After the events of the last book, I knew this one would be heart wrenching and I was right. However, I do think that DS took it easy on us and even as much as I like emotional drama, I was thankful for that.

It was sooo hard reading about Miranda grieving and everything she was going through. Thank goodness for Stella. I really enjoy the element the witches have brought to the story even if it keeps it in line with the Vampire Diaries. Hopefully, more will come out of Miranda and Stella's conne

Although I have to say I really liked this book there is one thing that has been bothering me since the second book and it's just one of those things I have to write about. IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE SERIES DON'T READ FOR POSSIBLE SPOILERS

There are parts in books 2,3 and 4 that I just don't feel David's love for Miranda. I can definitely feel her love for David but there are parts where I just feel that David may have loved Deven more than he does Miranda, and every time David expresses scenes of l

Of Shadow Born is the fourth novel in the controversial Shadow World series and continues directly on from the the harrowing events of Shadow's Fall. Queen Miranda Grey-Solomon has been plucked from certain death by the witch Stella and it seems that Prime David Solomon is dead. (Or is he?...) Within the Shadow World there is chaos with takeover attempts, an usurped Prime seeking vengeance, the secret human group Morningstar looking to destroy and the brewing emergence of an ancient power. I love Dianne Sylvan's writing. She does grief and separation incredibly, graphically and heart wrenchingly. I really felt like I was there with the characters that were left behind in the stunning end of the last book, feeling their anguish and the pain of their losses. I'm glad the Shadow's Fall cliffhanger was dealt with long before the ending of the book-I don't think my heart could have handled the suspense. I find that I am amazed by the next level the story-how does she come up with these ...more

I really enjoy the world building in this series. Maybe I'm going easy because I read this series when it was fan-fiction for Vampire Diaries, but I've been happy with how she created an original novel series out of that.

In this book I thought the resolutions of the cliffhanger from the 3rd book were a bit rushed in the beginning, but by the halfway point, to me, the book came to an even pace. Of course there was a cliff hanger at the end, but I sort of figured that was going to happen; there w

One of my favorite series, Shadow World, just took a dramatic shift in direction. OF SHADOW BORN, Dianne Sylvan's fourth book in this series, features the well-drawn characters and emotional impact of its predecessors. Sylvan's characters are not static. In each book we see them evolve, often in ways they themselve don't anticipate. OF SHADOW BORN finds most of the lead characters grappling with change and searching for something. Some may even find it. Highly recommended.

Where can I start???? You know it's a great read when you have that afterglow, that funk you can't shake, that indecisiveness what to read next, that sadness and longing when the last word was read, and how to justify credits where it's due... Well, it's all of that feelings and then some.

I loved this series. First of all, the emotions drawn from this read were top notched. I started the read with an underlining ache, a yearning what to be written, waterwork pulled to the brim...

So much win! It left on a cliff hanger, OF COURSE. But it really was fantastic. Starting with Miranda dealing with the events of the last book, and all of the new revelations! I have no idea where this is going, and that makes me so excited. The only other thing I have to say about this book...The Oncoming Storm

I just found this book a little predictable, it might just be that I've read too many similar books but I've had enough of main characters who are more powerful than everyone else- so powerful that they don't have to follow the 'rules' of the magic in their world and when something bad happens the rules get rewritten in their favour.

I loved being back in this world. Miranda is one hell of a strong character, her grief was heart wrenching and yet inspiring. The plot is engaging with lots of twists, it had me hooked from beginning to end, its'a page turner. Can't wait for the next one :-)

I loved the book, although it was heartbreaking at first until David came back from the dead! Can't wait for the next book to find out what Morningstar is up to.

I've gotten past my hang ups about this series and really enjoyed this novel. The introduction of Olivia's character was a good addition to the main four characters. I wish we had some more time with Jacob and Cora, since they are becoming more important. What we got of the Council gathering was not nearly enough time. I love Stella as a main character, and I hope she has a bigger role to play in the series as well. Honestly, a lot went on in this book, and events will either make the series str ...more

The unspeakable has happened. At the end of Shadow's Fall, Jeremy broke David's signet, killing him and separating Miranda from her soulmate. Signet bearers are not meant out live each other and the grief nearly kills Miranda. Were it not for the intervention of Stella, a witch and long time fan of her music, Miranda might well have died. Deven and Johnathon show up to help Miranda run Haven and keep her sanity but all feel the grief and loss of David. Fortunately for them all, David isn't actua ...more

I'm going to attempt to get through this review without too many spoilers. First I must say that I've really come to like our heroine, Miranda. For a time I thought she was pretty weak for accepting David back after his huge indiscretion with Deven. But I'm starting to view her differently. This woman has balls of steel! I really like that Ms.Sylvan has changed direction a bit and made her a leader capable of handling herself in the worst situations. She's actually developing several strong fema ...more

Note: While spoiler-free for the current title, this review does include reference key events in previous books.

When I started reading this series back in 2010 my first impression was that it was rather clichéd. We had a lonely immortal vampire and a “gifted” mortal who thought she was going insane because of her gift.

What did pique my interest was the musical aspect of the book. Miranda has the ability to emotion

“You died . . . I felt you die . . . the others saw you . . . you went to dust . . . there was nothing left but a shadow.” Softly, he smiled. “And of shadow I was reborn.”

Shadow's Fall ended on one hell of a cliffhanger and this series is getting more interesting by the book. The first half of the book was pretty heartbreaking because Miranda is dealing with the fallout from the previous book. David is presumed dead and she is still alive which isn't right, because if a Prime falls, the queen do

First off - my reviews never give any synopsis of the storyline. I figure that enough reviews have that feature that I need not bother. I also do not really recommend trying to read this book without having read the first three. I think you will miss a lot of the backstory which makes the characters so much more likable.

Second off - my Kindle broke on a Saturday (I immediately ordered a new one), but I voluntarily read 95% of this book on my iphone. Let me tell you, that's no small feat consider

After the end of Shadow’s Fall, I was anxiously awaiting the release of this book. I needed to know how Dianne Sylvan was going to fix what she had done in Shadow’s Fall and how she was possibly going to explain the way it ended. I wasn’t disappointed with the way things played out either. This series has always been a solid 4 star series for me and it continues to be so. Although sometimes Miranda is annoying, I love David and their relationship. I think Miranda has a lot of potential and mostl ...more

I'm kinda on the fence about this one. I liked it, but there were a few weird parts. It was no stretch to guess that David does not stay dead and that Miranda doesn't die with him. I went into OF SHADOW BORN wondering how long it was going to take to finally show that David was alive and I'm glad to say that it wasn't super long.

I really do love Miranda and David as a couple. A few books ago David really messed up and I honesty wanted to throw up during that time as I was reading but they have g

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Associate Reviewer - Kathy M:

Of Shadow Born is the 4th book in Dianne Sylvan’s The Shadow World series, and I must first just say OMG!!!! This is one of my favorite series because of Ms. Sylvan’s fantastic world building and her ability to grab the reader and take them on an emotional and action packed ride.

Of Shadow Born takes up with the killer cliff hanger from the prior book, Shadow’s Fall, and it’s full speed ahead. Miranda and David, Queen and Prime of t
