Her choice to become a firefighter lit the spark, fueled by discrimination and her own determination, which created a backdraft in its wake. This is the story of one woman's journey o ...more

This book is for those in non-traditional careers, individuals seeking to improve managerial skills, leaders, those engaged in self-discovery and self-improvement, and women. It is heartwarming, honest, and raw. Hall fully exposes her fears and doubts as well as her desires and joys, merging emotion with fact. Her stories about firefighting are fantastically gripping and her stories about discrimination are eye-popping.

Hall recognizes there are no clear answers to dealing with difficult issues

The author boldly but tastefully empowers women through her own experiences as a firefighter foraging her own way through a male dominated field. She faced gender bias and cruel and calculated actions from supervisors and coworkers. But Geldbach-Hall continued her singular mission of changing the atmosphere and working conditions in behalf of other female firefighters.

I would have loved to have read even more specific stories of the author's struggles during her hard fought journey for equality.

This is a well-written account of one woman's battle against the unjust policies of the fire department that she worked for and the personal demons that she had to exorcise along the way. The insight that she shares, along with the struggles along her journey at the fire department, were invaluable. I also loved the way that she told her anecdotes about the various experiences that she had. In particular, I thought that she selected the perfect quotes for her chapters, too.

This is a journey of being a pioneer in the fire service. What it took to survive and ultimately thrive. A must read for all that have had struggles and just needed to know they weren't alone. Using humor, candor, and big dose of reality, she transformed her life into one worth living. A must read!!!
