Stephanie Boyd is a divorced mother of 2. While on a camping trip in the woods she and the children hear a horrible accident and run to see if they can help. What they walk into is a hijacking of a semi-truck. To make matters worse it seems her ex husband, who works for the local police dept , and the Sheriff are in on the heist.

After seeing the driver shot by the sheriff her ex husband begs Stephanie to take the kids and to try and get away why he distracts them. But after they kill the sheriff they also kill her ex husband. Steph and the kids do manage to get away and make it to the Pennsylvania State Police Department.

It turns out what Steph witnessed was the Russian Mafia robbing a US Treasury shipment. The FBI and Treasury dept have been trying to catch these guys for a while but have never been able to prove that the Russian Mafia is behind the hijackings. Turns out Steph is the first person to ever see them which makes her very a very important witness for both the FBI and the Treasury Dept but also put a bulls eye on her head along with her kids.

FBI agent John Dolton has lost a lot in his life. First his wife and kids and then recently his best friend and partner in the line of duty who was closing in on Russian Mafia. He really wants to bring them down and convinces Steph to help them try and identify who the shooter was. But what they don’t know is that the Mafia has mole inside the U.S. Treasury and also some law enforcement officers in their pockets.

As Steph is the first and only break John has had in solving the case that cost him his family and his partner he makes it his sole mission to make sure nothing happens to these kids and Steph. But keeping his witnesses safe seems impossible when their every move is foreseen by their enemy. John struggles with Steph and her kids at first as they remind him of the family he has lost. After 2 years he never thought he would feel anything again but he finds himself attracted to Steph and warming up to the kids.

The author did a fantastic job of keeping you guessing who the mole was in the dept. I went back and forth so many times on who it was. You were also on the edge of your seat pretty much from beginning to end with all the attempts on their lives. This was my first time reading this authors but it won’t be my last.

This is like a lot of other romantic suspense stories. It was ok but had some plot weaknesses.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
It’s not top quality, but it’s readable if you’re looking for romantic suspense. There was nothing special or different about it, but it was ok. The major weaknesses are in the ending climactic scenes. (1) The bad guy wants to kill the good guys and has two perfect chances to do it, but the bad guy decides to wait. The bad guy wants to tell the good guys how clever he is and what he’s done in the past and gloat (before killing the good guys). This reminded me of too many poorly made movies. (2) I had a similar problem with another scene in Spoilers below. (3) The hero does something stupid which should have gotten him killed, except the bad guy wanted his little gloating talk first. (4) I had a problem with how the bad guy found Steph at the third location. It was confusing, too easy, and others should have suspected something but they didn’t. (5) I wanted more details and showing the workings inside the Treasury Department which gave Randall so much knowledge. He seemed too able to do things without anyone raising questions.

The romantic development was pretty good. Don’t expect much sex. There was just enough, mildly done, to show the couple falling for each other.

Minor annoyance, publisher’s fault: The cover picture is wrong. John has dark brown hair curled at his shirt collar. Cover guy has a crew cut in back.

STORY BRIEF:
Steph and her two children are camping and hear a truck accident on the nearby highway. Steph is a nurse and goes to help. When she arrives she sees a hijacking with bad guys killing the driver. Her ex-husband Gene is a cop who was in on it. But when bad guy Victor started to kill Steph, Gene told her to run while he provided cover fire. Victor then killed Gene. Steph and the kids go to the local police where she meets FBI agent John and Treasury agent Alex. They take her and the children undercover to a safe house until they can catch Victor and the other bad guys. A crime family has inside information about when and how the Treasury Department is shipping coins – worth a million dollars in each truck. Leaks continue to occur with repeated attempts to kill Steph. John and Steph start falling for each other.

CAUTION SPOILERS (I don’t give away bad guy identities):
A bad guy needs to kill the witness. The witness is in a hospital room with police guards. Bad guy creates a distraction so he can enter the room. If I were the bad guy, I would quickly shoot with a silencer and then run off before someone noticed me. Does this guy do that? No, he starts talking to the witness, which gives someone else time to enter the picture.

I would have liked more information at the end showing justice and some suffering by the bad guys including the crime family. All we hear is that two of them are arrested.

DATA:
Story length: 252 pages. Swearing language: moderate, including religious swear words. Sexual language: mild. Total number of sex scenes: 2. Total number of sex scene pages: 8. Setting: current day mostly Pennsylvania. Copyright: 2009. Genre: romantic suspense.

I am just enthralled with Jordon's writing. Her characters are stellar as is her writing. She makes putting down her book for any reason nigh impossible. She is an auto-buy for me!

Stephanie is a mother of two and separated from her husband. All she wants to do is be strong for her children, taking them on a camping trip to show them that life will still go on. Things go bad quickly as an accident near the campgrounds drops Stephanie in the middle of a deadly situation. She learns two devastating secrets: first that her husband has been lying to her and second she's stumbled upon evidence of a local crime ring, and she's the only one who can identify Victor, one of the masterminds behind it all.

John is a cop who's been through hell and back. He's lost his partner and his family to his job, but he hides his tortured soul well and quickly becomes a rock for Stephanie and her family as they're forced to go into witness protection.

What I really loved about this story was the characters. Both John and Stephanie were very strong and realistic people, dealing with life and coming to terms with the mistakes of their past, while thrown into dangerous situations that were out of their control. Also in stories with children, it's important that they're realistically portrayed and integral to the story. John's interactions with Stephanie's children were heartwarming and they really gave a sense that somehow, these people had formed a family while on the run.

In between dodging bullets and explosions, John and Stephanie fall for each other in a romance that grew deeper as they came to know more about one another. I thought the book was nicely balanced and look forward to reading more from Autumn Jordan.

Autumn Jordon’s fabulous romantic suspense, Evil’s Witness, is a real nail biter and I mean that literally. I should have worn gloves while reading. This fast-paced story with all of its twists and turns captured my attention from the start and held me riveted to the end. Both the central characters, FBI agent John Dolton and young nurse/divorced mother Stephanie Boyd, were so well fleshed out it felt as if I could sit down and have coffee with them, and I liked each of them–John for sure, very hot while still being appealingly male–but also Stephanie, which isn’t always the case. She’s a strong heroine, but not over the top beyond all possibility–a pet peeve of mine. Nor did the author rely on creating a bitchy female to provide conflict; there’s plenty in the couple’s past and present circumstances to assure plenty of roadblocks. The romance between them was palpable and convincing, the chemistry sizzled.

The secondary characters were also well crafted and supported the story. They weren’t just along for the ride. As for the villain(s), chillingly realistic, but I definitely don’t want to have coffee with them. I haven’t read much romantic suspense, normally being drawn to historical, but I’ve seen plenty of movies in this genre and Evil’s Witness would make a super movie. I really enjoyed this book and give it a high-five!

Stephanie and her two children are at the wrong place and time and witness something that they shouldn't. They are taken into to the protection of FBI agent John. John had been working on this case and Stephanie is their only real lead. Many things go wrong and I was kinda bummed because the mole was pretty obvious to me. I had that person figured out from the moment it stepped onto the page. I wish that it was more of a surprise. This book was fast paced and full of action. I loved it. I really enjoyed the slow process of John and Stephanie falling in love. John's past was so very sad. But with Stephanie and her children he seemed to slowly heal.I loved that John was willing to let go of the pain and move on and that made it all the more sweet. Ok my one complaint was that the ending needed a little something more. Maybe and Epilogue. I hope that there will more books and maybe turn into a series.

I'll be honest. I like suspense. I like romance. But I usually don't like them together. But I did like this one, mainly because it was paced very well. The writing is tight and the dialogue realistic. I think all the reactions by the heroine to be very much how I would feel- a whole range of emotions, but mostly the need to keep her kids safe. The romance may seem to blossom quickly but I think under the circumstances, it is believable. I also enjoyed the interactions with the children. Obviously, Ms. Jordan is well acquainted with children and their "needs."

It's a top-notch book and I can certainly see why it has won several awards. This author could easily duck into mystery/suspense writing with her believable, tight plot, but I'm glad she didn't. The love story was a beautiful part of the book.

I think even my dad would enjoy this one :)

I loved this book!! Action-packed right from the beginning. Suspense & thrills, an awesome 'who can I trust?' Ride. With charaters you could not help but fall in love with & a strong family bond. Throw in some tear inducing moments & a sweet, if not abrupt HEA and you have a great story. Loved it

3.5 STARs- Romantic suspense story with a woman on the run being protected by a FBI agent struggling to get over a terrible loss. Novella length, lower steam than I normally read, but overall a pretty good read for a quick story I picked up free.

This was an action packed romance with a touch of suspense.

When Stephanie witnesses a horrific crime, FBI agent John Dalton is out in charge of protecting her and her two children. John is no stranger to heartache but somehow Stephanie worms her way into his heart. John will to anything to protect Stephanie and her kids, but can her discover where the leak is before harm comes to them all?

His Witness to Heal was an easy read, if slightly predictable. I loved that the author kept the mole a bit of a mystery throughout the book, even when written from its third person POV; unfortunately though I wish they would have stretched out the “unknown” for a bit longer. I loved how the relationships between John and the Boyd family seemed natural and unforced.

This was another freebie ebook and I really enjoyed it. I did figure out who the mole was pretty quick but that didn't make the story any less enjoyable! In the book, Stephanie is camping with her children and they stumble upon quite the crime scene. In an effort to keep her safe while also using her to get information, John must whisk her away to a safe house. Here the thriller part of the book begins to take a back seat to romance and I did begin to lose interest but the author made sure to keep bringing the bad guys into the story and that kept me from putting the book down. If you like romance novels- the romance in this probably didn't start soon enough to keep you reading. If you're like me and prefer crime/suspense/thriller type books, the book will pull you in quickly and I think you will enjoy the book. If you like a mix of romance and suspense, this just might be the perfect book for you.

Well, my first impression is...Thank the Heavens I've never needed the FBI for anything because if this book is a representation of their efficiency, I'd be dead by now. Seriously. I don't even have a problem with John because even though he wasn't perfect, he really did try to do everything he could to protect them all. What I did have a problem with was how easy it was to find info by the bad guys. I mean, Ben asked a rookie cop to find him an important phone number. The mole later used that cop to find the location of the cabin. How careless was that? They knew there was a mole inside. Ben should've never have given that task to that cop. No wonder they always knew where the family was...they were crap keeping things under wraps. Anyway I did like the romance. It wasn't overwhelming and complemented everything well without overshadowing the main story. Nice HEA.

This was a enjoyable romantic suspense book, however, it offered nothing original in the way of storyline and was completely predictable. A divorced mom and kids in the wrong place at the wrong time witness a mob hit. They are able to get away and into a witness protection situation, whereby the lead agent sent to cover them falls for the mom (after suffering the loss of his wife, daughter and partner) while trying to bring down this mob family - and the mom, in turn, falls for him. They know there are spies for the family inside the agency, which keep them on the run. It all happens too fast, the double agent is obvious and closure comes too easy, but it was a fun & entertaining enough read nonetheless.

An enjoyable romance/suspense book featuring an intrepid divorcee with 2 kids who inadvertently becomes involved in Russian mob proceedings, witnessing both a truck heist and several murders, in cluding her ex-husband. This gets her involved with the FBI and the Treasury department, and someone is a mole feeding information that is going to get her killed!

Good

Stephanie, a divorced mother of two, witnesses a murder. Her ex arrives on the scene of the coin heist, which he is involved in, and is shot and killed. John is the FBI agent who's been after the thieves since they killed his partner. Now he must protect Stephanie and her kids while she tries to identify the traitors in the treasury department.

This was more of a 3 1/2 star book for me.

I had never previously heard of this author before I saw this book advertised as a freebie.
While I might not finish every single free read that I've downloaded, I actually managed to finish this one. For the most part, I found it to be very enjoyable.

I would probably recommend this to someone who likes reading a suspense-filled romance.

An ok read. More suspense than romance with the romance leaning towards less than believable, even for fiction. MAJOR flaw - did someone not proof read this one? The theme font changes several times during the bk. Annoying.

Good story. I am new to this author, but glad I picked it up and gave it a try. There is a lot of action and suspense in addition to the romance developing. Overall good read.
