About the author

Alyssa Satin Capucilli was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1957. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College, and pursued her interest in dance, becoming a professional dancer and dance instructor. Though Capucilli had written stories, poems, and even puppet shows as a child, she didn't consider a career as a writer until after her own two children were born. To this day she sees herself as both a dancer and a writer, and the two professions complement each other nicely: dancing is, in her words, “telling stories in another way,” and readers of her children's books can attest to the rhythm of her language. Since 1994, she has written more than 15 books for children, and her work has been translated into French, Hebrew, Afrikaans, Greek, and Bulgarian.

Capucilli lives in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, with her husband and children. They have a chocolate Labrador retriever named Huckleberry, who likes to watch the author at work.

This is a beautiful Biscuit book! We love our Level My First Biscuit books, they are probably the first ones we fell in love with. Every single illustration in this book is lovely and full of pastel and vibrant spring colors. It's a perfect read for just starting with things to bloom. It is also fun, with the typical Woof Woof Biscuit conversation that sent both of my girls into echoes and giggles. The other fun thing about this one is all the birds through out. Plenty to provide counting practice and color options too. We love Biscuit and this one is a great one.

Beginning Reader Picture Book

Absolutely my four year old's favorite of the Biscuit series! We have dogs who dig in the garden, knock over bags of bird food, and demand immediate attention--just like Biscuit! We love ending the day reading about Biscuit's adventures! Even more enjoyable-she is now able to identify some of the words!

A lovely Spring romp in the garden!

It is Spring time and Biscuit is in the garden! See the lovely flowers and cute little birds in this fun, seasonal 'easy-reader'!

Oh my son loved it. He just stared at the colors and especially the birds. He loves the noises of Biscuit and all his friends, the tweets in this one made him smile. Great book for toddlers I think.

This book is a part of the I Can Read collection which is a series of transitional books. Transitional books are great for early readers or children with no reading experience because the text is simple and there are very few words to a page with large, basic illustrations. For each exciting thing the girl points out in the garden, Biscuit answers with a “Woof! Woof!” Once birds are introduced, there’s a cacophony of tweets to add to the woofs. Emergent readers will have fun with these sound words, which are reinforced through repetition, and with the other basic one- and two-syllable words throughout.

Biscuit is Love

What a wonderful Early Reader for the 4-8 year olds. This cute story will help the beginning reader to love Biscuit books. Biscuit in the Garden reminds me of all the smiles I use to see on my reading groups faces when I was in the grade school system when I pulled out Biscuit books. Biscuit book is love in a little bundle of pages that all beginning readers will become successful.

Biscuit is cute as ever in this book and gets into his usual adorable shenanigans, but the thing that stands out the most to us are the illustrations! Pat Schories really outdid herself with this one!

🍎 We love the Biscuit stories for teaching text structure and HOW we read. The younger kids look out for the “woof woof” and “tweet tweet” and read them all by themselves when it’s their turn! For even more fun, one kid can be the birds and one bird can be Biscuit :)

Biscuit and his little girl are working in the garden. They see several critters, and when Biscuit "helps" with the bird seed, they see lots of birds.

Ahh, Biscuit, what a very believable puppy you are. Bird lovers should enjoy the results of his mess. Gardeners will likely cringe. Nice, simple text for beginning readers.

This was the bedtime pick for the night for my 2 year old. We read it three times and his favorite parts would be whenever I nudged him to bark like Biscuit. I tried getting him to tweet like the birds too but he pretended the birds barked as well and would crack up laughing. It’s because of my experience reading this book with him that made this one of my favorites.

I love biscuit hooks for my young readers. This one is so cute with the best illustrations of any biscuit book we’ve read yet. Biscuit helps the little girl in her garden but his attempt to feed the birds goes a little overboard.
