A voice in the dark, crying for life. For love. For your acknowledgement. Perhaps, not even for your acceptance. But for you to notice she is there.
That is what I see among the desperate lines of one intense poet. Her exceptionally evocative poetry left me in awe, once more. Her words are always yearning for something, fighting against isolation until there is nothing else to feel.
Pizarnik, or the hunger for passion.

a nice prelude to her more comprehensive, forthcoming (and much-anticipated!) extracting the stone of madness: poems 1962 - 1972 , alejandra pizarnik's fourth collection, diana's tree (árbol de diana y otros poemas), is a slim work of ethereal yearning, muted pleading, and resigned observation. a beautiful, if fragile, work from the argentine poet, dead by her own hand at the age of 36.

I discovered Alejandra Pizarnik's poetry last year and after devouring her poetry collection Extracting the Stone of Madness: Poems 1962 - 1972 thrice, I was desperate to read more of her stunning poetry. Diana's Tree is a very slim collection with very short, but very wonderful poems!
I hope, I'll be able to find more of her work in translation.

Born in Buenos Aires to Russian parents who had fled Europe and the Nazi Holocaust, Alejandra Pizarnik was destined for literary greatness as well as an early death. She died from an ostensibly self-administered overdose of barbiturates on 25 September 1972. A few words scribbled on a slate that same month, reiterating her desire to go nowhere "but to the bottom," sum up her lifelong aspiration as ...more
