SUMMARY (60 words or less)

Okay, I didn’t like Kara all the much after I found out she wasn’t single. But that doesn’t stop me from enjoying a story. Her choices seemed to be all wrong and the conclusions she made didn’t sit well with me. But I found the mon

How are the sex scenes?

Passionate and fast paced, with a little slow and seductive thrown in on occasion. It was almost cringe worthy to read “Every time I’m inside of you it’s getting harder and harder to control myself." The shower scene however – hot!

How are the story lines?

They tackle the sad circumstance of a disintegrating marriage, the consequences of a passionate fling and the sordid city council de

I know not many people are fans of them, but I enjoy novels centered around cheating – if the plot is well written and thought out and the character(s) isn’t cheating with everyone in sight “just because”.
Diary of a One-Night Stand tells the story of a woman who I think many could relate to. She’s married to a man who works too much, spends too little time with their daughter and who she no longer finds attractive – in any way.

A few weeks back, I was after more adult contemporary books to review and luckily for me, Alexandrea Weis offered me her book, Diary of a One Night Stand – so a big thank you to Alexandrea.

I enjoyed this story, it was just what I was looking for at the time and the author did a good job captivating me from the start. I enjoyed how the story started, it doesn’t start like any other book – it starts by the main character having a one night stand with a guy she’s attracted too and then, the story

I was given this book to review and upon first glance I thought "Yeah, this sounds good." Good doesn't even begin to describe what I thought of it. Alexandrea Weis wrote characters that are experiencing longing, need, sadness, guilt, desire, lust...things we all experience at some point or another. Diary of a One Night Stand deals with real life, period.

I think that, becuase of the title, I expected a book full of sex and not much else. Yes, there was sex involved but the story line went much de

A Romance masquerading as a Chick Lit, it even has a HEA!

Kara Barton is an attractive, intelligent forty-something lawyer who has been married for 12 years and has a spirited and precocious ten year old daughter. She also has a very unhappy marriage with her husband, Cal. Feeling as if her youth is slipping away and that she is no longer sexually attractive, Kara succumbs to the flirtations of a handsome older man who invites her to join him in a night of unbridled passion. With the promise that

It’s refreshing that the heroine of Diary of a One Night Stand is not the usual twenty-something; Kara Barton is over forty, with a daughter of ten, which adds some much needed variation to the normal roster of romantic leads. The same cannot quite be said of the ‘One Night Stand’ of the title, Scott Ellsworth. Scott is very much the mould of the good old-fashioned dominant businessman dreamboat, so your enjoyment of the book will probably depend on how much you like that kind of character. Conf ...more

I received this book From Alexandrea as a gift and I must say it was very intriguing and engaging as well. When you are a 40 something year old woman in a marriage you feel is failing you just need to be reassured you are still attractive. When Kara meets Scott for a what is thought of to be a one night stand her dream comes true, only Scott wants more and so does she. Her husband Cal becomes angry and violent so Scott takes Kara and her daughter in to protect them. i don't condone cheating but ...more

Alexandrea Weis' Diary of a One Night Stand could easily be placed in both the romance and chick lit genres. Kara, the main character, is a forty something year old wife and mother with a great law career. On the outside looking in, it appears that Kara has the perfect life. However, after her husband, Cal, has emergency heart surgery, Kara begins to feel a detachment in her marriage. After months of unhappiness, bickering, and going through the motions in order to keep the status quo, Kara meet ...more

I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion..

I expected Diary of a One Night Stand to be a little different than what it was.. i expected a diary somewhere in the story be it a actual diary or perhaps a chapter written in diary form.. Also the one night stand was not a one night stand it was a full blown relationship.. granted it was supposed to be a one night stand that just wasnt but still my slightly off balance mind has issues.. Okay now that ive said my peace rega

In Diary of a One Night Stand, Weis employs one of my least favorite romantic tropes: cheating spouse. As I began the book, I thought it was somewhat refreshing that the heroine was a woman of a "certain age" and that she was taking her happiness into her own hands. Then, turn the page, not only does she have a daughter, but also a husband, with whom she climbs into bed when she gets home. At that point, she instantly became less attractive as a heroine, in my eyes.

I've had a really hard time pinning down my feelings for Diary of a One Night Stand. On one hand, I can appreciate the story for what it is: a compelling look at one woman's journey through the breakdown of her marriage. On the other, the story at times felt like it was glorifying infidelity.

I think one of the reasons I struggled with Diary is because the story begins with the one night stand. Not the build-up of the relationship. Not the years of marital strife. This made it hard for me to ev

If you read this book there is a good chance that you wished you may meet some of the characters in real life.

The title of this book gives little away. A one night stand, you may think, what’s the big deal? Well, it is a big deal, it is a huge deal: a life changing event.

The characters in this book are complex and interesting. Trying to understand them and their decisions kept me reading. Often you can’t make up your mind about whether you like or dislike them. Certainly not at the beginning. I

I really enjoyed reading Diary of a One Night Stand by the wonderful Alexandrea Weis, although I have to say it was not entirely what I thought it would be. I thought the premise of the book would be a woman who was fed up with her life and decided to have a slew of one night stands, because let's face it, when we think of a one night stand, that is pretty much status quo. Ms. Weis went far beyond that simple premise and wove a story that brought you into Kara Barton's world: thriving attorney, ...more
Whilst I wouldn't say I loved Diary of one-night stand I did find it to be an enjoyable quick read and I really liked the message it ended with. This is an adult read so there are some steamy scenes throughout the book, there's nothing 'hardcore' though so I think anyone that likes a little bit extra to their novels will enjoy it.
I found it easy to get through and enjoyed the story, Kara was an interesting character but there were so many times I wished she'd stand up for herself more, never the

Diary of a One Night Stand is a shockingly honest account of the journey through marital infidelity, starting with a steamy sex scene and immediately followed by the guilt and shame of the aftermath. The character, Kara Barton, is well-fleshed out with appropriate conflicting emotions, competing loyalties and ends up learning some painful truths about herself in the process of her indiscretion.

Kara is tired of struggling to keep her disappointing, loveless marriage together. She meets Scott, a g

In this novel we visit the more romantic side of Alexandrea Weis. Have you ever kept a secret of a secret act? How well could you keep the secret?
Kara visits the St. Charles hotel for a meeting. This meeting is with Scott Ellsworth a notorious womanizer. A meeting that she might regret later, or will she? Kara wants to feel young and in control. She is a wife to Cal Barton and the mother of Simone. Her relationship with her husband is not a good one. Scott persues her at every day at he

When I looked at the title and cover of this book, I thought that it would be just as the title suggests. But as I started to read the first couple of chapters, I quickly realized it was so much more.
Kara is an unhappily married woman who finds herself an opportunity to feel sexy and loved and wanted again. She gets more than she bargains for and it's one hell of a ride.
Diary of A One Night Stand is definitely not one of my normal reads and I'm glad that I was given the opportunity to give it

I enjoyed this book but I thought the cover page and the title didn't suit the book. But I really enjoyed it. I wish the author had been a bit more ballsy in the end because I always feel that making a choice and having to leave with the consequences is part of the angst of reading these books. I hate it when authors make the choices the characters have to make easier on them. That final choice should be a stinger. It should hurt. I suppose the author doesn't want us to hate the character.

I am not a romantic novel reader, but this story wasn't bad to read while passing a lazy summer afternoon. It's the sort of story where every plot turn fits a little too well, and the characters are a bit too sure of themselves. But once you relax your brain, you may enjoy the vivid story of life in upper class New Orleans, and the political atmosphere of the city.

I want to say the ending came as a nice surprise. Predicable, because you are lead there. But nonetheless satisfying.

I didn't love this because of the infidelity, but at least the main characters became mostly better people by the end of the story. It was a bit far-fetched and Kara was a pretty weak main character. That being said, I enjoyed the story but was glad that I was not any of the characters...
