not fully developed and
did not come across as "real" people. I mostly just wanted it to be
over. It is so disappointing when a

I loved the story and the characters.
Jake and Amanda being my favourites.

Didn't see that coming.
Can't wait for book 2.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I liked the premise of the book and the story, but it felt like I had been dumped into the middle of a series and was having to catch up on characters and past storylines. It was a decent book overall, but the plot had quite a few holes in it.

I couldn't finish this book. From the very beginning, the writing felt stilted. The very small amount of dialogue was okay, but the excessive descriptions were difficult to get through. The main characters were not believable and I could not make myself waste anymore time on this book.

I received this book through NetGalley for an honest review.

I liked this book! The first chapter did not grab took a couple chapters to really get into the story. Loved the twist of who the bad guy was. The interactions between Jake and Amanda added interest. Overall a good story.

I got this book on Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this light read. It is a perfect beach read. I flew through it, wanting to know what would happen next. I thought it quite interesting that Amanda is psychic. I hope this will evolve into a series of books because I enjoyed the main characters.

I think this book will appeal to both men and women and is suitable for ages middle school and up.

Jake and Amanda Bannon are vacationing in Hawaii when they get a call from friends in Canada whose daughter has disappeared. The duo set out into the Hawaiian "wilderness" , if there is such a thing, and become embroiled with a vodoo cult planning to use their friend's daughter as an offering to appease the gods. This novel was just not my cup of tea.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

The plot moved quickly and kept my attention. But I don't really like the main characters. They didn't really seem to have any depth. The author kept throwing in details and stories about their past and their previous exploits. But there were so many, I felt like I had missed an earlier book.

An absorbing thriller with Amanda and Jake up to their usual tricks, with Amandas' psychic powers, deviating them from their proposed path. Great storyline with strong characters. Completely unexpected ending which was justice of a sort. Great read.

While I enjoyed reading this book and was somewhat surprised when the "twist" was revealed, it was a little bit slow for me. I had already guessed that Taylor's father was somehow involved in the kidnapping of Taylor, her mother, and her boyfriend.

Fast moving suspense with a tiny touch of paranormal. Likable characters with a twist at the end. This is the first book in the series followed by 'The Congregation'.
