This book provides a mixture of personal views of Donovan from a man who knew him, overview of his life, as well as a look at the establishment of the intelligence community.
It can be a bit dry, talking about his relationship with this general or that official or the appointments of so-and-so, but it still gives a nice glimpse at how the CIA came to be and how intelligence served us during war & peace. Also, a few exciting stories of spies doing what spies do.
Every book like this I read I take with a grain of salt, of course. Over time, a person can build a coherent picture of the society that operates within the intelligence community and this book is one that will add to that picture...just don't expect to be entertained the whole time.

Mr. Ford was very thorough not just in Donovan's OSS days, but with his days between the First and Second World Wars. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
