You're in a used bookstore when you find a filthy old notebook. You smell the mildew and feel the aged mushiness of the remaining pages, about to disintegrate in your fingertips, and stained with mud, coffee, tears, who knows what else. Further inspection reveals that it's a diary. Do you read it? Who wouldn't? Then you notice that it has passed through several hands since ...more

There are books that come to you by chance and when you read the back cover you hope the book can meet the high expectations you set for it. In the Fool's Footprints did not disappoint. It was an extremely engaging and well weaved story of the travel of a journal through many years
and many hands. It illustrates how our lives feed into others and how the power of the written word can become a mystery in and of itself! I really enjoyed this novel and rate it 4 stars!

"In the Fool's Footsteps", a new indie book that I just read, is definitely hard to put down. Karen Hoffman's complex structure of books within a book and a-million-characters set up is an innovative collection of writings. The story begins as main character feels compelled to read a diary of many peoples' lives. The main character's determination to find out where this diary came from, her struggle to decide whether she wants to write in it also, and her attempt to juggle her personal life too ...more

In the Fool's Footsteps follows Kal Winters, a grad student who stumbles upon a diary that has traveled from hand to hand throughout the decades, and his quest to trace it back to the original owner.

Firstly, before writing my review, I would like to apologize to the author for taking so dern long to read the book, especially after she was gracious enough to send me a free copy. I'm such a procrastinator.

Now we can get to the book. In the Fool's Footsteps was a so-so for me. There were things I

I love the concept here, & the shift of voices is wonderful. Because the voices shift so much, I did get lost sometimes as to what was happening...more than once I had to go back & reread the few pages before the place I was in a second time. Overall, a really good read - would definitely work better in a long setting than in short segments, because of the sometimes abrupt changes in narrative voices. I had expected it (from the title) to be about tarot - while that was not the case, the format ...more
