I picked up this book because I loved the blurb. It sounded like exactly something I would read. I'm a huge fan of shifters, mates, and some supernatural intrigue!

The storyline was really good. It had a lot of twists and surprises along the way. There were a few elements that were told early on, and I just waited for them to come to fruition at some point in the book.

The characters were great. I actually liked that Anna Lissa spoke intermittent French throughout. It gave her a unique personality that really helped to build her character. Max was also an interesting character. The author kept throwing surprises about Max all through the story and I liked that he wasn't predictable.

The author also did a good job creating unique supporting characters. They all had strong personalities, but were all very different. I really enjoyed the way they resolved the conflict with the antagonist. When all the shocking truths came to light, there were hard decisions the main characters had to make.

(My only three issues with this book were (for me, not for most people) : 1. the POV is told completely from Max. I don't enjoy the guy' sPOV in most books. 2. I wish she translated a little more of the french Anna Lissa spoke. 3. The next book in the series is told from another male character's POV, and it's a new couple. I personally like the characters I grew to love continue the story on to the next book.)

I loved how the family issues resolve and the bonds that are created with the characters. Overall, this story gets four glittery stars for being a great read!

Great book for teens

—I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. The scenarios and characters are something new for me because I have never read anything like this before. The author describes a world so magical and characters so powerful that keep me reading on any chance or available time I can while I’m supposed to be working!! Definitely recommend this series, especially to a young people.

The story is about a guy leaving a simple life, Max Fergus. One day, he met a woman, Anna, who seemed to captivate him despite knowing her for only a day. It turned out that Max is not the person he thinks he is. The only way to get the answers to his questions lies with Anna and family secrets his mom and dad had kept from everyone.

When I read this book. I couldn't put it down. I love the characters. In fact, I picked this book because I love soul mate stories. The book surprised me because of the characters and their world. It is clever writing. The plots and twists are unpredictable and that's the kind of stories that entertained me the most.

Strengths:
Vivid Images - Elizabeth Lance wrote the story as if it's happening in front of me. I love the magical kingdom of the Fae, the possibilities in the Fae world, time controlling I wish I could have that, and the flashing.

Characterization - The characters are realistic and not forced, especially the relationship between Anna and Max. I also love their connection Tony is a great character as well. I love Max's crew who helped them fight the antagonist. Their varieties really helped the story. The characters are new to me. This is the first time I read characters about them. The world they're moving in to is so flexible. I say that because Anna and Max are different and similar from each other. I also love how the supporting character are not like fodders or feelers in the story. They have their own personality and uniqueness.

Family Issues - At first, I thought that the family won't play a role on the book, but I'm wrong. I love that the conflicts and misunderstandings in the past were resolved and how it somehow foreshadowed the next book.

Weakness:
Builds a little slow - The build up was a little slow for me but it made me like I can't wait for the climax of the story to happen.

Soul mates - I love soul mates and I've been studying them for years. I understand well the dynamics of a relationship like that. It's a little too perfect for me like they hardly had any conflict on the book, they got along the whole time.

Anna - I love her personality and how she's never out of character. I love her speaking French too, but her lines should have been translated.

With that in mind, I recommend you all to read this book. It will bring you to a different and you wouldn't want it to end. It also gives us some idea to the unending conflict between the Fae and the Unseelie. I just wish I got to read the first book.

The title attacted me to this book--I am a sucker for soulmates and fate. I found the book easy to read and was immediately drawn into the story. It was a change to read a book from the hero/male POV. Max was also an all-american boy quarterback who is dating the head cheerleader, Jenny. It was different to have a popular normal hero. So often the hero/heroine is odd, dark and mysterious but not Max. The shifters in this novel are born from a gift bestowed on them from the goddess Diana.
Max notices a dark haired beauty watching him and feels drawn to her. It begins to cause fights between him and Jenny as the green eyed monster takes over. When she shows up at school, Max is thrown for a loop and not only seems to forget about Jenny but can hear Anna in his mind. Max confronts his mother about his history and finds he is a shifter, a jaguar and Anna is most likely his soulmate. As long as Max shifts before his 18th birthday, he can become a felidae or feline shifters. There is a Lion shifter, Fredrick who want to marry Anna to get a spot on the ruling council. To marry Anna, Fredrick will kill anyone in his way i.e. Max.
Max takes to shifting quickly and begins to show even new abilities that expose his other birthright, a fae prince. Max is highly talented and begins to train in the fairie mound at Auberon's invitation.
I enjoyed to the building of this world and it's characters. It was a fun romance with mindtalk and soulmates--two things that although cheesy--I love. Max is awesome and grows into his own man with great powers that demand respect. Anna is sensitive and loving as a supportive mate to Max. Anna had the potential of being a real witch but I felt the author did a good job making her sensitive to Jenny. Tony is a great friend and side character who can see fae and becomes a great confidant to Max.
I would recommend this for those who loved Jessica's Guide to Dating On the Dark Side by Beth Fantasky and Prince of Wolves by Quinn Loftis. Both have the fated love and mind talk that is present here too. I hope there is a continuing story. There are so many possibilities as the Unseelie fae are after Max, His baby sister is set to be a fae heir and of course any children Max and Anna have.

Wow. What a great story in the paranormal realm. It has been a while since I have read a really good book that mixes all types of paranormal. Shifters and Fae oh my!
In this first book of the series Max has been feeling strange. Seeing a mysterious girl watching him from time to time really has him wondering who this beautiful girl is. His questions are answered when the girl turns out to be a new classmate named Anna. Anna is gorgeous and she seems to want to be near him.

When Max starts hearing Anna's voice in his head and dreaming of her, he knows she is different. When Max goes home to talk to his mother about his family and all the changes he is feeling her learns some family secrets. As more secrets are revealed and danger is on the horizon, Max steps up and try's to save his family and his Anna from harm. Can he save those he loves and stay alive?

Wow. I don't think I have enjoyed a paranormal book this much since The Sookie Stackhouse and Black Dagger books. Granted these are YA books so they are on the clean side as far as sex is concerned, but they are full of action and adventure. This book is a definite page turner. I did not want to put it down. It had so much danger and excitement.

The characters were great. You have the fae, shifters, dragons and lycans. The fae world was interesting and I loved how the story has the Gods and Goddesses mixed in as the creators of the shifters and fae. I also loved the romance story between Anna and Max. Soul mates destined to be together. It is a wonderful story to read. I really enjoyed watching them develop.

I can't wait to see what is in store for our friends next. I guarantee you will enjoy this book. So pick it up and enjoy.

Max is quarterback of his high school team, and is on the verge of turning 18. He has noticed a girl a couple of times watching him, but he doesn't think too much about it until she walks in to his homeroom one morning. Anna Lissa Felidae grabs his attention immediately. She asks him to help her find her next class & when he sees her schedule, they have every single class together. He thinks he's imagining things when he keeps hearing her voice in his head after he's had thoughts or questions concerning her until he finally realizes that she is hearing his thoughts & she's actually talking to him. He talks to his mom only to find out that he's part shifter to Anna's full blooded status. She takes him to train as a shifter with Gideon to help him win against a lion shifter who is out to kill him & take Anna Lissa as his mate. He knows there's something about Gideon & the way he smells that reminds him of his grandfather. Max gets another shock when he finds out that his great grandfather is Auberon, King of Light & king of the Seelie court. Max is a Fae prince. Max has until his 18th birthday to marry Anna Lissa & beat the lion. With the help of Auberon & some of his Fae guards, Gideon, 3 different shifters (a wolf, dragon & bear), & his best friend, Tony, he gets all the training & help he needs to beat the lion & come out the winner.

This was a sweet story with lots of twists & turns with the unexpected. There's always something happening with all the characters. You giggle at some of the antics that the Fae guards do, but it all fits together as part of the story. This is the first book I've read from this author & I wasn't disappointed.

Shifter novel with action and suspense and a side of humor

First of all, I didn't realize that it was for young adults maybe like highschool aged up to 20 years old. I picked this book out because I am always drawn to supernatural type novels. Either way it was an enjoyable read. I found certain parts really funny. The author has my kind of humor. The point of view is from a high school boy which is different for me. I usually read from a female point of view or the novel shifts perspectives between characters. I wasn't sure how I would feel reading from a boys point of view. It was a little strange for me at first but the longer I read the more I warmed up to it.

His "mate" seemed really sexy the way the author described her and I thought that French language added to that. The suspense was good even though you have an idea of what will happen. I kind of expected his experience with shifting to be more detailed or more of a struggle. I kept waiting for the main characters to "get together" but was kind of left hanging (I guess I am used to the erotic romances). Anyways...since the audience is for young adults I feel that the book was very appropriate for that age group.

I really liked how there was some mythology added to the story. I liked the different species of shifters and beings like elves. I felt like I was being connected to this alternate reality. The fighting scenes were very detailed and I thought the time travel aspect was an interesting addition to the story.

My favorite part of the story was actually the humor that was throughout the book. :-D

I’ve had this book on my kindle for a while but I kept hearing all kinds of wonderful things about this author and I had to find out for myself. With the wait over all I can say is “why did I wait so long to stalk her?” Her story pulled me in from the beginning so much I lost sleep but it was worth it.
When true love is meant to be, who dares to step in the way? Max is every school girl’s dream of being their boyfriend. He’s the president of the student council and a star athlete. But a jaguar was one of the things he never would have expected to be along with being a descendent of Fae. Anna has come to his school and he can’t stop thinking about her, wanting to be near her, and from being pulled all around her. A panther and his soul mate was not what he was expecting but so worth finding out. But there is danger in the works for both of them as Max discovers who he really is and others want him eliminated from this earth. Is Max strong enough mentally and physically to protect his family and friends that are near and dear to him? This was a great read for me and I know I can’t wait to read more of Ms. Lance’s work.

Pleasantly surprised

This was a book I got for free thru Amazon and I love the idea of mates, so this hit the spot, while it was a YA book I didn't feel how I normally do while reading them, this book has it all, a strong heroine and a Simi alpha hero, I can't want to see what else is in store for this group of characters.

This book captivated me from the onset; it was filled with action, drama, and had a little romance thrown in. It reminded me of Laurell K. Hamilton's books (and that's a great thing!) combining all of the preternatural and paranormal community. I love the diversity of the fantasy world that Elizabeth has created, and I definitely want to read more!

Hea y'all Anne here and I've just read Soul Mates: Scent by Elizabeth Lance and wow, wow, wow again. Elizabeth has wowed me yet again, having read her book Courting Danger: Agents for the Crown an adult romance period piece full of mystery I was excited to be able to read her first YA book Soul Mates. The cover of the book is gorgeous a photo by Rue Volley that represents the book and the beauty and mystery contained within. This book brings forth so many different and new paranormal creatures and mixes them beautifully with Greek Gods and myths that I personally love. I love the whole vibe of the book from the very first page the story opens with mystery and intrigue that only a outstandingly talented writer can produce. The characters are filled with spice and flare, they are beautiful and balanced and so so fun to read. From Shifters to Faeries and all that lies in between reading this book will transport you into a world full of love, passion, loyalty, and discovery. Everyone is born for a purpose no matter who your parents are, your fate is destined to be your own. In this book we join Max and Anna on their journey to not only adulthood but to their purpose in life. When goddess of multiple realms touch you you must listen and become who rests inside. Unleash the beautiful beasts that lie within you and fight for what is yours. This book is an exciting ride from cover to cover and I will tell you this on more than one occasion I told the author "wow I didn't see that coming" and I mean it, I thought I had it figured out then bang not only is there a twist but the story changes and adds more depth and complexity. No matter how many twists are thrown in the main focus of the story never changes but the list of requests for Max gets longer and longer. Like any good hero he takes his roll in life and runs at it full force to obtain what he wants most, his soul mate. Each character is given a important role right down to the cutsie little sister Abbey who's role will grow with time and pages, parents and grand parents are support roles but also the oh so important back story that gives the book depth and dimension. Soul Mates: Scent is like a diamond it's eye catching, multidimensional, and a treasure to be held an any paranormal readers heart. If I could give this book 10 stars it would have them but 5 out of 5 is the best I can credit plus this. If you love stories that captivate your mind and keep you guessing then you don't want to miss this book get your copy and enjoy it like I did and join me to beg the author for book 2 immediately. Loved Soul Mates: Scent by Elizabeth Lance....

Max Fergus has lived a privileged life. He’s the quarterback of his school’s football team, and is an exemplary student. He’s also the head cheerleader’s boyfriend. In his mind, his life is going just the way he wants it to, and there’s nothing else he could ask for. Until the moment Anna Lissa Felidae steps into his life.

Within the blink of an eye, she turns his life topsy-turvy. He’s not quite sure as to why he now finds himself drawn to her, but the thought of leaving her in someone else’s hands is something he can’t fathom. She’s all he can think about from the moment he sets his eyes on her, a fact Jennifer refuses to take lying down, so to speak. Max knows he’ll need to set things straight between Jennifer and himself if he’s to have some sort of future with Anna. Unfortunately, that task is much more difficult than it seems.

When it becomes apparent that Anna is more than what she seems, Max soon realizes that the world as he knew it is nothing but a lie. Secrets have been kept from him in hopes of shielding him from the dangers that are surely coming his way. While he understands that things were kept mum in order to protect him from the supernatural, part of him can’t help but to wish that he’d known about the extraordinary world he now finds himself in a long time ago. Still, his family had very good reasons for keeping him in the dark, and he’ll need to accept things as they are if he’s to succeed in fulfilling his destiny.

Danger lurks in the distance as Max comes to understand the fact that he’s now a Shifter, among other things. The fate of the supernatural world lies in his hands. The threat to his existence and that of the Shifter world draws ever closer. There are those intent on unseating the throne of power, once and for all. There’s a lot he’ll need to learn in such a short time if he’s to succeed in putting all wrongs to right. Unfortunately, time isn’t that forthcoming.

Elizabeth did a very nice job in putting together a very unique world surrounding both the supernatural, the lore behind some of the Olympian gods, as well as utilizing the history behind the Irish gods and goddesses. The amount of research put forth to craft such an intriguing universe is greatly apparent. The characters also lend their own voices to the story itself, and bring forth the vision the author wished to convey throughout every page.

This was honestly the start of a good series. The book does need a little tightening on the punctuation/grammar front, though. Aside from that, Soul Mates: Scent is a very engrossing story. One, I enjoyed very much while reading.

The Review
Wow, what an awesome book, I love shifters, what more can I say, I liked the plotline on this one, the various different entities were amazing to read about, non of them were your basic run of the mill ones either, take our hero in this story, Max, who is a shifter, but did not know it, who also has something a little extra to help him on his way, Don’t want to say too much, because of the spoilers, but he is a great character, The author really did him justice, Anna Lissa was a great character too, she knew what she wanted and took it, This was a wonderful coming of age book with many twists and turns to help them along the way, highly recommend it to all those after a great adventure, 4/5

Soul Mates by Elizabeth A. Lance

Review:
Wow, all the action really just starts at the beginning, though I usually hate slow beginnings, I felt this one just went a bit too fast to start, but that didn’t keep me from reading on, as I continued I realized that each chapter went at an easier pace to keep up with and had me locked into the pages. I fell in love with Max’s character, though he only knew Ana for a short amount of time, the way he wanted to protect her touched my heart, I could feel the love that each of them shared for the other rolling off each page. It was really quite touching. Also I liked how the author has included not just one only paranormal being but mixed it up. Now, about our lovely Ana, I have to admit there was something about her that I didn’t quite like at first but as I kept reading on she grew on me quite nicely, as did a lot of the other characters, there were parts where when they would interact that I couldn’t help but laugh.

This book keeps you locked into the pages, as love, a bit of humor, well to me at least because of certain parts that made me giggle ^_^ and of course danger mixed with suspense. It will all keep you reading until it all leads up to a finale. The ending though so sweet, left me wondering though most stories you can tell if there will be a possibility that the story can continue as a series right away, I was left a bit baffled because I couldn’t really tell if there would be a sequel or not, but I guess that is just the Author’s way of torturing us, leaving us to our imaginations. ;) I look forward to hearing about a sequel, or any other works that this author will come out with. I gave this book 4 out of 5 bats.

4.5 Drops

What happens when you mix a high school jock, a shifter, and a fae? Yep, you get Max! The story begins with a typical, if somewhat lucky, student whose amazing on the gridiron and gets great grades. Insert psycho-jealous pseudo-ex girlfriend, a beautiful new girl that gets in Max’s head (literally), a lion with an agenda, and the Lord of Light and Illusion, and a deadline.

I loved both the word building and the character development in this story. Max isn’t your flat, bully jock in so many stories and Anna isn’t your typical damsel in distress, not by any means. His life is pretty good, or so he believes, until a new girl steps into his homeroom class and everything he knows, changes.

Jaguar and Fae Prince? Oh, and Dianna (the goddess) has plans for him too. But only if he can survive the killer set on destroying Max and taking Anna for himself. With the help of a couple of fae warriors, a wolf, a dragon, and an interesting and amusing band they draw around themselves, the two set out to right the ills of the shifters and maybe even help with the fight between the light and dark fae… As long as they can get to class on time and make it back by curfew, that is.

I love paranormal romances, and Elizabeth A Lance has given us a spectacular story with Soul Mates: Scent. I’m new to this author, but am thrilled I decided to give her a try. This is a great read and one I hope you will give a try. It’s so different than other shifter stories I’ve read and can’t wait to read the rest of the series and more by the author.

This book was amazing! Elizabeth A. Lance sure knows what it takes to keep her readers inspired and on the edge of their seats! this book was filled with romance, intrigue and epic shifter and fea characters throughout!

I loved everything about this book! the characters were inspiring the storyline was amazing and the bad guy lurked in the shadows awaiting the chance to pounce at every opportunity. This story not only had one bad guys but two! how epic is that! poor Max though finding out about his family history was hard enough but now he has two enemies at his back because of it...lol

there were some awesome characters in this James really stood out to me and Tony of course both awesome characters! I really came to like The king of Light of the fea, they are usually depicted as such nasty creatures no matter light or dark but I like them more this way strong, proud, beautiful but with that hint of a devious nature beneath because they are always plotting something.

The immediate connection between Anna and Max was amazing! how they loved and how easily they fell for one another was magical. It was a little fast but meet your soul mate is like that swift, breathtaking and everlasting! I meet mine 18 years ago this June and it was the same we meet and were married in 3 months people said we were crazy and too young, but here we are 18 years and 4 children later and even more in love then we were then. It does happen so don't keep searching!

if you haven't read this incredible book make sure to get your copy today!

General: Soul Mates:Scent is a great first book in a series! I'm often picky about my YA series and I've never read a shifter one before, this one was definitely a perfect first read. From the start it was compelling and I really enjoyed that much of the book was focused on the male, as opposed to the female. I find that's not as common in YA romance and really enjoyed it. The characters were enjoyable, had a good chemistry and while they weren't over the top in your face like some romance leads, they had backgrounds that lent to caring about them. I also absolutely loved the use of mythology in this - every good shifter series has some sort of a background myth as to how/why they are and I enjoyed this one a lot.

The story itself was also a bit of original mixed with the traditional YA themes. The pacing was great and I think this is the start in a great YA series.

Characters: Max- Max threw me at first. I couldn't figure out why we had such an unlikeable "human" as a lead. As the book went he unveiled himself to be so much more than an obnoxious high school jock but he also wasn't the common YA template jock male either and I really appreciated that.

Anna- Anna was a great female lead. She was realistic in her actions - even being stronger than a human she still reacted and behaved in a manner that was befitting of her shifter side and being stuck in high school. She was by far easier to connect with at first but the story was a great connection between her and Max.

I have to admit I totally picked this book because of the title. As soon as I saw soul mates I was like baby come to mama and I am so glad I found this book.
It was an entertaining and exciting read with romance that made your toes curl. It was just Ahhhh totally made me drool. Max was just the best hero and I loved that the book was told from his point of view. There are enough guy's perspective books out there. I loved how fast he was able to mature and really be there for Anna. He became the perfect mate and he so made the list of my book boyfriends. He was fair and he really lived up to the expectations put on him while.
Anna was perfect and she totally brought out the best in Max. I loved how in this book she was the one looking fir her mate and not the other way around. I thought she was fair and she was a perfect match for Max. I loved how she handled situations and the sense of humor she had was subtle but great.
The romance was so sweet. Granted it was insta-lovish but it was expertly done and I loved it. They cared so much for each other and their love matured both of them so much.
Basically if you love a good romance don't miss this book.

I absolutely adored this book! Check out my full review here
I am so thankful to Elizabeth for allowing me to review it. Thank You YOU ROCK!!!

Wow what an awesome and unique read, a wonderful multi-layered story of self-discovery, coming of age, and young love with perfectly placed twists and turns. Come on and meet Max, Anna, and Tony

Max ~ An amorous, witty and true to heart character who is destined to be powerful, he just doesn’t know it yet.

Anna ~ OMy what a sexy, drop dead gorgeous and playful character you are surely to fall in love with.

Tony ~ Max’s best friend and team mate who backs Max up through it all, good or bad! Dude you will love this loyal, down to earth character.

I really enjoyed this book, with a sense of humor, modern day references, and playful banter between Max and Anna. Once I had the chance to actually sit down and read it, I couldn’t put it down, the suspense, action, and mystery kept me flipping through the pages! I LOVED IT!

I would recommend this book to all readers YA and up, I am so waiting for installment two to hit the scene.

Recently, I read Soul Mates: Scent. The story had me hooked from the beginning and throughout the book I found myself constantly wanting to know what was going to happen next. The plot wasn't "cookie cutter" and was unique in nature, holding my interest. You'll find yourself sympathizing with Max, the main character, and the choices he makes as well as the situations he endures. The supporting characters are believable within both their emotions and their actions. I won't go into detail about the plot because I don't want to ruin the story for other readers along their journey. I give this review five stars and I'm excited to read the next installment in the series. A job well done, Ms. Lance! :)

Max is a senior in high school and just broke up with his girlfriend of three years. Another girl has been stalking him. Finally, she shows up at the high school as a new student. Her name is Anna and she says he is her mate. Weird things start occurring for Max. He discovers he is a shifter, human and Fae. Anna’s and his destinies are to unite and rule the shifters. His family comes from both worlds and now he will be in a battle for his life. Another wants to own Anna and take a position on the council. They will have Fae and shifters helping them in the battle. His best friend Tony is not normal either! This is a great YA read and contains lots of action and romance. 10*s. I recieved an eARC copy of this book directly from the author in return for an honest review.
This was a fabulously fun, for me, and breathtakingly entertaining. I was hooked from the first sentence and I enjoyed every bit of romance, surprises, and action in this story that I read the whole thing in one night. It's an awesome new twist on shapeshifters and it is extremely captivating. This is a MUST read for Teen/YA but adults will love it too of any genre!! Thank you, Elizabeth for the opportunity to read and review of this wonderous book!!

With the genre becoming increasingly saturated with lack lustre books I find myself increasingly picky. Attracted to this one some strong reviews I was pleased I took a chance on it. I like the idea of fate and how it impacts our lives so the theme was really appealing alongside the supernatural aspects of the storyline. The characters were really good and there was a nice balance between good and evil which is always nice. Overall I really enjoyed it and will definitely read more from this author.

I loved this book. It was unique and I hope there are future books telling the stories of the other characters. The book was well written and the story and characters were well developed. I loved the characters individual personalities and their relationships and dynamics with each other. The story was excellent. It was clean yet had lots of chemistry between the main characters. It was also action packed and had romance, emotion, intrigue and suspense. I’d highly recommend this book!!

Interesting character traits makes this story enjoyable. Max and Anna are shifters who are soul mates but must fight for their love. They are joined by others like themselves as well as fairies to fight enemies from both races.
The story has good bones but I feel that the writing is rather uninspired. The expression of feelings between Max and Anna gets a bit repetitive. Also the dialogue seemed a tad choppy to me.
Overall, a good read

This is the first book in the Soul Mates series and my first YA shifter read. Anna has been searching for her soul mate for a while and just when she thinks she'll never find him she meets Max. One problem he didn't know he was a pureblood shifter so Anna has some convincing to do. This is an entertaining YA shifter romance with great characters, drama, action and a story that flowed smoothly. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
