When your mind is a prison, love can set you free.

Ever since her supervillain father experimented on her as a child, Mirabelle “Mirage” Wroth has been able to project unbreakable illusions into the minds of those around her. But when a run-in with an evil Mind Bender snaps a delicate thread in her psyche, she loses control of her gift and can no longer tell where reality ends and illusion begins. Only sanctimonious superhero Captain Justice is immune to her gift and can help her find the truth again—if Mirage can trust another man to define her reality.

Justice is sick of saving damsels in distress–he just wants someone to look beyond the cape to see him— but he can’t turn away from the hauntingly vulnerable Mirage. Suddenly Justice is helping her hide from the police, willing to be downright villainous to be her hero. But as they work to save Mirage from herself, other forces are circling to threaten them both. Tangled in illusions and mind games, can love be real?

Whoa!
I totally did not realize that the author published this book until I started to write this review. I'm floored. Floored!

Ok, I'm going to let you guys in on a secret.
I. Am. Batman.
Ok. Not really. I do have a superpower, though.
Totally true, ask my kids!
My special power is...Mother's GUILT. Don't laugh. It's some powerful mojo!

"What do you mean, you're too busy to take out the trash? Was I too busy to give birth to you?! Do you have any idea how painful labor was...especially considering you have your father's freakishly large head?!"

Sock! Pow!
"Was I too busy to stay up all night, rubbing your back and cleaning up your barf when you had the flu last winter?!"
Snikt! Snikt!
"What about the time you pooped your pants at school? Was I too busy to bring you a clean pair of shorts?"
Ka-Blaaam!

Fine, Mom. I'll take out the garbage. Jeez...

For those of you who don't know, I am a massive comic book fan. Huge!
And Super Bad is perfect for those of us who find Truth, Justice, and the American Way just as sexy as shirtless werewolves. That werewolf kid sure was sexy, though...
Excuse me for a minute.
Bow chicka bow wow

Ok. I'm back.
Even though this is a novella, it's one of those shorts that feels like a full size story. The plot is great, the characters are realistic, and the pace is dead-on. Honestly, people, what more do you want?

Mirage is an awesome character. Loved her! She's definitely an anti-hero, and she's pretty unapologetic about it. It's not that she's eeeevil, she just doesn't necessarily want to be...good.
On the flip side, you have Justice. He's your classic hero-type. He's good to a fault, and doesn't understand why someone else wouldn't want to spend their life as a do-gooder.
Of course, they're perfect for each other!
Besides, he's smokin' hot. That's a superpower no woman can resist!
You know, what? The blurb tells you enough about the story. I'm not going to taint it with my crappy run-down of what happens. Just know this, there's more to the story than the blurb let's on...and it's so good! If you've ever fantasized about Logan, Bruce, Peter, Clark, Hal, or Steve, then this book is for you!
And, yes. I purposely left Barry Allen off of that list. I mean, seriously, The Flash? Yeah, no thanks. Been there, done that...

This series is so cute and just plain fun to read. Love the super heroes with all their sexiness. Yes I have been reading them out of order and haven't been lost yet.

At first, when I skimmed through the first two books of this serie, I was certain this one would be my favorite. But even if I liked it very much and enjoyed the relationship between the main characters - who were hotter than Lucien and Darla by far, although I'm sure Mr Bad Boy and Miss SuperGood can rock a bedroom in their own way -, I prefered the first book.
It's not that I didn't like Mirage, but there were times where her actions or thoughts made me wonder why I liked her. She's not a bad girl, but she's not a good one either. And she's still very young, which explains a lot about her way of thinking, her reactions. That being said, she's sometimes selfish and shallow, even if deep down, she's better than that.
And apart from his all-righteousness, Julian was just adorable.

Title: Superbad
Series: Superlovin Book #2 (novella)
Author: Vivi Andrews
Genre: Romance, Sci-fi/Fantasy
Blurb: When your mind is a prison, love can set you free.
Justice is sick of saving damsels in distress–he just wants someone to look beyond the cape to see him—but he can’t turn away from the hauntingly vulnerable Mirage. Suddenly Justice is helping her hide from the police, willing to be downright villainous to be her hero. But as they work to save Mirage from herself, other forces are circling to threaten them both. Tangled in illusions and mind games, can love be real?
Thoughts: This book was so amazingly interesting. Not only is it a romance, but it is about superheroes and villains! I kept thinking of The Avengers and Megamind the whole time I was reading it...LOL It made for a definite change from the norm for me, when it comes to reading a romance novel.. The book was a novella, clocking in with only about 139 pages - but honestly, it feels like a full-length novel. It's a blast to read - yet not rushed or overly drawn out.
I was definitely intrigued about this alternate world where superheroes are "born" into the world. So much so, that I found myself searching out more about the series on the author's webpage. (There are two other books in the series, with a third on the way) I was a fan of Andrews already -I am a fan of here Serengeti Shifter series- but I hadn't really looked through much of her other works yet. So when offered the chance to review another book by this fabulous author, I jumped at the chance! And I'm glad I did!
Considering I missed the first novel in the series, I will let you know that that in no way detracted from the story whatsoever. Of course, you do have that "feeling" while reading that you might have missed a beginning book, but it doesn't take away from your enjoyment. I loved reading about the various powers of the characters, and I especially loved those of both Mirage and Justice. It seems even their powers are perfect for each other!
All in all, if you're looking for something a little unique and different - this is a perfect choice!
I will definitely be reading more!
Book One in the series is Super Lovin', Book Three is Super Hot (another novella), and Book Four - entitled Super Trouble is - has a release date that has yet to be determined. But I can't wait!

All right guys let's do this thing.

So Once Upon a Time Samhain Publishing released three novellas in the "Midnight Justice" series from three different authors. While I had my issues with the :ahem: cover art, by in large I enjoyed these superhero romances. There needs to be MORE superhero romances in my life. Vivi Andrews' story SUPERLOVIN'--about DynaGirl (Darla) and Demon Wroth (Lucien) and how they hooked up--was my favorite of the three. I appreciated that neither fit the mold of who they were portrayed as in the media and that they both did what they could to break out of that model. Also Lucien sounded HOT.

Meanwhile other characters were introduced--Captain Justin (aka Justin) and Mirage (aka Mirabelle, Lucien's sister)--who I wanted to know more about. And thus did Andrews answer those pleas.

Initially this is less about the romance and more about helping Mirage figure herself out. The guy who was controlling her did a real number on her mind and on good days she wants to be better (on bad days, which were more frequent, she didn't trust anyone, not even her brother). The opening scenes of Mirage desperately trying to not only piece together what was going on, but what was true were heart breaking. Like her brother she wasn't EVIL, but because of her talent and the bias people have she was labeled evil before she could defend herself.

Justice got himself dumped (he's meant to be a Superman type, complete with a reporter girlfriend) and I can't say I felt overly bad for him. He didn't even seem wrung out over it so much as hurt and shellshocked. Kim didn't help things by basically saying 'Yeah we had a thing, but really this was all about helping my career even if I didn't want to admit that to myself until just this moment'.

I found the interactions between Mirage and Justice to be interesting, but I wish there had been more about the mindbreak she went through. In a lot of ways I compared this to To the Fifth Power which also dealt with a heroine who had her mind screwed up. Andrews discusses things like Mirage why Mirage was ending up where she was ending up, but doesn't go too deep into them. In fact much of the plot turns out to be something of a red herring as the ending has very little to do with the beginning.

Overall though I loved Mirage so much that I kind of didn't care that her brain damage got a bit of a short shift. Her and Justice together were enough to make me pleased with how things turned out.

Review:

Let me tell you my inner geeky girl is so loving Super Heroes in romance books. Though that inner geeky girl was all at once happy and mad about this book. Happy because I loved the first book and mad because "How did I miss this coming out last year?" Then to find out there is a 3rd that was just released, geeky girl is in heaven and must go locate book #3 (Super Hot).

While I am rambling, this has nothing to do with the story, but I just love the chapter names Ms. Andrews uses in all her books. And I look forward to the beginning of each chapter just to see the title.

I feel so sorry for Mirabelle, getting her mind snapped and not knowing what is real and what is all just in her mind is well written and believable. I like that she is realistic and not "black and white" about things. Whereas Julian/Captain Justice thinks the later is the case. Captain Justice is talked into helping Mirage since he is not effected by her gift and they go about trying to figure out how to heal Mirabelle's mind. They both have trust issues with the opposite sex and with good reason, but you see them falling in love and that the stereotype of Hero and Villain is not so clear cut.

Vivi Andrews is one of my favorites and a must buy for me and this story did not disappoint. It really has a little of something for everyone; super heroes, villains, sexy love scenes, drama, action...So go forth a release your inner geek like me ;)

This is my first super-hero romance and it for sure will NOT be my last. I think the thing that most gripped me in this story was the voice of the author. She turned superheroes and supervillains into real people with issues. Well, not really real issues, more like super power issues!

I am coming into the series at book two, I will now be going back and reading book one, then grabbing book three!

Now, this book was REALLY good--however, something was holding back my mass elation. I can't put my finger on it, but I was gushing with oh my gods when I was finished reading this book--yet, I couldn't seem to put it down. I think the nerd in me was giddy and excited that someone actually wrote a super hero romance novel. The whole idea, the world, and the characters were rich and stood out in four dimensions.

I loved that Mirage sort of reminded me of invisigirl from The Incredibles. The skinny, lithe, goth girl. And Captain Justice was--well--he was Captain America drool worthy. He was very stand-offish and almost unsure of himself around Mirage and the vulnerability was awesome!

Yet, again, something held me back. It could be because I came in at the second book in the series and didn't have a full background to what went on with the characters BEFORE this story.

However, I WILL and do want to continue this series!

It was unique, it was original, and now I want to know the fate of all the awesome heroes and villains in the Superlovin' Series.

If you like Avengers. If you like X-Men. If you are at all a fan girl of any super hero genre and even a closet nerd you will LOVE this series!

I am a huge superhero fan. My all time favorite is Thor, but I wouldn't turn down any Avenger who might decide he wants to hang out in my bed. What can I say? I'm a hoochie for the right hero, so imagine how curious I got when I saw that the awesome Vivi Andrews had written a series around the Supers (both heroes and villains)? I HAD to try one out.

I opened Super Bad up on my iPad and was quickly sucked in! First, a villainess called Mirage, who can plant illusions in your head? How cool! Except that due to a recent bad experience, she's not all there. And a hero named Justice that could put Chris Evans' Captain America to shame? Hellz yeah!

The problem was that Mirage was stuck in her own head...and couldn't distinguish real from illusion. That's not good with powers like hers. She needed help and fast! In walks Justice...literally. The whole world knew he had physical strength. What they didn't know? He could literally compel truth! This meant that he could actually HELP Mirage because he'd be able to recognize when illusions started to take over.

The question is, why would a hero help a villain? Aren't they sworn enemies? And is Mirage really a villain or misunderstood? You know what they say about opposites attracting.

Personally I found this book to be so much fun that I couldn't put it down. In fact, I finished it in one sitting. I absolutely LOVED Mirage...and personally speaking, it didn't take me long to begin thinking of her as more of an anti-hero than a villain. It was awesome to see both sides learn that sometimes everything is not so black and white...and that it's in that gray area that things really start to get interesting!

Want a fun summer read? Don't miss out on this one!

Holy smokes. The beginning of this book sucked me in HARD. It's disjointed and chaotic and OMG! It fits perfectly with the disjointed reality that Mirage is experiencing as she struggles against the thought conditioning that her ex-boyfriend forced on her with his own superpower. It's seriously creepy as she (and we) attempt to unravel what's real and what's false.

*shivers*

When Justice and Mirage end up together as a last ditch effort to find the truth hidden under her conditioning, things get sexy. I *really* liked how the relationship developed between them. Justice is still smarting from his breakup with his ex and Mirage is leery of trusting anyone after what her ex did to her. It's tangled and explosive and I dug it!

There was a lot I enjoyed about this book. A LOT. From the sexiness of the superheroes (RAWR!) to Mirage's break from and return to reality to the way the line between villain and hero was blurred depending on who was looking at it. Mirage is very right when she says that those that have certain types of powers are automatically classified as villains even if they haven't DONE anything yet to warrant it.

Yeah. This book made me think. Plus? It was sexy. I LIKE THAT!

"Super Bad" is the first book I've read in the series "Superlovin'" and not the last. I was pleased to enjoy this book as much as I did. I didn't expect much at first but I really liked it. It was a short and nice story about super powers and what to do with them: being a vilain ? Or acting like a super for the good of the community ?

This is also a romance between two different people: Miranda Wroth also called Mirage, the daughter of a famous super-vilain who can project illusions inside people's mind. The thing is, Mirage can no longer tell exactly what is real and what isn't because of a past encounter.

And there is Justice who's supposed to be the perfect super, always acting for the good of everyone. He's tired that no one is trying to get to know him, the real him. The two of them should be on opposite sides especially when Mirage can't really control her gift anymore but their feelings for each other are growing.

The writing is well done, the book wasn't too slow and I wouldn't mind reading another book of the series :).

We don't have enough stories about superheroes and villains....at least in the romance genre...I really liked this one, while it is the second in a series I did not feel like I was missing out except for maybe a bit of backstory between Mirage's brother and DynaGirl...but not anything to take away from this story.

Mirage/Marabell is a mindbender whose mind is currently not quite broken but very fractured...she is unsure what is real or what her mind has created...Captain Justice/Julian is the only one who is not affected by her power and can see what is the truth or lies....and is the only one who can possibly help her find her way back to herself.

Can't wait for the next one in the series.

Very cute novella with superheroes and villains! Vivi Andrews is one of my favorite authors, but I hadn't read any of this series yet. I'm happy to report that you can easily read this novella as a stand alone without having read the first book in the series. Mirage was a fascinating and complex heroine and I love that Julian/ Captain Justice was so conflicted about using some of his powers. Definitely recommend this book as an introduction to the series!

I just love superhero romances. I love when they're serious, and I love when they have more tongue in cheek humor. This one falls more on the serious side, although there are a lot of nods to the general pop culture "idea" of what superheroes are like. There's also a good portion of sex, if you like sexy books. I was able to read this book without having read any of the others in Andrews' superhero world, so it does stand alone.

Super villain/ super hero lovin'

This was a cute little short romance. Loved the the squeaky clean super hero matched with the super villianess with with flexible morals. I like that his power of 'truth' is what brings her back from the brink of insanity and that she brings some shades of gray to his unsatisfying very 'white' world.
