This is a YA book that I felt was very well written. The descriptions in this story gave a clear picture on what the author was trying to get across. The idea of banished spirits that have to "feed" from human hosts in order to hide from their enemies is a unique concept and made for a very intriguing story. There were a lot of characters introduced in this book, and at times I found there to be too many to remember. There were a few that stood out very well though and made the book that much mo ...more

I have to say I LOVED this book! The writing is fantastic. Though technically a young adult book, Jacinta Maree writes with such attention to detail and is so descriptive that even adults can enjoy this great read.

The story centers around a teenager named Rachael who, upon the death of her father, inherits Lock, the banished spirit who haunted him to death. Lock and Rachael team together, along with other banished spirits and their hosts. to free Lock from the limbo that he's in by confronting e

Upon reading the synopsis for My Demonic Ghost, I was instantly intrigued and was excited when I was able to get an advanced copy of the book by the author. As a fan of the supernatural and paranormal genres, I love when a book brings a refreshing and original take into an idea that’s been used before which Jacinta Maree was able to do.

Let’s start off with what worked for My Demonic Ghost. The idea of a demon possessing a human is not a new concept but what if the demon didn’t possess you? What

As I began my adventure with Rachael I felt angered by the spirit who stole her father from her. At first I didn't buy into the premise that Rachael would turn to Lock's side so quickly after suffering that loss after understanding her father's illness was solely due to Lock choosing Rachael's father as his host.

That being said, I DID buy into Rachael and her courage, compassion, and understanding. She was a character who exuded strength and conviction even in her most uncertain and fearful mom

The story unfolds quickly when Rachel encounters Lock just moments after her father dies. Lock is a Banished Spirit, the ghost of young boy trying to uncover an entrance to the Third Realm, the final resting place for those not belonging in the traditional Heaven and Hell.

Rachel’s father was Lock’s Host, a human power supply and refuge from enemies of the Banished Souls. When Lock quickly attaches himself to Rachel’s soul, she learns the true fate of her father’s demise. Rather than fear the bu

Maree has taken the concept of demon possession to a new level with My Demonic Ghost. Dark and captivating as we follow the story of 15 year old Rachael Hastings (the host) and Lock (her demon).

When Rachael travels to Whitehaven to visit her ailing father who dies soon after she unwittingly becomes her father's demons new host. Lock links himself to her with a kiss, wrapping her in chains and tying her soul to him. As a banished spirit he must feed off a human host to remain in our realm. In a

Jacinta Maree offers the reader something that I truly love, Teenage Fiction filled with intrigue, passion and characters that are beautifully crafted and intrinsically developed. It was impossible not to be swept away by the tide of emotion and drama that poured off Jacinta Maree's wonderful pages.

As a harsh critique of dialogue, I was so very happy by the author's craft. Jacinta Maree created natural flowing dialogue that really helped to shape her characters and the wide variety of relationsh

Note: Book provided by author for review.

This was an action packed book full of hunters, the hunted and those who get caught in between. Although I am not an avid YA reader I enjoyed this book. The emotional journey of the heroine was well written and compelling. She was a young, but mature, lady who dealt with her own insecurities admirably.

There was a lot of action throughout the book but I found some of the fight scenes slightly confusing. They didn't seem to flow in my mind and I found I had

What a great read! this is a book that had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! It is well written and I enjoyed it so much. Rachael is a kick butt 15 year old who just so happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time! Her life gets thrown into a whole new world. One that she is not ready to believe in! After losing her dad she has to learn to trust the very one who has taken him from her. Together the must fight, fight to stay alive. They become so dependent on one another they start ...more

If there is anything I can truly appreciate as a reader, it's fresh ideas. Jacinta Maree's take on demons and possession doesn't disappoint.

When I first met 'Lock', I didn't like him, but as I feverishly turned the pages, my mind changed. I hurt for him, Rachel, and the losses they endured together.

The dimensions Jacinta created were rich with imagination and surprises. What more could I ask for?

How about new myths and legends I've never read before? Jacinta delivered that as well.

I really enjoyed this book and I loved how unique it was. There were so many neat details within the book and I loved how well they all tied together. The characters were well developed and I instantly cared about them and wanted to know what was going to happen next. The ending was good, sad, and left you wondering what would happen in the next book of the banished spirits series. I look forward to its release. I love ghost stories and this one was very interesting.

I want to discuss the amazing cover. I may be too much of an analyst when it comes to things like this but I can't help but see the symbolism plastered all over it. Jacinta did a fabulous job capturing the entirety of the book with just one picture. The blurring of the title is like a ghost dissolving into thin air. The beautiful young boy lurking with green eyes peeking at the reader from behind his hand makes us wonder can this dazzling creature be a demon? His hand covering his face says to m ...more

Quite fancied the synopsis of this book and glad I read it. It's YA so for the younger category than I usually read but was very enjoyable.

You meet Rachael while she's travelling to Whitehaven to visit her father for the first time in years. It's not something she looks forward to doing after he started going mad a few years ago but he's dying and she can't put the visit off any longer. Things are worse than she imagined though as he looks as if he's aged a decade and is living in squalor.

Rachel lives in a world with banished spirits where humans are their hosts, basically their food. She inherits her father’s ghost after his death. Instead of curling up in a ball or whining about it, she soldiers on trying to make it work for she and Lock. Lock is taken aback when she wants to help him. Rachel insists on an equal partnership as opposed to Lock feeding off her until she dies.

I loved the Whitehaven setting. Maree brilliantly paints a

Rachael goes to see her, supposedly crazy, father in Whitehaven. When he dies, she finds out why he was crazy, or wasn't. The inheritance she receives from her father is not what she would have expected. Rachael finds herself saddled with, literally, a spirit. Lock is a banished spirit who must have a human host in order to not be sent back to hell. Unfortunately for the host, while he shares their body, he also suck the life out of them. She is not the typical host though, she wants to help, bu ...more

I received this book as an arc for a review and I loved it. I couldn't put it down.

The main character is 16 year old Rachael. She visits her dad, whom everyone thinks is crazy, after he claims there is a evil demon spirit that has attached it's self to him. Even Rachel thinks her father is crazy but decides to go and visit him anyways. After her father dies,Rachael finds out that everything her father told her turns out to be true.

Filled with a world of demon possession and the banishment of souls, My Demonic Ghost is a fresh take on the afterlife. Although we only see a sliver of that cleverly created world, religion is sidestepped for the most part. There is a Creator and a hierarchy of souls and spirits, but since our view is limited to the story at hand, religion is not emphasized nor contradicted. Personally, being religious myself, I really liked this. And can I just say I love that the most powerful spirit in this ...more

When Rachel travels to see her dad, it ended up being more than a life changing event. His descent to psychosis has cost him hos whole life. In fact, Rachel is the only one who still cares at all. When she finds her dad dead on the morning after her arrival, it is no shock to her.
When the demonic spirit enters her body, that was the surprise of a lifetime. She seems adapt well to having Lock around. Lock on the other hand seems to actually be learn

My Demonic Ghost is such an amazing book, the story is a new look on spirits/ghosts and is beautifully written. Within the first few chapters I became so attached to the characters Lock and Rachel and soon to the other characters as they were introduced. The imagery for almost every scene was astounding, not to mention the gorgeous cover. I have never read a book involving the Seven Sins', and in My Demonic Ghost they were a brilliant part of the plot. I could rant on all day about how much I lo ...more

My Demonic Ghost was just one of those books I couldn't put down. The characters are complex and you find yourself wanting to find out more about them. With a unique story line and a list of amazing characters, the plot can take you through some twists and turns. Jacinta's imagination is extraordinary, and her ability to write what she 'sees' for her characters is very well done. I especially liked the Sins.

I really enjoyed this book. If you are looking for something different from the typical YA book, this is it. This is a different take on the afterlife and the seven deadly sins than I have ever read. I love the characters of this book especially Rachel who is a young strong girl who won't be a victim. Jacinta Maree did a great job writing My Demonic Ghost and I can't wait to read more of her books.

What I liked: This book was wholey different from what I had expected when I started this book. Everything was different, from the characters, to how it began, to how it ended, and everything in between. Favourite line: I was nothing, lying on my back in a pool of shadows, untouchable and lost.

The imagination in this book is amazing. My Demonic Ghost is unlike any book I’ve read before. Its take on ghosts is original, and I mostly enjoyed the read.

After the death of her father, Rachael becomes ‘possessed’ by a banished spirit called Lock. Rachael doesn’t like the idea of Lock feeding from her and rapidly reducing her life span in order to hide from the Hunters—a group of angels who seek out bani
