Lorne Simpkins #4

Foul Justice

Rate this book
Detective Inspector Lorne Simpkins is back on the force. Before she can get comfortable with her new partner, newly-promoted DS Katy Foster, the two are assigned a tragic murder case that looks like a robbery gone wrong. However, when another wealthy footballer's family meets the same deadly fate within twenty-four hours, it is clear the crimes involve something far more sinister.

Keeping her focus on unravelling the complex case isn't easy for Lorne when she learns news that throws her personal life into a spin—her fiancé, M16 agent Tony Warner, is involved in a dangerous covert operation in Afghanistan.
But innocent people are dying on her patch, and someone must catch the killers. Lorne can't allow this Foul Justice to prevail.

This could have been excellent but it just felt shallow to me. I didn't feel these characters were developed at all.

I like a good police crime novel but I honestly wouldn't want these policewomen handling a case of mine! Very stereotypical women, sigh.

And a MI6 officer being sent to Afghanistan on a secret mission as an Afghan local when he doesn't even speak the local language!! WTF.

Great comedy but as a thriller I felt it lacked several elements.

Two stars.

At the time of posting this series is available on Kindle Unlimited.

I could not put this book down.

This book is beautifully written and kept my interest throughout. I wanted to know what was going on with the case Lorne was working on, and wanted to know more about the new characters. I feel that Mel Comley balanced this perfectly.

I have to admit, at first I was a little apprehensive, due to my love for Lorne's last partner.. but her new partner is just as awesome! I feel that she compliments Lorne's personality well.

Foul Justice kept me kept me guessing throughout. There were parts where I laughed, and even cried! The ending was absolutely superb and a truly fitting end for our lovable detective!

It deeply saddens me that this book is the last in a series that has affected my so deeply; I truly feel as if I know the characters and am sad to say goodbye to them. I wish Mel the best in all her future endeavors and will always be silently wishing to see Lorne and the gang again!

The 4th book in the series sees Lorne rejoining the Met and investigating a series of brutal robberies/murders. Not only has she got a new job and a serious case to deal with, she's also worrying about her fiance, Tony, who's sent on a secret MI6 mission, 2 weeks before their wedding.

The plot and writing will draw you in instantly, and I think this is probably my favourite of the Justice series. I hope she'll be making a come back in the future! If you're looking for a fab fast-paced thriller, look no further.

Lorne Simpkins is one of my favorite book characters and Comley has fast become one of my favorite authors. This fourth book is as good as the others and has all the elements the I have come to love from Comley's books. She takes a horrific police case as the front story and blends Lorne's personal life along with her friendship with her coworkers to make such an intriguiging storyline that has so many layers to it that it keeps you from putting that book down to get some sleep. This book starts off with a bang with a disturbing crime, and Lorne does her thing to help solve this twisted mystery like no one else on the force is able to do. This time she has a new partner, Kate Foster, someone I am anxious to see more of in the next book. The two personlities play very well off of each other and Foster is a great addition to the series. As always, this Justice book is a can't miss, fast-paced thriller that is a fantastic read.

This is the fourth book in the Justice series and it is a brilliant addition to the series!

This is a really challenging story for Lorne both at work and in her home life and it made me feel really emotional at times. I was completely engrossed in the story and it had me fully engaged right from the start through to the brilliant ending. Having a young daughter I am getting quite picky now with what I read as my time is limited but I will always make time for this series!

Lorne is definitely one of my favourite leads in a series, she is really genuine, likeable and the author has done an excellent job with the characterisation of not only Lorne, but also her supporting cast of family and friends and that makes them exceptional reads for me.

Five stars from me for this one – already reading the next book!! Very highly recommended!!

Did I read the wrong book?

After seeing how well thought of this book is, I decided to give it a whirl. What is going on folks? This book lacks depth and is full of illogical premises. Would a senior detective really describe her current investigation as burglaries when three children were murdered during the two house invasions? Would these crimes go unreported by the media when they occurred in wealthy Chelsea and the homes invaded belonged to soccer stars? Did no one notice the police cars, ambulances, crime scene trucks etc?

I kept returning to the start to reassure myself that this book had not been written for ten to twelve-year-olds. Readers, do yourself a favour and give this author a miss. Go buy a Robert Crais, a Michael Connolly, a Ian Rankin or an A.J. Davidson.

Foul justice is the 4th (and latest) book by Mel Comley in the Lorne Simpkins series and what a story line! Things seem to go from bad to worse for Lorne, my heart was breaking for her. Aside from that, this was a fast paced adrenaline filled ride which has left me wanting more from Mel and from Lorne.
I really hope we get to see more from Lorne and that it is not over yet!

Sometimes down, but never out

Lorne has agreed to remain the MET, after a lomg discussion with Tony, her MI6 agent fiance. Tony has applied to transfer to MI5, so no more foreign assignments. His transfer should be through any day.
Their wedding is due to take place in a couple of weeks, and Lorne's only concern is if she can get Charlie to wear a dress for the wedding, Charlie is set on a trouser suit.
But this is Lorne's life ......
Arriving at the station after a two year absence, she is introduced to her new partner, a DS recently transferred from Manchester, sullen in manner and abrupt in speech, it looks like Lorne will have her hands full. I'm addition to this her family knows the superintendent, who has been Lorne's nemesis for forever.
On returning home from her first day back in her role of DI Simpkins, Tony has some shocking news for her. A fellow agent has been killed by the Taliban in Afghanistan, and he is being sent there to replace him. Both of them are upset by this development, she is terrified that he will be killed and Tony is worried how she will cope.
Her new case involved the home invasion of a premiership football's luxury home, resulting in the death of two young children and critical injuries to the player's wife.
No fingerprints, no DNA, someone knows what they are doing.
The next night a duplicate burglary, another footballer arrived home to find his child deceased and his wife badly beaten - again no forensics.
Their security system failed in both cases, both couples used the same interior designer and security company - is this a coincidence? Neither Lorne or her partner, Katy believe in coincidence.
The book continues at a rapid pace, with both women dealing with personal issues and as they lower their guard find empathy and support from each other. No guessing the ending, an unexpected twist which fits beautifully and the various threads come together to form a refreshing yarn.

I wanted to finish this as I hate leaving books half way through, there’s always the thought that it might get better. Unfortunately, this wasn’t one that did. It was barely believable in places. The writing isn’t great, the characters are shallow and unlikeable and although they’re police/crime books, there’s parts that are too saccharin and far fetched. Her teenage, wayward daughter is kidnapped, raped and has a suicide vest strapped on (in an earlier book) and after a bit of therapy she’s turned in to the perfect daughter, her fiancé goes to Afghanistan, is captured, saved (after having a leg removed with a machete), and he’s home in 10 days, walking down the aisle to get married? She has doubts about her new partner and it’s all resolved in a couple of pages and they’re house sharing - it’s just too good to be true, unlike the books.

a very emotional roller coaster in which you see Lorne in her prime and dealing with both personal and professional upheavals.

truly this is a remarkable book showing the best and the worst. the references back to previous characters makes it imperative that you read these books in order.

I like Katy as m the new detective who seems to have a chip on her shoulder bit she is hiding a horrid life that hopefully Lorne can help mend.

also you meet the new medical examiner who doesn't play a huge role but younger a wonderful friendship that begins to blossom between her and Lorne. she is nothing like arnaud who seemed to work his way into her life.

This book was amazing and really goes to show you how versatile the author is.

This series seriously rocks!

I am really loving this series about DI Lorne.and her team and family. This book is fast paced, full of twists and turns. The plot was original and held my interest, and the subplots were great as well. The writing of all they're going through is engaging,, and you could feel the emotions throughout the book. This could be read as a stand alone, but I really recommend you start from the first book in the series to understand what makes all of the characters tick!

Foul Justice is a solved mystery

I felt bad for children and with the jealousy poison people may have of others. This book kept my going in different direction on who is mockingbird whom. New people in the work place can help with personal comfort. Mostly happy for DI Simpkins finding happiness in the end.

Full Justice ( 4 )

This was a good murder mystery that keeps your interest and doesn't let up from start to finish. The only problem is the use of slang that comes from England, at times I had no idea what was being said.

The Unfortunate Families

Thought the book was good, was filled with sadness when kids were murdered by robbers and their mothers hurt and emotionally destroyed.
Loren's fiance Tony lost a leg which saddened the wedding preparations but they got married anyway.
